Such that much more clutch ABs can come from Cutch, we should improve a touch.

I'm excited to see what he can do in a new place. Also, Severino looks to keep building on his positive starts to get back to where he was earlier in the year.

Not that I really feel bad for him, but McCutchen has to fly from SF to NY to play in 2-3 games this weekend (depending on when he gets here), then fly back to OAK on Monday.

    No McCutchen in the lineup.

Josh Donaldson isn't quite ready to play games again yet, but he has cleared waivers and will be moved somewhere by midnight. NY is one of the teams talking to TOR, according to the never reliable Steve Phillips.

Why would you want to take away at bats from Andujar?

He makes Devers look like Brooks Robinson, but he would be the DH if Donaldson came back and was healthy. If/when Judge comes back, they can figure things out then.

LOL - I don't know if I'd go that far but he has had his problems. Is third his natural position? Can't be, can it?

Jon is being harsh. I think Andujar has dramatically improved at third the past couple of weeks. He has two primary issues and both of them seem solvable. He can field really well but he has a double pump and natural sidearm. Those are issues that can be solved with reps.

Have we discussed the twilight days of Brett Gardner yet? Club option for 2019. Carving out a sub-par season by his standards in OBP and batting average. Wearing down as the season drags on. Frazier's concussions made Gardner play more in the field than Boone wanted.
If McCutchen shines in his six-week audition, maybe he gets an offer. Or else they go after Harper.
    Either way, Gardner seems gone.

As a Sox fan, I won't miss Gardner. He can be pesky. He used to foul pitch after pitch away against Papelbon, and often got a hit off of him.

Yes, in fact he has literally only ever played there.

I mean, I love the kid but if anything he is getting worse. He has virtually no lateral movement, he is slow to get rid of the ball and his arm is not always so accurate. I can dig up the stats that have him rated as literally the worst defensive season by a 3B in the last 5 seasons or so if you like. And the reason I don't think they can be solved with reps is the reaction time/lack of lateral movement is the main problem, and that I think is rarely something that will approve.

Yeah, he probably would have been brought back with a strong season or even a strong second half but right now he is the opposite (although still very good defensively).

This new YES graphics box is awful, why would they change it in late August?

Friends and I agree. It's not just because there's a change, it's stupid. You don't need that much space for outs.

This might be rock bottom, it would really be nice if they could come back and win this before reinforcements show up tomorrow.

OK, I like Aaron Boone like 20 percent more now. That catcher's crouch move was amazing.

I would. If he is healthy. They need a great defender at third base. Miggy can DH or learn how to fill in at first base.

Cannot see any reasonable scenario in which our pitching suddenly gets hot enough to get us deep into the playoffs....

Definitely, but it must have confused the first base ump because he kept the bat head back but his arms went a long way.

Whew, they really really needed that one, they have no bullpen tomorrow but at least the lineup will be better.

Was the Tigers outfield playing too deep on the Torres hit? Sterling was adamant that the outfield was playing too deep (he said this before the pitch to his credit) and it cost them.

Hard to see that on TV but Torres hit it hard and the outfielder really wasn't close, he was lucky it bounced off his head or it would have rolled to the wall as his dive was nowhere near the ball.
