Not ideal for it to be against a righty throwing 100, but NY knows better than me.

McCutchen LF (first start there ever)
    Judge RF
    Gregorius SS
    Stanton DH
    Hicks CF
    Andujar 3B
    Sanchez C
    Walker 1B
    Torres 2B

Gardner sitting against the righty does not bode well for his playing time the rest of the season.

Happ vs. Eovaldi, 7 PM assuming the weather clears up by then.

Also, this is Justus Sheffield's first game with the team, not that I expect him to pitch much but nice to get a few weeks in the Bronx at least.

What if he does pitch and looks good? Is he ineligible for postseason no matter what?

No, anyone in the organization as of the end of August is eligible.

Thanks. With the bullpen's unsettled condition of late, seems like anyone has a chance, especially a lefty like Justus.

Exit velocity 112 on that line out by Judge.

The Rays are going to sign Eovaldi next February for next to nothing, and he is going to beat NY 4 times next year before they trade him at the deadline again.

Sanchez never got the glove anywhere near that pitch....

Good example there of why the Yankees' defense will be so costly in the playoffs.

If anything Sanchez seems to be regressing as a catcher...

Happ is probably the easiest Yankee starter to catch. Lots of high fastballs. Rarely bounces a pitch. Gary did not flip his glove over to catch that cutter, which did break a lot, but as a catcher you have to execute the fundamentals.
Gary has 14 PBs in 65 games caught this season, which still leads the league by one over Maldonaldo (104 games). His career high is 16 in 104 games. So yes, he is getting worse. And his caught stealing rate is .273.
Romine has 5 PBs in 65 games.

If he was hitting like he did the previous two seasons, it would matter a lot less.

The offense is a big problem right now but I have a feeling that once Judge starts hitting, his teammates will loosen up.

Gleyber really needs to stop hitting 9th, he is only there because of his age and it is silly.

And Stanton fouls off a hanging slider on his way to striking out.

It has been so long since the Yankees played good baseball, they have forgotten how you win. Red Sox are just the opposite.

Hicks steals second. That's a winning type of play. Sanchez took a strike because he saw Hicks had the base stolen. Can he deliver?

Workman walks Sanchez. Two on, one out. Cora going to Brasier for Walker.

JD fooled Hicks by taking third on a routine double. One out in 8th.

Nunez flies into the LF corner for third out. Cutch almost overran it. First major league start in LF, as Abbey already noted.

You sure called the defensive issues early in the game, nice scoop by Walker at the end there to finally put us all out of our misery.

Have to give credit to Boone for starting Walker today ahead of the more obvious choice in Voit, and keeping him in the whole way, not just for the game-winning HR but for that scoop at the end.

8 games up on TB with 12 to play (4 head to head) to clinch a playoff spot.

Bird probably doesn't make the payoff roster. It's really not even a close call.

I said this exact thing after the first time Eovaldi shut down NY but if I were Cora, I would start him in game 2 if NY survives the coin flip game, just as a specific matchup thing, he has absolutely dominated them twice now. I know Price has been awesome the last few months, but way too much bad matchup history there for my taste. He will get another chance tomorrow, this time against the full lineup (last time no Judge/Sanchez, who have both crushed him).

Hell, defense has been a problem all season. They have two regulars who are defensive nightmares. Only one of them can DH. None if you want to play your best offensive lineup. What we saw tonight was worse than normal but the real truth of this team is it has to score runs off playoff pitching to compete. Two weeks to get the offense back on track.

Price is coming along at a good time.

Not sure Cora would want to put his neck on the line with Eovaldi. He will dance with who brung him, as Darrell Royal once said.

It would be interesting to see what happens if Price gets slaughtered against NY again tomorrow.
Would Cora dare to keep him out of the ALDS?
