I’d be really scared if this were 2013.

You have been way too positive of late. I mean you have been dead right all the way along but it will end badly at some point. Just you wait!

Collective panties is an odious concept. How would that work?
I think we can all agree that it's more fun when the Red Sox win, and that said winning is made easier by bad bullpens on the other team.

Good point and probably not the best sayings either these days.

I have no problem with the Sox beating up on bad bullpens. Its the MLB and its late August - everyone is either gassed or new to the MLB. They are beating the teams they need to beat (not named Tampa - and btw, where is the loyalty, Kevin Cash? Huh? I hope Alex Cora sticks you with the bill next time you dine out with him at B-Dubs!).

In any event, the collapse is still coming. It will be epic. This team is a paper tiger!

They both came back and won. Very uncharacteristic for this season's squad.

In football, Outsidethelines.com figured out years ago that beating the teams you should beat is actually a better indication of team quality from a statistical perspective because contests between good teams are closer to a coin flip.

    Last two games:

With León: 12 innings, 3 runs scored
With Swihart: 5 innings, 20 runs scored

In other words, knock it off with the political commentary in game threads. It's non-negotiable. People come here to get away from that crap for a few hours.

Swihart has really earned the chance to start the last couple of nights. Leon can't buy a hit and Swihart has come in and gotten hits both nights to help the Sox rally. I know that the pitchers love throwing to Leon, but he is an instant out at the plate.

They have to make it to September first. One month at a time!

I love that with Nuñez and JBJ hitting (and Devers soon to replace Nuñez, against RHP anyway), Swihart at C gives us a semi-legit threat to do damage at every spot #1-9. At least, I'm not totally depressed when he steps to the plate, as with Leon and Vaz.

Had to pause down 0-4 due to family commits.

    The ending pleases me.

I go to bed with the Sox trailing 4-0 and the Yanks ahead. I wake up to these scores and shake my head in disbelief. These are the days that make me think this year is charmed.

Yes indeed. And imagine the flip side. Last night’s turnabout had to be an awful gut punch for MFY players and fans. And Aaron F Boone. Talk about charming.

Yep. I think of being a MFY fan and going to bed with a lead, and seeing Boston down 4-0, and waking up to the reverse.

    Glorious thought, actually.

I'm actually envious of any of these fans who can go to bed while their teams are playing. We addicts get so over-stimulated we can't get to sleep until 1:30ish.

Come on, I should get some kind of trophy for this, right?

The streak ends at a cool 97!

Wait. Aren't you the one who walks away and puts the game on DVR when Kimbrel comes in? Or used to or something? Or am I thinking of someone else?

No, you have me pegged. But 1) my DVR was fried in a lightning strike and I just got the replacement, not quite set up yet and 2) I always waited until Kimbrel was in the game, then set the DVR, did other little chores, and once I found out he hadn't blown it, would zoom through the recording. But lately, these 7th innings are getting me all stirred up, not the least because it means no need for CK!

The only Sox reliever I can remember doing that with is Papelbon. Part of it was because he worked so damned slow, so I’d go out back and whack on some wood (actually prune some trees or something). Paps was worth it though: 16.2 WAR in 7 years for us. Kimbrel is at 6.5 in about 2.83 seasons. Very close in WAR per season, those two.

The reason I never stop watching Kimbrel when he is pitching is that he is such a beast and I don’t know when I’ll ever see another one like him. I know he can be maddening.
