The bad news?  PawSox 2-3-4-5 hitters go 1-16 with a single.
The good news?  They win 10-0 anyway.

What happened to Carson Blair? He was having a month for the ages at Salem and hasn't played in a week. Did anybody see anything indicating how badly he is hurt?

If the Coyle we're seeing now is anything close to the type player he really is, he might be a better 3rd base prospect than Cecchini!  I'd still like to see him continue to show production for another 100 ABs or so before I'm convinced enough, though, as his previous years Salem OBPs were unimpressive

I was wondering the same thing.  Apparently, Derek Gibson caught whatever Blair had found, b/c he is having a very similar run at reviving his prospect status while on the cusp of being released.

Month of June for Ranaudo:

6 GS, 36.2 IP (6+ IP/GS), 1.47 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, .163 opponent's BA, 20% K%, 7% BB%

Not that I am rooting for an injury to the major league or something, but I hope he gets a chance to make a spot start sometime between now and the end of August.  The last two months he has really started to put things together.

Also, just realized it is conceivable that Pawtucket could have a rotation in August featuring some combination of Ranaudo, Barnes, Webster, RDLR, Owens and Johnson.

It's really, really hard not to get excited about the upper levels of our system in the minors.  Clearly, not all will pan out and some will get traded away, but right now, it's a pleasure reading about one of these guys starts each morning.

Is BABIP is well beyond the point of being unsustainable, but yeah, the ceiling on Coyle is basically David Wright at 2B or 3B.  He has amazing potential thanks to his insane raw power.  He needs to cut down the strikeouts though.  As a comparison:
David Wright, at 21, had 272 PA in AA with a slash line of:
.363/.467/.619.  In that time he had 27 2Bs, 10 HRs, 39 BB, and 41 SO.  He also went 20/26 on SB attempts.

Sean Coyle, age 22 after losing most of his age 21 season to injury, has 210 PA to this point in AA with a slash line of:
.361/.440/.612.  So far he has 17 2B, 9 HR, 1 3B, 22 BB, 47 SO and has gone 12/12 on SB attempts.

Coyle clearly isn't as disciplined a hitter as Wright was, but his contact and power numbers are pretty comparable.  Wright has managed a .340 career BABIP in the majors.

An interesting factoid to note: in 2010 David Wright had a .335 BABIP and a SO:BB rate of 2.33 (Coyle's this year is 2.13).  Wright had the second worst full season of his career up to that point with a .283/.354/.503 slash line and a wRC+ of 129.  I mention this to highlight just how valuable that combination of contact and power is, regardless of OBP ability.  If Coyle can manage to just tread water when it comes to his K% and BB% as he advances levels he's potentially a borderline all-star for a decent period of time.  This is exactly the same projection we've all been crossing our fingers and hoping to see Middlebrooks realize as well, though WMB sacrificed some of Coyle's contact ability and a significant drop in BB% in exchange for more power.  I think we'd all gladly see WMB trade ~5 HRs a year in exchange for a 5% uptick in his BB% rate.  That's Coyle.

Gerson Bautista for the DSL Sox has a weirdly great line for the season: 26 IP, 9 H, 11 BB, 15 K, 0 ER.
