    Jaylen great defensive play.
Hubie: Give Harden a lot of credit.

No he has been worthless. I hope he walks and we turn the reigns over to the Jays. They were the reason it’s this close.

Unfortunate last minute, particularly because no one on Houston appeared to be capable of scoring once Harden fouled out.

They showed some heart today, though.

Should have traded Kyrie for Jrue, Payton and Randle.

Real glad Tatum spent all summer working on step back long 2s instead of his below average ball handling.

I would absolutely love PJ Tucker on this team. Imagine him and Smart on defense at the end of games.

    7 for 11, 24 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists doesn’t look bad.

The better team won. Celtics dig themselves too big a hole in the first half. Good showing in the 2nd half but they have to be able to do it for 48.

About 10 minutes of hustle and defense late. That’s it.

Jaylen and Baynes need to be starting over Morris and Smart.

At least the team finally showed some heart/pride tonight.

Going to look at the positives here:
Brad finally adjusted and only played Morris 18 mins and he was basically stapled to the bench in the 4th.
Other than the 3 missed FTs, Rozier looked good.
Had a lot of heart and defensive intensity last half of 3rd Quarter and 4th Quarter.

There are things to build on here. They need to put it together for a whole game

Morris shouldn’t start another game this season. He’s regressed. I mean, he regressed about 12 games ago.

It’s time to recognize that this team is poorly coached. I don’t want to hear, “what can he do?!” anymore. He can coach. You know, do his job. If we didn’t have all the prior years of Brad, I’d be ready to give up on him. Although this is the first time he’s had a team with such high expectations.

The takeaways from this game are as follows:

-Houston is clearly more talented than the Celtics but if the C's played a perfect game, they could hang with them. Shooting less than 30% from three doesn't qualify as that and missing seven FTs (btw, Boston shot as many FTs as Houston) doesn't either.
-The C's couldn't solve the Capela/Harden/CP3 PnR early. The Rockets were consistently good at getting bigs switched on to Harden and he absolutely torched them. Horford is good at positioning but has no way of hanging with Harden on an island. This was straight up abuse.
-To that end, the C's continue to have trouble rotating and helping. There were several early sequences where Harden or Gordon got by their man and may as well have brewed a pour-over before taking it to the rim. Complete breakdown on D.
-As much as I love Baynes, he got completely roasted on defense and just didn't have his legs on offense. This was not an optimal game for him to return
-Anyone badmouthing Jaylen Brown at this point has not paid attention to the stats or watched games. He is not a headcase. He may be getting yelled at by his teammates but he has been one of the best players on the team for a while now. Brad finally gave a nod to this down the stretch. Morris should be back on the bench for the rest of the year. Brown is the future for this team but he is also better in the present.
-The Celtics just don't have the scoring to hang with the league's best teams. Between no clear 1A or number two player, their defensive breakdowns and what appears to be chemistry issues, Boston will have be pretty much flawless to win a series against a top team. Given Kyrie's ongoing comments - which are likely taken out of context but don't help regardless - Ainge may have some serious rocket surgery to do this summer with the roster.
-Tatum needs to work on finishing around the rim this summer. He is awful at it, even if he is getting fouled. Great players finish through contact and he isn't there yet.

To both points, it looked like they couldn't solve it simply because the effort was not there. Rockets did a lot of the same in the 2nd half and the Celtics were much more effective defending it, primarily due to effort. There were some different players on the the court, and the effort from the players who were playing in both halves improved.

To mix 2 threads into one...Even if in theory we may be "better with Kyrie," each game that passes I am getting closer and closer to the "Better off without Kyrie" side.

This team doesn’t know where the switch is.

Dysfunctional team both offensively and defensively.

Discouraging loss because the team did not compete.

Ok, I will bite. What could Brad do differently? Is he not getting enough open looks for the team because the data says otherwise. They shot 28.6% from three. What about defense? I suppose he can bench players for not rotating and helping but that really only works with younger guys. Morris is likely fuming for Stevens sitting him at the end there anyway. My view is that this is a roster construction issue and not a coaching one. However, I would love to hear what "he can coach" means.

Agreed that one (more minor) issue is that Tatum hasn’t stepped up to be a true second scorer. And they need him to be at least on the many nights Hayward isn’t back to being one yet
