On paper, this looks like a good matchup for the Yankees.

CC has been sharp so far. 1.47 ERA. 1.04 WHIP. We've talked about it before, but dating back to last season CC really seems to have figured out how to pitch with reduced stuff. He goes up against a Pirates team that has lost three straight and is missing probably their best player in Starling Marte.

On the mound for the Pirates is Tyler Glasnow. A heralded prospect, he's had some ups and downs so far. Eight strikeouts in just over five innings pitched is good. Seven walks and an ERA over 12, less so.

Of course the season is very young and stats don't mean much. The Yankees are on the road against a young pitcher who can strike impatient hitters out. I think CC will be fine, but expect a close game dependent on how patient Yankees hitters can be.

Glasnow was terrible in his first start and the first inning of his second one, then he settled down for four innings or so.

I guess Holliday will sit this whole series, since he didn't play an inning in the field in spring training? Haven't heard anyone discuss that yet.

Holliday sat out two games over the past weekend with a stiff back so maybe rest isn't a bad thing.

2 men on, 2 out in top of first, but Judge just looks at strike 3

1st and 3rd, no out and CC is being abused

Finally an out, but it's 2-0 with 2 on, and a DP grounder stanches the bleeding

This was very low, should have been ball 4.

Torreyes dribbler single up the middle with 2 out, which brings CC to the plate...

I am behind, and the Mercer HR was obviously blasted, but the hits after that were a bunt, a two hop grounder through the 5 hole and an infield dribbler, not exactly abused.

Osuna triple and Bell HR into Left makes it 4-0, and that looked like abuse to me...

Bird missed a game-tying 3 run HR by just a few feet there, he blasted that.

You really need your middle of the lineup guys to come through in these NL games, third chance here for Judge with runners on.

Man, the third base coach went about 75 feet down the line trying to get Judge to score there.

Carter pinch-hits for CC, who did an OK job getting through 5 without his best stuff after being hammered early (with help from Judge).

Might be time to sit Gardner down and let Hicks play regularly.
