Ha, we don't have enough excited yankee fans to keep two threads active right now. I'm fine with this one!

Coup makes bad medicine. I am hovering on Crow's thread tonight.

Jake needs 23 pitches in a 1-2-3 inning. He's not fooling anyone.

Edit: wrong thread! I blame Coup.

More like Severin0 than Severin-oh-no that inning. Nice inning.

Stanton needs to start hitting homers soon.

Second inning, Andujar fields a foul grounder behind third, throws it 20 feet over first baseman's head.
Seve with a quick 1-2-3 inning.

Didn't even realize that, he is at 88 pitches through 5.

Seve is dealing through five innings. Around 63 pitches. Almost pitching to contact tonight.

    Edit: 57 pitches thru 5. No walks. 4 K's.

Torres hits one 410 to center. Easy out.

They are hitting some rockets off Odorizzi but nothing is falling.

Hopefully getting no-hit by the fucking Twins is rock bottom for this offense. Crazy to watch so many people suck at once.

Hicks hits one to warning track for third out. Pretty sure Sterling went into two home run calls that inning.

No hits thru six. These guys have no chance of holding off Oakland. Unless Tampa humbles the A's this weekend.

It's gotta be game prep right? Someone is feeding the entire team some scouting reports ahead of the game that don't seem to be working out too well.

Yeah, got to be something. Even if everyone was pressing, someone would get a hit.

Did Sev just refuse to give the ball up?

No, he tried to talk Boone out of it, he is only at 83 pitches, but he gave it up after that.

I saw him give it up, but looked like he shook him off twice before relenting. Seemed like an early hook, I could see his frustration

Yeah, they showed a replay of the whole interaction after commercial, looked pretty normal. You wouldn't want your (alleged) ace to want to leave there.

Girardi on MLB N says it looks like Odorizzi is wearing a wedding band. Says he would send a message to the other manager tontake it off and avoid controversy. Pedro applauds him. Can we get Pedro and Girardi every day?

It sucks to be on the losing end of a no-hitter. At this point, I would just root for a hit, not a win.

120 pitches with 5 outs left. He's getting Dusty Baker'd.

    edit: and that'll do it.

It sure would be nice if that Judge guy came back this weekend, thanks in advance for that. Chapman is also supposedly about to rejoin the team and is about a week away, so maybe they can at least be at full strength when they lose in Oakland.

If they somehow don't lose though, then it is all a bonus like last year and the pressure will all be on the #1 seed with the best record in baseball and the best pitcher in the league scheduled twice in the 5 games. You know, like CLE/Kluber last year. :)

Orioles manage to beat the A’s so that helps a bit.

Late to the party on this but you really think that a factor in the ALDS will be that the Sox will feel the pressure of the top seed (or the team with the best record in all of baseball)? No offense, but I think that's ludicrous. If the Sox lose, there could be many explanations. The most likely being that the pen betrayed them. Or that they ran into great starting pitching performances by the A's or Yankees. Or that Price again sucks ass in October (which I don't expect but would not shock anyone). Or a lot of other normal baseball things. But I don't see this team wilting under the pressure of a top seed or what underlies that comment. That seems like wishcasting to me.

That whole post was wishcasting, but of course the pressure is always more on the favorites. Did that have anything to do with why NY beat CLE last year? Dunno, although CLE had/has the added pressure of not having won in generations.

It’s not actually knowable, but I think the Yankees won for on the field reasons. I don’t think the pressure of being the favorite mattered.

When the 1998 Yankees were honored earlier this year, two prevailing themes were expressed.
1.) The first 114 wins did not matter. It was the next 11 that determined the team's legacy.
2.) Andy Pettitte said those 114 wins did not come in a vacuum. The Yanks gained confidence by winning in all kinds of game situations, and also dominating. So when the playoffs opened, they were ready.

What Boston has done in 2018 is so impressive. That outfield defense is to die for. Mookie is Willie Mays all over again. Martinez is out of his mind. And David Price has found himself again. This is a great baseball team. They know how to win.

Glad you posted that. I was thinking, but did not write, that if anything, the top seed (and the wins that contributed to it) would cut the other way. The wins would give the team confidence that they could come back if they were behind in a game and generally make them think they can win in all situations. Again, I think the most important thing is playing well in the tourney (and health), but yeah, if the wins swing any way, I do think it's as an advantage.

The David Price thing about finding himself...I just hope it lasts! It should.
