Have to figure 18th round draft pick Jordan Betts isn't long for Lowell... hitting his 5th HR this morning in his 19th professional game. 11 of his 23 hits have gone for extra bases.

(As an aside, Jordan is a very popular name in the Red Sox organization... I blame New Kids on the Block)

Devers now 8 for 11 with 4 XBH to start his GCL stint.  Tough adjustment.
So far he's 1/2 with a 3 run HR in the second game, so 9/12 with 5 XBH.

I don't see much chance that his bat isn't well ahead of his defense, which will likely mean he gets promoted faster than he develops defensively and will be moving to LF or 1B sooner than later (maybe RF if his arm is legit).

And his first homer in game 2. He's got to be one of the RS top 5 prospects at this point, right?

Bogaerts dominating pitchers in the minors didn't push him off his position until the majors, and even then that was only to try to help the team through the WMB injury / Drew signing.  I don't see why this would change for Devers.  Seems pretty clear the Sox try to keep a guy at the toughest position he can play for as long as he can handle it.  As we've seen with BROCKHOLT! and Mookie Betts, they appear unafraid to throw an infielder into the outfield with only a handful of games experience.

No question. Let's not forget he's 14 months younger than our number 1 draft pick, Michael Chavis, whom he's batting right in front of in the order.

I'd give it until the end of the season, but it's looking that way, especially if Betts loses his status and Garin continuing to suck. Of course Deven could be top 5 if he keeps it up too. There is room for both in the top 5 though. Swihart, Owens and then it's debatable.

I've heard that they are so desperate for a win, they've asked to play their parent team in a scrimmage game.

An infield single with two errors on the play put a runner at 3rd who scores on a double play. Odd inning, but 1-0 Columbus into the 2nd

PawSox ‏@PawSox 9m
Columbus adds another run on a Justin Sellers solo HR with 2 outs, but Webster pitches out of a bases loaded jam to keep the score at 2-0

STORIES

PAWSOX

Game Story

Andres Torres and Travis Shaw clubbed back-to-back home runs in the tenth inning to complete a comeback from an early 2-0 deficit as the Pawtucket Red Sox defeated the Columbus Clippers, 5-3, in ten innings Tuesday night at Huntington Park in the third of a four-game series.

Will Middlebrooks, continuing a Major League injury rehab assignment, played the first nine innings as the designated hitter and went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in the PawSox two-run sixth. Middlebrooks is now 5-for-19 with two walks and three RBI in six games since resuming his rehab stint last week.

Torres followed Jonathan Herrera's one-out single in the tenth with a mammoth blast out to right (3) for the go-ahead homer against Columbus reliever Bryan Price (0-1). It was Torres' second longball in as many days. Shaw followed with an opposite field drive into the seats in left (7), his fifth home run in the last two weeks.

Pawtucket (48-46) won its second consecutive game after dropping five of the first six games it played in July. Starter Allen Webster allowed single runs in each of the first two innings but settled down after and lasted seven full innings and threw a season-high 108 pitches.

Webster, who allowed a solo home run to Justin Sellers (1) in the second that made the score 2-0 Clippers, gave up eight baserunners in the first two frames but then only four more over his final five innings. He walked four and struck out six on the night.

After being shutout for the first five innings, Middlebrooks' RBI double got Pawtucket on the scoreboard in the sixth against Columbus starter Tyler Cloyd. Alex Hassan followed with an RBI single to right that tied the score. Neither side plated another run until the PawSox scored three in the tenth.

Drake Britton (2-3) pitched a perfect bottom of the ninth and earned the win. Newcomer Miguel Celestino allowed a two-out home run to Carlos Moncrief (9) in the tenth but retired the other three men he faced to earn his first Triple-A save.
SALEM

Game Story

The Frederick Keys scratched across a run in the tenth, and held on for a 7-6 victory in ten innings at LewisGale Field Tuesday night.

Miguel Chalas got the win in relief for Frederick, lasting three and a third out of the pen, allowing four hits without a run. Kyle Martin was saddled with the loss, going three and a third, surrendering four hits and a run. Jesse Beal picked up his second save for the Keys.

Frederick struck in the first inning off Sox starter Cody Kukuk. Mike Yastrzemski led off with a walk, followed by a single by Glynn Davis. With one out, Michael Burgess hit a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0. A batter later, Jason Esposito singled in Davis to give the Keys an early 2-0 edge.

The game was then delayed by rain for 30 minutes before the bottom of the second inning. The Keys would strike again in the top of the third, with William Cuevas coming out to the mound for the Sox after the delay. Davis led off with a double, and scored on a single by Burgess to give the Keys a 3-0 lead.

The Sox would get on the board in the fourth. Mike Miller scored on a single by Aneury Tavarez to get the Sox within two.

The teams would each put up three spots in the fifth. With one out, Trey Mancini singled, and Burgess and Esposito doubled back to back. That was followed up by a sacrifice fly by Sawyer, good enough for three runs and a 6-1 edge.

But the Sox clawed their way back in the bottom of the frame. Jordan Weems led off with a double, followed by a single by Vinicio. Then Matty Johnson launched his first triple of the game. He score don a single by Mike Miller to cut it to 6-4.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Sox complete the comeback to tie the score. Tavarez led off with a single and stole second. With two outs, Jose Vinicio, singled to put on for Johnson. Matty stroked his second triple of the game, scoring both runs and tying the score.

Cuevas was solid out of the pen holding down the Keys, lasting four and two thirds, allowing four runs on six hits.
DRIVE

Game Story

Hall of Famer Yogi Berra once said, "It's déjà vu all over again." That saying applies to Tuesday's meeting between the Greenville Drive (3-17, 37-52) and the Charleston RiverDogs (7-13, 40-50), as for the second night in a row, the RiverDogs received a walk-off hit in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-3 victory.

Mark Payton played the role of hero for the RiverDogs, as following a leadoff single by Gosuke Katoh and a sacrifice bunt, he lined the game-winning single to right field off Mike Adams (2-3).

Angel Rincon (2-2) got the win for Charleston after throwing a pair of perfect innings.

The RiverDogs wasted no time getting the offense going against Drive starter Daniel McGrath, as Michael O'Neill cracked a homer to lead off the bottom of the first. Later in the frame, Miguel Andujar delivered an RBI double to score Tyler Wade, who reached on a bunt single.

The Drive stormed back in the top of the second, scoring all three of their runs on the night. Carlos Asuaje and Jake Romanski hit back-to-back singles to begin the inning, and following an error that loaded the bases, Kevin Mager hit an RBI groundout to short to make the score 2-1. Jimmy Rider then singled to left field to bring home a pair and put the Drive on top.

Kale Sumner knotted things up at three with a solo homer leading off the bottom of the second, and the score would remain there until Charleston's winning rally.

Jonathan Aro hurled three shutout innings of relief for the Drive, including escaping a bases-loaded, no-out jam without giving up a run in the sixth.
SPINNERS

Game Story

The Vermont Lake Monsters, who had three bases-loaded opportunities throughout the game, finally came through in the ninth inning, winning on a walkoff double by Scott Masik, 5-4, over the Lowell Spinners Tuesday afternoon.

With the loss, the Spinners went 1-4 on a five game road trip through Tri-City and Vermont.

Lowell (12-13) wasted no time getting on the board, as they put runners on the corners with one out in the first inning. After Raymel Flores failed to score on a wild pitch and was thrown out at the plate, Jordan Betts delivered an RBI single to knock in Nick Longhi with the game's first run.

The Spinners took advantage of some shoddy Vermont defense in the third as Mike Meyers doubled with one out, and scored on a groundout by Bryan Hudson as Lake Monster shortstop Gabriel Santana attempted to throw out Meyers as he moved to third, but the ball got away and Meyers scampered home.

Vermont (10-15) then tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI groundout and a triple by second baseman Joe Bennie.

However, Betts smashed his team-leading fifth homerun of the season on the first pitch of the fourth inning to put the Spinners back on top. After Cisco Tellez walked and Franklin Guzman followed with a single, Jordan Prochysen advanced the runners into scoring position with a groundout and Deiner Lopez lifted a sacrifice fly to center field deep enough to score Tellez.

Vermont cut the lead in the sixth to one run as Dayton Alexander singled to lead off the inning, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch by Mario Alcantara and scored on a sacrifice fly.
