Gray gets a spot start tonight to provide an extra day of rest for Severino and Tanaka.
Twins are countering with Tyler Duffy, who is probably Irish.
Nice to see Sanchez get three hits last night. He said after the game that he has been hitting the ball hard all season.
Yanks looking forward to coming home. They are 4-3 so far in this road trip.

Hard to believe but Sonny actually has a 1.83 ERA in 19.2 innings since being sent to the bullpen, including one other previous spot start. He is going on 8 days rest.

On the Sanchez point, he really has looked like a victim of bad luck much of the year but if starts to swing like he always has and like he did last night, it could be just the boost this team needs right before we get a healthy Judge back for the WC game.

He is 64th this year in hardest hit rate (behind 3 other teammates, FYI), so he is in the upper 1/3rd of the league in that category....

You wonder whether the missed time helps or hurts injured players. Long layoffs can freshen up a player, assuming he's healthy. Judge may not come back healthy nor with enough time to regain his stroke. Sanchez has enough time.
Probably the most important injured player right now is Chris Sale.

Funny thing is I'm reading the Sox threads and they're not scared of anyone except Houston. If they don't have a fire-breathing Chris Sale, they should be scared of everyone.

The 1998 postseason was very different for Yankee veterans of that era because they had won 114 games and didn't want to screw it up, as the 2007 Patriots did in a similar circumstance.

Sale should be able to ramp up to 100 pitches over the final 19 days of the regular season. Barging setbacks, of course. The extra time he spent on the sidelines should preclude a relapse. But he's a hold your breath player in October, as Judge will be whenever he checks a swing,

I’m genuinely worried about a healthy Yankee lineup against our bullpen in the Division Series, and Happ and Tanaka are pitching well. The Sox have a slight edge with a healthy Sale, but I’m expecting a tough five game series with NY. Go Oakland!

They Schmey. Some of we Sox fans ARE worried about the Yankees. I worry about any of the potential opponents. October baseball is both pleasure and pain, and if you make it, it's white knuckles for as long as you're in it. Anyone stating that they aren't worried abut the Yanks, or Oakland or any national League team is deluded.

I miss the days when we all hated each other.

Tonight, I think Sonny Gray goes deeper into his game than Sale goes in his.

Sox bought the 2018 pennant with the highest payroll in baseball.

    Now I feel even better.

We really need a Yanks-Sox playoff series to juice up the rivalry again. Nothing like a high-stakes showdown to liven things up around here.

Now excuse me. I am scouting Chris Sale tonight!

Didi triples to left center with one out in second. CF could not cut the ball off. And here comes the red-hot Gary Sanchez!

That CF was Yankee until spring training Jake Cave, who has been having a solid season for MIN.

I never could tell the difference between Cave and Gamel in the minors. Good players, lacking power.
Funny to see Austin on first base after his single, talking to Voit. What are they saying? You took my job?

Now everyone is doing it. Molitor just pulled his starter after two innings.

And Chris Sale went one inning in Fenway, plus one in the bullpen.

Sonny escaped a bases-loaded jam in bottom of the second. After retiring the first five Twins without breaking a sweat.

Sonny gives us a good first, starts to crumble in the latter part of the 2nd and falls apart in the 3rd

Oddly no whining from Sox fans tonight about how MIN always rolls over for NY, blah blah blah.

So these are the first two games Flaherty and Leiter have done as a team. Interestingly I thought last night they were their normal dull and occasionally annoying (Leiter) selves but then they did some really remarkable work on the Sanchez AB leading up to his 460 foot shot to make it 1-0 in the 6th. They couldn't really believe Gibson was daring to throw an inside fastball, they had a bit of pitcher/catcher chemistry in trying to think along with the Twins through the AB, and they proved to be correct in their shock at the pitch calling, although in Gibson's defense, the pitch wasn't even a strike. Tonight they are back to meh from what I've heard, but some potential for more than the sum of their (generally dull) parts as a team IMO.

BOS and TB are going to knock NY into playing the coin flip game in OAK, at least Manaea is out but Fiers has been pitching great.

I want to, he is the same age as me and I remember reading about him in the Star-Ledger when we were both in NJ high schools and he was putting up 16 K games, but he is frequently pretty bullheadedly stupid. If he sat next to you at a sports bar and talked the entire time, you would be gone by the fifth inning.

But I mean...in the past 17 seasons (including the playoffs where it's 13-2), the Yankees are 108-36 in this matchup. They're the 1906 Cubs against the Twins. Our whining is statistically valid! :)

It's just so dull to me. If it is really such a sure thing, go bet on it and be happy. As we saw tonight, it isn't and I have been saying it for months but quality of opposition seems pretty much (oddly) irrelevant to NY this year, with the one exception of the Fenway sweep and they were missing Judge and Happ for that.

Without looking it up, I am sure the mighty Orioles have won more games against NY this season than they have against anyone else, no one is rolling over for NY this year or any year. SoSH should collectively be better than this IMO.

They are not officially saying, but it sure seems like Judge is on track to play this weekend once or twice before the BOS series next week. He has missed the last 43 games, that should be a huge boost if he looks anything like the guy booming HRs to all fields in BP this week.
