if a ball hits the very top lip of a vertical service it can certainly pop straight up like it did. Not sure what everyone is seeing in the replay. It hit the red line which goes to the very top of the wall..no replay showed the ball going past the red line and onto the horizontal area.
Four innings for the pen. Buckle up, friends!
Is Poyner PS eligible?
Yeah, I mean I’m no physicist but I can’t imagine any way a ball can bounce straight up if it didn’t touch at least some part of the face of the wall, which is not an HR unless it then bounds over, which it clearly did not.
Seems like an obvious call to me.
Poyner says "I got this shit"
Then this is a case of bad laws making hard cases. If the red line literally goes right to the corner where horizontal and vertical surfaces meet, then that's essentially the same as not having a line -- because a line can only effectively demarcate a border between areas in a single plane. I was assuming that the line was entirely contained within the vertical surface -- so that the lip itself was above the line. If that's not the case, then we're just talking about dumbass design.
Was wondering the same thing. He pitched with the big club early in the season but was in the minors (iirc) for a few months prior to September 1.
Starting to worry about Benny
Benny should not be allowed to do that the way he is going at present
McNeil is killing me
I’ve had that very thought. The line is just not necessary. I think it was put there to help umpires visually distinguish the wall from the shelf, but replay makes that not necessary anymore. But it does go to the very edge up there.
Frazier begging for a walk.
Come on Wright no walks
Same in NY. Tying run at the plate.
Here is a thought. If facing knckle baller screws up the timing of the opposing hitters, shouldn't we be using Wright as the opener in every game?
Not without Goose Gossage.
I was wrong about Wright
Wright is not the answer to ulcer prevention.
Failure in auditions continue.
On second thought no, although they might bat around which could be end up screwing up the whole lineup.
I don't think Wright is the solution.
Can’t get strike three today.
Cutch strikes out with the bases loaded. 5-1.
Anyone else still want Wright in the pen????
I don’t think they’ll be coming back for the playoffs.
Sit down chump
they can stuff Wright
If the knuckler is fouled off that often, it is a good indicator it isn’t really dancing. Yet.
First pitch to Plawecki had a sick break.
Ok, I'm going back to just listening and working in the greenhouse That is less nervous making.
I don't know if he actually made contact.
Wright’s been pretty good this year so i’m reluctant to write (hah) him off entirely. But this outing is certainly not helping his case.
That is so cool. Slomo on the knuckler, it’s rotating nada until the foul tip and then you see the ball’s orientation change.
Where's Mirabelli when you need him
VAz you have to block that.
Really? A one handed backhand?
I saw a reliever with wooden legs and real feet
what a game
A bit of a high wire act by Wright, but once again he comes through.
Wright giving a clinic on why knucklers are risky as late-inning relievers.
