    is what we are.

    1. Brett Gardner (L) LF
    2. Giancarlo Stanton (R) DH
    3. Didi Gregorius (L) SS
    4. Miguel Andujar (R) 3B
    5. Greg Bird (L) 1B
    6. Gleyber Torres (R) 2B
    7. Neil Walker (S) RF
    8. Kyle Higashioka (R) C
    9. Shane Robinson (R) CF

with Lynn v Hutchison on the mound @ 1 PM.

In other news we are told the failure to play Walker yesterday had nothing to do with stats or streaks: he had both a 'neck' issue AND some undisclosed 'illness', which certainly bodes well for his performance less than 24 hours later...

This might be my first post a Yankee game thread. I'm asking those who would know much better than I why Stanton is DHing and Walker is in the outfield.

Ridiculous title, no matter today’s result.

Stanton has been having some leg issues, they are trying to DH him a lot, and they are short an outfielder since Judge got hurt right at the deadline, literally three hours after they moved McKinney and with Frazier still suffering from concussion issues.

Opponents runs scored in Yankees last four home losses.

    7, 10, 7, 12.

You gotta put up runs and then some to beat this team at home.

No more ridiculous than your endless comparisons to past years and other useless stats while ignoring our present situation in the only frame of reference that means anything Dr. Pangloss

Thanks for the explanation. Was curious given Walker's neck issue and lack of OF play.

Pretty much everything I say is factual and meant for context except this: you’re an asshole I’m glad I don’t know in real life.

Seriously, which of the other 29 teams would you trade places with, for the remainder of this season and for the future after that? I will go with Boston and Houston for this year and possibly Houston in the future. So yeah, ‘a staggering wreck’.

Reminds me of the 1977-78 Yankees. Coup is Reggie and Jon is Nettles. I would like to be Sparky Lyle.

I want to be Thurman Munson, would be nice to know I was done here* soon.

Why not put Walker at third base and the youthful Andujar in RF?

I gave you Nettles because he was the sharpest tack in the clubhouse, sitting back and laughing at the absurdity of it all. But you can be Munson if you want.
Sparky is best known for sitting butt naked on somebody's birthday cake.
The old guys had more fun.

CC just remarked to Sonny Gray, "Man, this Lance Lynn is fat. But he throws strikes."

I don't think Munson knew that he would be done soon.

Back to baseball: Stanton homers on a 3-0 pitch. This one barely got out to left field. Andujar singles. Bird doubles him in with a liner into the gap in right-center.
Lynn struck out the side in the top of the first. He reminds me of Dick Tidrow, a little mean and nasty.

Nice, just home from the post office and look forward to catching up on that. Stanton went nuts after the ASB last year, he is putting up some nice numbers so far this year after the break.

Can’t we all just get along? Jon and coup I agree with both of you. This team, despite their record, seems to be somehow very beatable on a daily basis. Also, they appear to be primed to contend and be at the very top for years to come.

It’s not wrong to admit that they could be underperforming quite a bit while still winning 100+ games.

I think it is, though. They're a top 3 team in baseball no matter how you look at it, they just won 4 in a row before losing yesterday, their rotation is in the best shape it's been in years and their lineup will be loaded once Judge and Sanchez are back. Every other team in baseball besides Boston has as many or more (mostly more) problems. 100 win teams are rare and to call this team a 'staggering wreck' I think is ludicrous, as I said.

Also to the 'underperforming' thing, NY was supposed to win around 95 games this year from most sources, 98 is the highest one I remember, so it's hard to see how 100+ wins would be underperforming, unless maybe they won the first 100 and lost the next 62. :)

I think Yankees predicted win total this year was 94 1/2. I'm not sure how winning 100+ could be considered "underperforming" or "underperforming quite a bit"

    YMMV

Exactly, plus although some fans don't like and/or choose not to accept it. this is still a rebuilding year for Cashman before the luxury tax number resets, and that has affected at least some of his decision-making (not just the not spending money, but knowing what he plans to do this winter, which we don't obviously know). Both Houston and Boston started putting long-term building blocks into place years before NY started this time around, it's impressive that NY has caught up as much as they have IMO.

I agree, throw in a rookie manager, who manages like a rookie manager, and its hard not to be bullish on the Yankees.

I still hold, as I did in December, that the starting rotation would be the team's Achille's heel.

I look at this current Yankees team as more in the 1994-95 mode, with the Red Sox being the Orioles of that era. Their window to win is now, because it feels like a repeat of 96-2001 is happening over the next 5-6 years.

Walker singles in Bird for a 3-1 lead. Britton pitching the 7th.

With this pennant race, there's no need to get excited until September. If then.

And despite all of your proof that it’s hard to win 100 games, we are 6-6 vs two very bad teams in our division and have lost a handful of games due to untimely errors. We spent the entire month of July barely hitting with RISP and had a 30 game stretch where we played under 500.

You are right and you are wrong. I’m not saying this is a bad team. I’m saying this is a great team who should have a better record than they do.
