Pretty rock solid first 6 starts in AA for Johnson. Seems like he could have the potential of a Workman-type, whose stuff never blows you away but always manages to put up a respectable line. Plenty of value in that, and he's lefty. Even if the Sox dump a ton of money on the table for Lester, there's little reason for Boston's pitching staff to be all that expensive moving forward.

Good recovery from Webster after giving up 6 runs in his last start. A lot of MLB experience in that Norfolk lineup--not a lot of good experience, but experience nonetheless.

This was the best outing of the season for Webster wasn't it?  I mean, 8 innings, 102 pitches, only one walk, and 7 strikeouts.  It's literally every complaint we've had about him over the last year and a half being answered positively.  He went deep and didn't let his pitch count explode on him.  He had control and didn't have those bursts of wildness where he walks a few batters in one inning.  Even the concern over his K rate this year was answered with a strong strikeout line.  Hell, the only guy he struck out twice was Quintin Berry who's been doing quite well in AAA this year so it's not like he victimized one or two over matched or cold hitters to get that.

Hell of a statement to make after his last game and being passed over for Workman and RDLR for the two starts this weekend.

An additional observation: Both Ramos and Perkins are having nice years.  Both are 22 year old, big bodied former two sport guys who needed to basically be developed from the ground up.  Both are showing the first strong signs of that paying off.  Nice to see some of those low floor/high ceiling types actually distinguish themselves.

Regarding Perkins, you really can't learn much about him at Low A as a 22 year old. I agree it's good to see him hitting, but his contact rates are still the issue. I'd like to see them move him up the line in another month or so to see whether we really have something.

Ramos on the other hand is extremely exciting. I remember someoneanywhere always raving about him a few years ago. I am very excited to see him more than holding his own at an age-appropriate level.
