Josh Dwayne Smith – not to be confused with Joshua "No apparent Middle Name" Smith who pitched yesterday – surrendered one run on one hit, one walk, and one hit by pitch over 4 1/3 innings; striking out seven. Kyle Martin managed 2 2/3 scoreless frames, giving up three hits, two walks, and a wild pitch while whiffing one. Ryan Brasier pitched a 1-2-3 ninth with one K.

Mike Miller managed two singles and a walk in four matchups. Ivan De Jesus drilled two doubles and took a walk in five jaunts. Adam Lind lined a single and a double in five at-bats. Aneury Tavarez had a single and two walks in four appearances. Rusney Castillo contributed a single and two walks in five forays. Jordan Betts and Mike Olt each had a hit and a walk in five opportunities; Olt with a homer. Dan Butler delivered a double in four trips. Cole Sturgeon suffered five subpar sessions.

Dedgar Jimenez yielded four runs on seven hits – including taters from Ka'ai Tom and Joe Sever – and a walk over six innings; striking out seven. Trey Ball allowed two runs on four hits and a walk over two frames; whiffing two. Travis Lakins let in an unearned run in the ninth; hitting one and striking out one.

Tanner Nishioka notched a pair of doubles in four trips. Nick Lovullo laced a single and drew a walk in four attempts. Jhon Nunez, Jantzen Witte, and Danny Mars each managed a hit in four jaunts; Mars with a double and a stolen base, Witte with a jack. Austin Rei received a free pass in four appearances. Deiner Lopez lined a sacrifice fly in four ventures. Chad De La Guerra and Luke Tendler each had four terrible treks.

Kutter Crawford was having a typical Kutter Crawford start, yielding two singles, a walk, and a wild pitch through four scoreless frames; striking out three. Then, the wheels fell off in the fifth, where he was only able to get one out (via K) before being relieved. In that fifth inning, Crawford gave up four singles and two doubles (and another runner reached on a fielder's choice with no out being recorded) and allowed six runs. Lukas Young yielded one run on two hits while whiffing two in 2 2/3 innings. Devon Fisher finished the final two frames in scoreless fashion; giving up two hits and a walk while striking out a pair.

Frankie Rios reached on a single, a double, and two walks in five forays. Michael Osinski obtained two singles and a walk in four matchups. Darwinzon Hernandez gave up a single, a wild pitch, and four walks in his one inning start, allowing two runs and striking out one. Taylor Ahearn yielded two unearned runs on six hits, a hit by pitch, and a wild pitch over four frames; whiffing a trio. Hunter Smith surrendered one hit and struck out one in two scoreless innings. Jake Cosart struck out one in a 1-2-3 eighth.

Chris Madera managed three singles in four at-bats. Jordan Procyshen, Jerry Downs, Roldani Baldwin, and Brett Netzer each notched one hit in four jaunts; Downs with a double. It appears that despite the overall dearth of starting pitching prospects in the system, Travis Lakins has been relegated to relief at Portland. That’s disappointing.
