Losing one game to Chicago is not a big deal. Losing two would be a concern. Just win each series and sweep Boston in NY. That's a plan.
James Shields vs. Lance Lynn tonight. In normal times, this would be a slugfest but have you seen the Yankees' lineup lately? Torreyes and Robinson look like they just got back from Williamsport.

If I had posted this lineup on Opening Day and told you that's who we'd be playing heading into the Labor Day weekend, the universal reaction would have been: what unspeakable disaster has befallen the team ? Indeed.

You mean, like Judge missing the heart of the playoff drive? Didi out for 10 days in August. Bird MIA except for the occasional home run and bunt single. Chapman with knee troubles? Sanchez overweight, hitting .190, and hurting his groin twice.
And yet they have the second best record in MLB.

Yeah, 5 guys who should be in there, 3 hurt (Didi/Sanchez close to return, Judge still not close) and Bird sucking.

Had you said this in the presence of Steinbrenner peré, you would have had to duck after that final remark as he heaved something heavy at your head from across the room.

Actually I think my first reaction would be psyched that Gleyber and Andujar were both up and hitting well enough to be in the middle of the order.

Really hot and humid today in NYC, players are dropping like flies at the US Open. Gametime 'feels like' temperature is supposed to be 99, we're gonna see some home runs.

Lynn had to get 8 outs in first 2 innings thanks to Bird's muff and Stanton mistiming his leap on a liner to deep right.

Bird stings liner to the warning track where it is caught by Garcia.

Bases loaded for Matt Davidson, two outs in the third. Lynn is laboring in the heat. Over 50 pitches. Lost the strike zone. Six straight balls. 2-0 to Davidson. Now it's 3-1. This is not going to end well. But it does. Grounded to short.
Lynn has now got 12 outs thru 3 innings.

Lynn thru 4 with 68 pitches. None of his fielders botched a play in that inning.
Meanwhile, Shields is commanding all four of his pitches. He is toying with the Yankees.

Shields with 50 pitches thru 4 scoreless. Yanks have not threatened at all. This is so boring, the Bleacher Creatures went home.

Getting dominated by Rodon and the corpse of James Shields is fun.

Lynn isn't in CC's category in terms of sweating. ChiSox take a 1-0 lead in fifth on a single and double.

Andujar ranges three feet to his left, snags grounder, gets to his feet and retires the runner on a quick throw. No crow-hop this time.

Meredith Marokowitz talked to Judge today. Still feeling pain in wrist. Describes his pain as a 4. Two weeks ago, he said it was a 5. Still pain when he touches the wrist.
    Very unsettling news.

Also cannot throw with any power, let alone even think about swinging a bat....

Shields walks Gleyber to lead off fifth. Goes to 2-1 on Bird. Bird fouls off changeup, weakly. Then he hits a soft liner to first for easy DP. Cone not impressed by the swing. Late on fastballs, out in front of offspeed

The cortisone shot actually set him back evidently, not a good job by Yankee doctors.

Holder comes on with two outs and two on in the sixth, gives up two hits. 4-0. Lot of booing from the stands.

Kay just acknowledges the White Sox are not mailing it in. As opposed to the Orioles.

Hicks is a very underrated piece to this team. Solid defense, puts up decent at bats, power...Such an underrated Cashman move.

The ONLY parts of our current situation that Cashman might have predicted is issues with the age of CC and Tanaka, everything else is just lousy luck

Just catching up, no one has to believe me but somehow I knew both Hicks and Walker were going deep, the only two times I thought that this game. Nice to steal one with the B lineup...

The parallels are really crazy, both the best power hitters of their time, but somehow no one takes fastballs right down the middle like those two in their slumps.

Manny went through periods of this too, and of course because it was Manny it would seem like he started walking back to the dugout before the pitch even hit the glove.
