Which Velazquez do we get? The 4A scrub in his lone start or the shut 'em down hurler in his relief appearance?

Either way, KC gets the Mexicali Blues.

Did they make Marrero go away for some reason I missed? To bring up tonight's pitcher? Anyway, Sandoval makes me nervous. I guess he wouldn't be playing if Pedroia were able to, but I hope that they can get Marrero back up for late inning relief, unless Devers is headed down instead.

Me, too. I expected Young to play more than he has so far. (In response to RI rooter.)

Valazquez is one of the greatest most talented painters ever. The guy fucking kills it... every time. He'll destroy KC. Titian and the other Venetians... maybe Caravaggio too... were tough matchups. But KC? They don't stand a chance.

Yes, to bring up tonight's pitcher last week. And good thing due to Johnson's injury.

Marrero was sent down so they could bring up another arm (Maddox) for the Houston series...

Edit: Ah, yes, forgot the Johnson DL stint...

CSL is correct that is was for Velazquez. They could have brought Marrero back up right after since Johnson went on the DL but instead they brought up Austin Maddox.

Reports are that Pedey was spitting up blood last night. An MRI was done today and he seems OK but there is quite a bit of swelling.
It looks like he won't be going on the DL but he'll get a few days off for sure.

So, that means we have, wut, one defensive sub who can play the field?

The Royals currently are two games out of a wild card spot. They're in a tough position in terms of dealing right now

Not a Doc but that seems rather serious. My internet education suggests pulmonary contusion. Probably a mild one but these can progress over several days so I am sure they will watch him carefully .

Glad Red Sox Docs have got away from the "we dont MRI bruises" mentality.

I can't take a player with the name Whit Merrifield seriously. That name belongs on a character actor who made his living in low-budget 40s Westerns, usually as an elderly bank clerk who got pistol-whipped by the villain for mouthing off.

Young, who can only realistically play corner outfield, plus whomever isn't catching.

It's pretty bleak. If anything happens to X tonight, the best defensive option at SS might actually be Mookie.

Not shocking, since that was also the book on Bogaerts and Bradley in their rookie seasons.

    He'll adapt.

Whereas Chesler Cuthbert seems less like an actor's name than the character name for a foolish English earl's son, who dotes on the ingenue, but doesn't have a chance with her.

Lorenzo Cain is the name that belongs on the character actor playing the villain pistol whipping the bank clerk.

Who is later stopped by the white hat played by Chelsor Cuthbert.

edit - great minds and all that, ItP

It's been a real pleasure lately watching the O's getting beaten so badly almost every game. Down 7-0 again in the 5th tonight.

    Edit: 8-0

Who is the asshole on these game threads who was saying a few weeks ago how Xander's swing "was a mess" a bc it was "all arms"? Meanwhile he was hitting something like .340.

He may well be out but it seems like a strange challenge with 2 outs and the runner just at first this early in the game.

seems like kind of a marginal challenge given game situation. you'd want to be really sure on this one, and while he looks kinda out, it may not be conclusive.

This batting order makes me very nervous. We were lucky best Astros pitchers are on the DL, but if you labor against mediocre pitching, you will be in big trouble at big games, as last year vs Cleveland (and we had Papi). Sale has had a lot of close games because of the lack of hitting, that will get to you in the long run.

I was one of them. It was because his swing was a mess, he was off balance, and he was all arms. He's looked better lately (obviously).
