Eovaldi's last 16 IP... 34 H, 20 R, 14 ER, 3 BB, 11 K
Finally a hit Mook.
At least they won't be no-hit
He's been pitching fine. Eliciting soft contact with every batter.
Bloop double in front of Holt
Infield chopper single
Dribbler past 2b
Soft grounder to left
Soft grounder to right
Bloop single to center
Soft bloop triple to left misplayed by Holt
So they're hitting the ball... but literally every single one of their hits has been soft. What do you guys want Eovaldi to do?
Yeah because every bad week turns into a historic collapse. And you just assume six MFY wins in September. If I had that mentality I couldn’t watch sports. I really hope the players and coaches are mentally tougher than people on this board. They’re playing like shit this weekend and should be criticized for it but come on.
Miss some bats?
WIN EVERY GAME BECAUSE IF THEY DONT OH NOES WE’RE DOOMED! THE MFY ARE GONNA CATCH US BECAUSE IT HAPPENED FORTY YEARS AGO!
This is a horrible game. The lineup makes no sense. They have an off day tomorrow but Eovaldi apparently will be left in there to continue giving up hits. Mookie running down 5. They're allowed to have bad days but this stuff seems avoidable.
To be fair, by the end of today, it will likely be a 6 game lead. Hardly insurmountable.
He's got 4 strikeouts in 3 innings so far. That a 12.0 k/9 rate, which is pretty awesome for a starting pitcher.
Cash should win Manager of the Year unanimously.
My Lord that dugout looks depressed!
I no but they can’t have a bad week without people panicking. I just hate that shit. It makes us look like losers as a fan base. The team has won 3 World Series in the last 14 years. Won the division the last 2 and has 90 wins in August and they lose their first series in 2 months and people are panicking.
Boogey has 1 homer vs LHP.
They’re 20 games out of 1st.
TV off. Golf clubs in car. See you Tuesday.
Two triples for Kiermaier on 0-2 counts. Literally should never happen. Guess we’re going to ride Sandy into the ground for some reason though.
I think I'm done.
It's the 2004 ALCS all over again.
We go up huge, and then Pedro is brought in which revitalizes the Bronx and for a moment - it feels like 2003 is going to repeat.
Of course, that never happens... But the fear is always there regardless of past success. A week ago, Yankee fans were hoping for a favorable matchup in the Wild Card...now they're legitimately excited about winning the division again. I don't want that...I want the Sox to step on their necks and watch the life of their season drain from their eyes.
Kopech still has a 0.00 ERA.
When will Sale pitch again?
A cat doesn’t just let the mouse run away.
If we lose the wild card game does Cora get fired?
It was just a play on words. I’m 52 years old and have seen my share of collapses. I don’t expect the Sox to win every game, but a late season funk - especially one where they’re playing lackluster or uninspired ball - still causes a tinge of nervousness to brew in the recesses of my brain. A few wins, and it’ll recede again.
Just an awful team right now in all aspects.
I’m not worried about 40 years ago. I’m worried about the Yankees chasing us down because they are really good, they have six left against us, and they are two wins away against inferior competition from being able to say on Tuesday that they chased down 5.5 games in the standings against us in 9 days with significant pieces on the DL.
Bad work there Sandy. Not that hard of a play.
Feels like that's as hard as Pearce can hit it.
Both of the following sentences are true:
We have been thoroughly outplayed this weekend.
Our luck has been beyond horrific this weekend.
Put in the subs, Alex. Oh, already are.
They are leaking runs everywhere. Wild pitches then can’t get the key out with runner on 3rd, less than 2 outs
If it came to that, he probably does.
The Rays have 6 hitters with a higher BA than the established Jackie Bradley Jr.
So, how did you guys let this happen?
Did Cora white-flag the game with Cy Young on the mound?
Hope it’s like the 2014 Pats losing 41-14 to the Chiefs in 2014 and going on to win the Super Bowl, or the 1994 49ers losing 40-8 to the Eagles and doing the same.
Ah well, at least we didn't get cheated on the Snell start. I'd probably feel worse if we had lost 1-0.
Snell has that Jonathan Rhys Meyers "Dracula" look going on.
At least Eo didn’t walk anybody/always a silver lining in there somewhere.
Between the game results, the uniforms, and having to suffer through Steve Lyons, this is, hands down, the least enjoyable weekend of the season thsufar.
TBS has the game as well, so the Lyons problem is fixable.
Ron Darling is very good; Ernie OK.
I use MLB.tv. So I can overlay the WEEI feed, but the camera work can be offputting.
the Sox and Yankees both have two series against last-place quality teams in the next week. Then, we face division leaders (or close to it) for a week while the Yanks have to go to the west coast to take on two playoff-caliber teams (Seattle is borderline, but still, they're there).
that feels like essentially the same schedule for two weeks, or about 40-50% of the remaining season. If they keep leaking games in the standings after today, that is the time for concern. it isn't now... yet.
You can watch the game stream via TBS.com if you have a qualifying cable TV subscription.
If Sale comes back, and Eovaldi/ERod moves to the pen, I'm not really concerned about our pitching come October.
But, it sure feels like whenever we've run into good pitching (even before this week), we struggle to score runs. We seem to destroy bad pitching, and have a lot of monster days, but when we face good starting pitching, the struggle is real, and I could be wrong, but I feel like that's been true for most of the season. Fortunately, there has been a lot more bad pitching that we've faced than good pitching. But, come October, and teams like Cleveland and Houston, who have really good pitching, and depth on top of it, even if we get great pitching, I'm starting to become really concerned that our lineup isn't as good as we think they are.
What is this "cable TV" thing you speak of?
The Red Sox don’t have a significant piece on the DL? This Red Sox team is really good. I’m confident in them against the MFY in the six remaining head to head games. They’re getting their asses kicked this weekend and deserve criticism for completely not showing up for these games but anything beyond that is just fan paranoia.
Sandy took on 3-0. Praise Jesus.
Off thread but a mass shooting in Jacksonville, Florida...again. Madden video game tournament. Can we just lose this state?
At least we're spare from the ignominy of not being no hit.
