Weather has been a difficulty in the Northeast this early baseball season. The PawSox have had three games postponed/cancelled already this season (with one game made up via a doubleheader). However, Buffalo has had it even worse. Officially, they have had 8 games postponed/cancelled (losing full series vs. Rochester and Louisville (two of which were cancelled))... but unofficially they have had an even 10 (as make up doubleheaders were also fully postponed). They have played six fewer games than the PawSox entering this weekends series.

[Buffalo has a 6 game series in four nights against Rochester next month (with only one scheduled day off the entire month), nine games in six nights against Louisville and Indianapolis in July, and then another four game in three night series against Rochester in late August.]

To put the above into even more contrast...

Buffalo has played two fewer games than Greenville has LOST IN SUCCESSION.

The PawSox, meanwhile, have played one fewer game than the Drive has lost in total this season.

It's looking wet for the Sea Dogs tonight, though it's supposed to let up between 8 and 9 so maybe they get it in. I've got tickets so I'm watching that one closely.

Drive rally from a four-run deficit, score three in the bottom of the ninth to break their 13-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory.

Boxscore

Alex Scherff surrendered four runs – all in the second inning – on four hits, three walks, a hit by pitch, and a wild pitch over five frames. Marcos Lantigua gave up one hit and whiffed two in three innings of relief. Juan Florentino allowed two hits while striking out a pair in the ninth.

Pedro Castellanos collected two singles and was hit by a pitch in four appearances. Ricardo Cubillan contributed two singles in four trips; knocking in the game-tying run in the ninth. Lorenzo Cedrola laced a triple and the game-winning single in five sessions. Everlouis Lozada singled in his only excursion but was replaced in the third (speculation: possibly due to injury suffered when thrown out at third in the first) by Frankie Rios who struck out twice in three forays. Victor Acosta and Isaias Lucena each had one hit in four at-bats – Acosta with a fourth inning bomb – and score the tying and winning runs in the ninth. Cole Brannen also singled once in four trips and added a stolen base. Marino Campana collected two base on balls, the second one intentional, in four matchups. Kervin Suarez suffered four frustrating forays.

PawSox win a wild one in Buffalo, 9-8 in 10.

Boxscore

Steven Wright tossed 82 pitches in five innings and four batters, yielding five runs (four earned) on six hits, a walk, and two hit by pitches; whiffing four. Wright was sharp through the first four innings, giving up only two singles. In the fifth, he gave up two singles and a HBP after the lead batter of the inning reached on a throwing error by 3B Jordan Betts. Wright then gave up two singles, a HBP and a walk to begin the sixth before being pulled. He was followed by Marcus Walden who gave up a 2-RBI double to begin his outing before setting the next three down – a ground out allowing the 3rd inherited runner to come home. Walden gave up an infield single in the seventh, but nothing more. But, like Wright, he left the bases loaded with no outs as he gave up two consecutive singles and a walk to start the eighth. Walden struck out two over his 2+ innings. Robby Scott was able to induce two ground balls – to short and third – which resulted in force outs at second base and a runner scoring. He then gave up a single before striking out Danny Jansen to end the eighth. Ryan Brasier came in to pitch the ninth, and immediately had a runner at second due to an error by 2B Chad De La Guerra. A bunt single put runners at 1st and 3rd... and it became 2nd and 3rd as Gift Ngoepe took second on defensive interference. Brasier struck out Jason Leblebijian for the first out... then got Tim Lopes to rocket a liner to centerfielder Rusney Castillo which ended the inning as Castillo nailed Roeman Fields at the plate for a double play. Brasier also pitched the 10th, an was able to get two fly balls (which moved the ghost runner from 2nd all the way home) and a strikeout to secure victory.

Rusney Castillo crushed three doubles in five at-bats. Aneury Tavarez and Jordan Betts each thumped two hits in five jaunts; Betts with a double and a bomb. Mike Olt and Dan Butler each notched a homer and a walk in five matchups; Olt with a solo moonshot in the sixth, Butler blasting the game-winning two-run bomb in the 10th. Jeremy Barfield bopped a single and was hit by a pitch in five appearances. Mike Miller has a walk, a hit by pitch, and a stolen base in four trips. Ramos Flores flied a sacrifice in five forays. Chad De La Guerra had a miserable day, going 0-for-5 and collecting two errors.
