NY comes home for 10 games after an abbreviated 2-2 road trip, they need to get on a roll at home because the two weeks after that are very tough (@LAA, @HOU, BOS, CLE). The first two are against the remnants of the Marlins, Severino against our old buddy Caleb Smith, 6:30 start time. It has been raining most of the day here today and will keep going through lunch time tomorrow, but it looks pretty clear after that as of now.

Gleyber has played five games in a row at 3B in AAA and can safely come up starting Thursday, he is hitting .385 and OPSing .969. Andujar is probably going down for a while for the extra year of control no matter what at this point, but hopefully he can have a strong final two games for now at least.

Speaking of sweeps, the Phillies just swept Florida and Tampa three games apiece. Got some tanking going on in Florida.

Stop speaking of sweeps, it's a two game series that hasn't started yet.

At least we'll know who to blame when they lose.

Jace Peterson is inexplicably back and active for tonight. Last week he was called up, DFAd after a day or two, cleared waivers, chose free agency over going back to Scranton, and now he is re-signed, pretty odd with Hicks now back. Hopefully there's not another shoe still to drop about someone being hurt we don't know about...

so far today we started with snow/ice at dawn that changed into sleet, that morphed into pea sized hail for several hours around noon, basically raining slush and has now petered out with one more light dusting. The good news is the winds stayed light, meanwhile next door in Vt. they are getting 30-45 mph wind with gusts in the Green Mountains in the 60's this evening, from which we expect to be sheltered by that range.

It's sunny and mid-fifties in NYC currently, although with some crazy winds at times.

They're 7-7 so far. I blame Crow and Shiner for six of the losses. Bullpen for the other.

Walker and Wade both sit against the lefty:

    Gardner LF
    Judge RF
    Stanton DH
    Gregorius SS
    Sanchez C
    Hicks CF
    Austin 1B
    Andujar 3B
    Torreyes 2B

Have to get more than 1 here. Smith is giving us every opportunity to blow this open in the first.

Andujar somehow looks more nervous up there than Smith does. I really haven't been impressed by him this April.

Smith up to 40 pitches, this is his last batter if he doesn't get him.

Smith is at 40 pitches this inning. The record?

    61 pitches - Steve Trachsel - Chicago Cubs - 1997

That wasn't a bad AB, no one actually hit Smith well all inning.

Gardner flipped an opposite field single, walk, walk, Didi pop up, Sanchez infield hit, Hicks pop up, Austin walk, Andujar deep fly out.

Andujar probably had the best contact all inning, although Sanchez hit his hard also.

I will say this, it really is starting to feel like this lineup is coming together nicely. They haven't underperformed by any stretch, but they certainly have room for improvement. It looks like all of the main starters are having the types of at-bats we expect them to.

Definitely, Hicks helps and Bird, Drury and Torres will really solidify the bottom half.

    Also, I like good Severino.

That was Judge's 60th HR in his 197th career game, new MLB record. The previous record was McGwire, 202 games.

Didi's 12th BB of the year, tied for the AL lead. He had 25 all of 2017.

    That's a great Didi stat.

Jeez, playing the Marlins is really good for your offense.

    Bye, Caleb.

That popup falling could happen to most teams, the subsequent 'throw' is a much more rare sight in the major leagues.

66 pitches for Severino through 4, would be nice to get 7 out of him.

Thank goodness ESPN is doing extensive lookins of this game as my puter decided to have an audio failure and it took me 20 mins rummaging around to find out that my Boston Acoustics audio system was the culprit: one of the power glitches in the last few hours screwed up the digital input and it needed to be power cycled to turn back on...meanwhile we are beating the shit out of the AA team that masquerades as MLB

11-0 and if we were doing well at the plate it should be about 15-0

If Jeter didn't want to see this in person, how come Mattingly has to show up?

Aaron Judge has just hit his fourth homer of the season. It's the 60th of his career. He's now the fastest player, from a games played standpoint, to hit 60 homers. He did it in 197 games. Mark McGwire had been the fastest to 60. He did it in 1988 in his 202th game. - ESPN
