Make that a 7-6 win.
I have a better shot at hitting Tri-State Megabucks, than that happening
I really don't criticize Cashman much, but such an awful decision to not move Gray after trading for Happ and Lynn.
Ah, the old line drive out straight at the third baseman! This after a broken bat double and a six-hop single between Bird and Torreyes that plated a run.
Latest Tampa reliever, Ryan Yarbrough, is 10-5 in 30 appearances. Just 5 starts. 111 innings. He'll only get a hold tonight. Faria will get a pat on the back.
The Mets are beating the 36-84 Orioles 14-1, let’s all be thankful we’re not Orioles fans.
Bird is hitting .210 with a .690 OPS vs. righty pitchers in 176 ABs.
.250 against leftys in 44 ABs. .814 OPS.
He hit .190 last year in 200 ABs. So that's around .200 for 400 ABs over past two injury-marred seasons.
First base is a problem.
Blake Snell tomorrow.
I know Terry hates it, but what the Rays have been doing with their pitching this year is really amazing. They’re in the top 4 of the league in most of the team pitching categories and they barely had two starting pitchers for most of the season. They’re just rolling out a bunch of minimum salary nobodies and getting consistently solid results.
I read a story in the Pittsburgh paper today about Tyler Glasnow. He needed a change of scenery. 20 K's in 12 innings so far for Tampa. Funny part of story is a Tampa told him he will be a starting pitcher.
He’s been lights out. He’s a flame throwing giant who seems really well-suited to reach back and let it fly for 4-5 innings.
Skinny laboring in his third inning. 64 pitches so far. Boone may leave him out there until his arm falls off. Hey. A quick out. 66 pitches thru 3 innings. Maybe Tampa will take him.
He was gracious about Pittsburgh and blamed himself but it was clear they had too many coaches in his ear, messing with his mechanics.
The comeback starts now.
I think it's really impressive from a baseball perspective but it's another nail in the coffin of the current CBA, either owners are going to bend way way over in the next negotiations or there's going to be a long strike, sad to say.
Hell, the Yankees are already refusing to work.
The scorer should give Yarbrough the win tonight.
That wasn't the start of a comeback.
There were some embarrassing swings in that inning. Yarbrough is pretty funky.
Great interview. The Rays are Jedi masters of pitching.
God I hate that call, but I will take it.
Yes. And a lot of teams just mess up young pitchers, either on the way up through the minors, or in the big leagues. There is so much that can go wrong with mechanics and injuries.
The seats behind home plate are almost totally empty.
I think the Yanks can get to Castillo here in the 8th.
Yanks have perfected the tapper back to the pitcher.
Kay just mentioned the Yankees seem lifeless tonight. They are deader than Thurman Munson.
Maybe not quite that dead...
@VORP Speed gets the honors tomorrow if he likes. Blake Snell at 1 PM, he may be done by 3.
Another walk. Here comes Stanton with two out and two on. The fans in the bleachers just woke up.
Edit: Wrong stat
Stanton flies out to end it. Hell, I thought it was the 8th inning. Can't see shit anymore.
Take it away, VORP. The Rays killed my spirit tonight and sucked the breath from my lungs.
NY is a weak-ass HR from Romine away from scoring 3 runs in 2 games. TB hasn’t won a series here since 2014, that streak might end tomorrow.
I will gladly be the opener for tomorrow.
You’ve got nothing to worry about with Snell, he can’t be perfect 2 outings in a row, right??
I think he is actually more beatable than the other Cy-level guys if you can get runners on against him, the last I checked he still had a good bit of trouble out of the stretch and NY has traditionally held their own against him.
But mostly teams can't even get runners on against him, and NY is missing Judge and Sanchez and Gleyber seems to have hit a 21 year old wall, my money is on the Good Sir Blake*.
*Not a reference to anything, so don't google, I just felt like saying it.
