On the mound, we have a big old guy with knee problems. Ironically, his polar opposite in physique, pitching mechanics, and basically everything is also having knee problems and on the DL.

A friend asked me if Baltimore and Tampa just play us harder and it certainly seems like they do. Baltimore has a .693 OPS vs the league and a .731 OPS vs the Yankees. They have the second most homeruns against a team against us at 17.

Let's stop that shit tonight, eh?

Does your friend think that the Twins do the opposite? "It certainly seems" that way.
    Stuff and nonsense!

You’re saying motivation has no factor in who wins?

No, I'm saying that under most circumstances, all teams try their best. Tampa is very fired up now, because they've been winning (five in a row). Baltimore, not so much. Maybe they particularly want to beat the Yankees, but Why? Why not the Sox also?
What about the other way: namely, that the Yankees play down to their inferiors and don't put out top effort against the teams at the bottom? Do you think there's any validity there?
Basically, I think the Rays have amazing pitching, and can beat any other team on any given day. I wish the Sox didn't have to play them again, despite having a winning record against them.

That's all obvious and common sense, I think (which doesn't mean it doesn't need to be said occasionally, so thanks). The one exception might be the Mets in a down season like this one, whose owner has said it's not a happy day unless both the Mets win and the Yankees lose.

Heh, Mike Harkey with the best name yet on his jersey for Player's Weekend, "I'm not CC".

I can’t believe it’s likely going to take his sixth year of eligibility to finally get into the HOF. He’s sitting at 63% and should get in next year along with Rivera.

While not on the schedules, MLBN is carrying either the Sox or the Yanks tonight, since I'm in the Boston area, I get the boys in pinstripes

Boone benched Bird tonight for Luke Voit. That sums up Bird's season.

Voit hits into DP first time up. He makes Chris Carter a fond memory.

Missed it. I agree. Good for Voit. He better do something while Bird tunes up his stroke in BP.

I missed the 2-run homer Robertson just gave up, too. Orioles lead, 4-2, heading into the 8th.
You can't go to the bathroom when D-Rob is pitching. Numbers are still good but he seems to be giving up more homers. Gleyber's error made both runs unearned. Bad hop grounder. Kid makes a lot of errors for a smooth fielder.

two on for Walker in 8th. I can kill this rally by watching. Maybe I should walk away. Or change seats. Couch or chair?

Second straight bloop hit. Bases loaded for Luke. Which wakes up Buck, who is bringing in the righty.
Would Boone bring Bird off the bench?

Another bloop hit and two runs score. Andujar knocks ball out of catcher's glove otherwise he is out. Hard slide.

Voit does bat against Givens. He has two hits and just took a couple big swings. He is on Givens, who strikes him out on 97 riding hard on inner half.

Pitching around Romine to get to Toe but the ump calls ball four a strike. And then Romine checks his swing and ball hits his bat. Foul. Finally, he walks.

    Betances in, wearing yellow shoes.

With one out, Chris Davis bloops single to left. His second hit of game. Look out, Rob Deer. Now a legit hit up the middle.

El Acido turns to his breaking ball and strikes out two minor leaguers who are masquerading as Orioles this summer.

Tanner Scott and his 6.13 ERA in for top of the order. He may only face Gardner because Buck is managing like this is the World Serious.

Tate better become a useful reliever or they will wind up with nothing for Britton. This guy is a bum.

Still not really impressed with Britton, but nice to win on a night Robertson and Britton both give up HRs and Chapman is on the DL. Fitting for Voit to make the last out unassisted.

NY is 64-33 when Judge starts, 16-14 when he doesn't.
