Northcut was projected as a 3rd-round talent in the 2018 draft, ranked the 69th best prospect by BA and 81st by MLB, but his commitment to Vanderbilt gave him the perception of being a tough sign. The Sox selected him in the 11th round and signed him for 3rd round money ($565K).

Northcut was a two-way player in HS, splitting time between third base and pitcher (he can throw in the low-90s), but he'll be developed strictly as a position player. He possesses good hit and power tools, and was named Gatorade's Ohio Baseball Player of the Year.

Northcut will report to the GCL Red Sox, where he'll play alongside 1st round pick Triston Casas.

Northcut's off to a good start in the GCL: .307/.388/.453 for an OPS of .842 in 75 AB. 8 2B, 1 HR and 14 RBI. 21 Ks for 25% K-rate in 83 plate appearances, so ideally that would come down a little, but considering it's his first month or so in professional ball, I'm not alarmed.
