That is my concern. This phone is clearly better than the RAZR which is announced at $299. What's this going to cost?
Yeah, the Razr definitely came out at a weird time. Moto should have released it during the summer, or waited another month or two so it could have ICS. I think their selling points will be the slim form factor, higher megapixel camera, and a lot of consumers either not knowing the difference between OS versions or preferring the Moto UI.

I'm not that worried about it, I love the phone as it is. I can understand why they take time to push updates: a.) a big change in UI from 2.3 to 2.4 might be a bit of a shock for customers that get comfortable with 2.3 and b.) Google would be smart to have the only device with ICS be their flagship phone for the time being so people will buy that phone.

Also, if I really want ICS, I could always root the phone and grab it. I don't think it'll be a problem waiting.
Yeah, the GSII is definitely still an awesome smartphone, and it should get the 4.0 update relatively soon. The real issue is how long will I have to wait with my GS Vibrant...sigh.

Surprised it's going to take that long. What incentive will people have to buy the Razor over the Galaxy if they're both priced the same?

They definitely should have waited until at least next week for the RAZR announcement, but I think they still went with the announcement, because the GNexus/ICS announcement was originally supposed to be last week, and Moto probably didn't want to wait any longer, with the iPhone 4S already out.

Anyone know how long it usually takes for these flagship devices to get price reduced? I'd like to get the Nexus when it drops to $199 or so. 6 months maybe?
It took 4 months for Best Buy's first price drop for the Nexus S. The Nexus S was official on 6 December 2010 at $199.99 with a 2-year contract, and the first sale was on 10 March 2011 for two weeks at $99.99 with a 2-year contract.

Thanks. Also, apparently there's no microSD card slot on the Galaxy Nexus. This kind of sucks. I assume it'll have most of its total storage available for USB access.

Isn't 16GB/32GB enough? lol. Apparently, the Galaxy Nexus is supposed to be a Verizon-exclusive at launch. This really sucks for those of us outside the States.

No!

Actually, I use about 28GB of SD storage and 1GB of my phone's internal storage, so 32 would be enough for me right now. But I don't want to use the cloud for music and I like watching movies on my phone.

The Nexus S failed to have a micro SD slot as well. Major bummer. Regardless of how much space I use, I want the option to add more. Isn't that what Android is about, choices?

That's one of the killers of the Galaxy Nexus for me. Verizon just activated 4G in my area, and I am currently using a rooted/rom'd Thunderbolt, but I am going to either jump to the Bionic, Razr, or Nexus once they are all released.

What sucks about the Razr is the fact that the battery isn't user replaceable, so if battery life sucks, no shot at improving it. What sucks about the Bionic is that the bootloader is locked. What sucks about the Nexus is the lack of expandable storage. Which sucks less? Decisions, decisions.

For me, the Galaxy Nexus sucks the least, since both the Droid Bionic and Droid RAZR has Motoblur.

You guys are really overstating the problems with Motoblur.

About the only thing I notice with Motoblur on my Bionic is actually an enhancement (and something ICS is moving to); a program tray that scrolls left to right instead of up/down. And the program tray adds groups that are quick and easy to access (instead of just ALL/RECENT I can create folders for sports, games, etc.

This is my 3rd Moto Android (original Droid, DX, and an Incredible in between) and the first one I've had no desire to put a custom ROM on. It is rooted, but still running the stock ROM.

Speaking of rooting and such, what is the deal with radios? I see list of various radios with ROMs with little to no explanation as to which one works the best. Are radios something that is more ROM specific or device specific? The radio on my Thunderbolt looks like the most recent. Any reason to try another one if I switch ROMs? I'm on Bamf Soab at the moment.

Yea I would really like to have the option of adding extra memory, but it's something that I'll probably ever really need or use.

I still think the Galaxy is the clear favorite.

The radios are basically driver updates for the communications on the phone. Its device specific, not ROM. Typically you want the most recent radio as it has minor tweaks to improve under-the-hood stuff, sometimes increasing battery life by adjusting the signal reception mechanics.

On the expandable storage thing, I think Google wants you to use more google provided, cloud-based options (music, docs, etc). That gets them more data points to provide more relevant ads to increase their revenue. 16/32 is still a lot.

Has there been confirmation that the Galaxy Nexus has a user replaceable battery? I saw hintings that it didn't but no confirmation anywhere.

That makes sense. I was just getting confused why a post for a ROM specific to the Thunderbolt also referenced half a dozen different radios. I'll leave mine be.

I've seen a few roms that require at least a certain radio or hboot because of the customization they've done but they usually only say that because its what they were testing with so they know that it works.

I've seen pics of it with the back cover removed and an exposed battery... now if that is the final design or not I am not sure but it sure looks that way from everything I've seen.

I the fuck have my music on there, FL4WL3SS.

Galaxy Nexus will apparently have a pentile display. Is that a deal breaker?

The more I read about RAZR and GN, the more I wonder if Rezound is the right move. ICS will sure be tasty though.

The Pentile issue is way overblown. If you've seen a Galaxy S II and liked it, then it's not an issue. I think when we're talking about subpixel density as a dealbreaker, we're losing the forest for the trees.

The Galaxy Nexus just looks so ridiculously sexy that I'm thinking about selling my Thunderbolt, which I absolutely love. I put a BAMF rom on it about three months ago, and changing from CDMA/LTE to full-time LTE has totally revolutionized my battery life. From having to charge at 6:00 PM to going 1.5 days on a charge with normal use and constant LTE. Granted, you can only get away with this if you have good LTE coverage in your area, but in my experience so far the network is getting to be really strong wherever I go. But ICS just looks so appealing.

The SII display is NOT PenTile. It's Super AMOLED Plus. It's nicer than the screen that is on the Galaxy Nexus because of this.

I thought Verizon's network only did calls on CDMA? If you're turning off the CDMA radio, aren't you losing the ability to make calls? Or am I misunderstanding? Last I heard, Verizon hadn't implemented voice over LTE.

Calls work just fine. I know what you're referring to regarding VoLTE; suffice to say, I don't know precisely how my phone is handling phone calls. I just know it's on LTE mode, never switches to 3G, calls work great, and battery is great.

As for Super AMOLED Plus vs. not-plus - again, I think this is a bit silly. I personally feel like it's all some extreme nitpicking, but that's my opinion. Of course, ideally you go to the Verizon store and see it for yourself before you buy it in case the screen sucks. I just can't imagine a flagship device like this will have a truly crappy screen. Will it have the same DPI as the iPhone? No. That doesn't mean it's ugly.

Has their been any answer or speculation about what Google is planning on doing to update the hundreds of handsets on the market with hardware/capacitive buttons on older Android phones?

From what I've seen regarding statements by hardware manufacturers, it makes you wonder if any phone older than 6 months will ever see an upgrade.

I wonder what effect Amazon's proprietary manipulations will have on Google's update schedule in the future. Seems to me like something like that lights a fire under their ass to move as fast as possible to upgrade and improve the platform. Looks like a gauntlet thrown that they won't ignore.

Those buttons will still work as they do in current Android. Whether or not the on-screen buttons will appear or not, I don't know.

There are plenty of reasons why many phones will wait a long time for ICS (or never see it at all), but I doubt trying to figure out what to do with the buttons is in the top ten. Making sure the hardware can actually handle the demands of the OS is probably #1 - the rest of the delays will likely have to do with getting carrier approval, making sure that manufacturers' apps work, making sure the carrier's apps work, and trying to push people on older phones to upgrade to newer phones.

Google's job in getting 4.0 to the masses is almost done - at this point the carriers and manufacturers are the ones doing the heavy lifting.

I believe I saw an article on Engadget or Gizmodo indicating that the hardware buttons will work fine with ICS, and that on those devices, the soft buttons would be suppressed.

Okay so I'm sticking with Android after playing with a friend's 4S. I want a bigger screen to make up for my small...ego.

I have no idea what the fuck a amoled screen is, nor do I care about 1.21 gigawat processor. I want a big screen, good battery, and it to be fast so I can download from mobile youporn.

The Galaxy nexus is my next phone...right?

Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy SII (if you're on Verizon it's the Nexus, if you're on AT&T it's the SII, if your contract is up then it's a toss up and I'd wait until the Nexus to come out and play with both phones)

After seeing more on the HTC Rezound I think I might roll with that instead of the Nexus. 720p display, Beats Audio (although probably a gimmick, I still like the buds), 1.5ghz dual core processor, LTE. After having 4G the past couple weeks I couldn't imagine a phone without it. It's really amazing.

Best of all it allows for you to extend the storage capacity. I am very happy with my Thunderbolt but I am always looking to upgrade my phone to the newest specs every six months or so. I love that HTC is unlocking the bootloader and making these devices easily hackable, so I won't worry about ever receiving ICS because I'll be throwing Cyanogen Mod on it as soon as it's released.

The rezound looks interesting, but the screen is 4.3 instead of 4.6. It doesn't come with Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. Also, I want to see battery life numbers.

Beyond those concerns, the rezound looks killer. I still think I'm going for the Galaxy Nexus, but we'll see what the data says.

That's the thing, I'm sure specwise the phone will be able to run ICS without a problem. Since HTC phones are so easy to hack, I imagine it'll be running ICS within a few weeks of it's release.

If you aren't afraid of rooting and romming, I don't see how it could be a bad choice.

It's totally worth the wait to get the phone you want. I almost got the iPhone 4 when it came out, but waited an entire year for the SII and I'm definitely happy I did.

Please just fuck off and don't read the android thread if you can't take a little humor at the expense of your precious fucking iphone.

Fuck's sake you people are pathetic.

Literally the only reason I see to leave that annoying thread open is so that the iphone vs. android crowd can leave it there instead of every other phone thread. If that tactic isn't going to work, then I will start being a heavy handed douche with no apologies. I did it to shut up the annoying X360 vs. PS3 talk and I'll do it here.

I'm sitting here on Verizonwireless.com looking at the Razor forcing myself to have some patience.

This is the first upgrade I've ever had where I haven't used it immediately. It's not easy.

As someone who absolutely loves my Incredible but may be looking to upgrade in a couple of months, the Rezound looks pretty sweet.

It sure does, but god knows how long HTC will wait before it gets Ice Cream Sandwich.
Root and rom and you will have no problem.

I am pretty disappointed by the thickness of the Rezound. It's a beast specs wise, but it doesn't look like I'll be getting a slimmer device if I dump my Thunderbolt for it. Plus it has a lower battery rating than the Nexus and Razr so I imagine I will be compelled to buy another Seidio extended battery for it.
