NY heads to Miami, land of Derek Jeter, a very ugly fish tank, and old buddy Starlin.

Oh, also some guy named Stanton played here for a while, my quick count has him hitting 15 HRs here in the final 23 home games he played last year.

If the Yankees have any shot at the division, this week is their best chance. We seem to have our swagger back, at least temporarily, and I'm optimistic that Cleveland can smack Boston around a little.

Didi to the DL, useless Luke Voit brought back.

It's more important to get this team ready for the playoffs than to chase Boston. Didi's injury is difficult to avoid because he plays so hard but the Yankees need to find a cruise gear until October.

Justus Sheffield seems to be getting skipped tonight in AAA, and NY will need a sixth starter in the next week or so, plus Cashman said last week Sheffield would be up sometime this season, so fingers crossed.

Voit is up as a pinch-hitter in the NL park, that makes a little sense at least.

The Yankees need to start resting their starting pitchers, one at a time, over the final six weeks so Sheffield should get a few starts, along with Loisiaga and Cessa.

Major question tonight: at which end of the 60 ft 6 inches does Tanaka appear more ugly....

Carole King is writing a song about Gleyber: Natural Shortstop.

Interesting how productive Walker has been over the last month.

And important to the team, too, with Didi down.
As Kay said, Walker was signed late and missed most of ST.
I always liked Walker. He is a Pittsburgh Guy.

Gleyber's footwork on the Castro grounder was so smooth. He gets in position to throw kind of effortlessly.

Stanton's two hits tonight have been smashed. 117 mph single and 113 double off the fence in left that was about five feet off the ground all the way.

1-1 game as someone named Dean homers off Tanaka.

The Melkman cometh at Fenway. Overrated Yankee prospect, still hitting, 14 years later.

Yankees are boring. Still 1-1 heading into bottom of sixth.

Meanwhile, in Boston, Nathan Eovaldi has returned to his maddening form. 10 hits in 5.1 innings.

Britton will pitch bottom of 7th. Yanks went quietly in top of 7th against a reliever throwing 102.

Kay just delivers actual news. Cashman says Sheffield has been moved to bullpen, will make a few appearances as a reliever for Scranton, will come up to NY to work out of pen. Guessing that will happen after Aug. 31 although it makes sense to do it before.

Britton had a clean 7th. Yanks go meekly in 8th. Now Betances time.

Betances strands a runner at second. Going to the ninth. This is like watching soccer. Nobody can score.

Torreyes up as a pinch hitter after Romine strikes out. Boone plays hit-and-run but Torreyes fouls off. Lines out to right on next pitch. Up to Gardner. Stanton in the hole.

Very nice Chad Green. You look like a totally different pitcher.

Green escapes. Two K's around a intentional walk to Castro, then a nice backhand play by Walker up the middle, flips to Gleyber for the third out.

Michael Kay should get an inch in the Times. It will be called The Loss Column and every day it’s just his byline and the number of games behind in the loss column.

    Random trivia

How many times have the Yankees won 100 games in a season and of those seasons how many times did they go on to win the WS?

    19 and 12

I've been complaining about this all year, but they really need to synchronize the feed better so that Kay doesn't call a swinging strike before we see it. It's really bad.

Totally. It's about 1/2 second behind.

Wow. There are no ties in baseball, but they're thinking about calling this one a draw and putting everyone out of their misery.
