The fuck is Millbury talking about with a "trap game?"  They outplayed them and fucking hate each other.  This was the opposite of a trap game.

I credit the B's on this one. 3rd game in 4 nights after traveling out West. They were clearly fighting the puck and out of synch, and trapped in a special teams fest, but they stuck too it and got a point. Could've easily mailed this one in.

he thinks they're looking ahead to the big Stanley cup final rematch, but yea, I highly doubt they are overlooking their biggest rival

Closed the game strong and carried the play in OT. Not much more to ask for except better puck luck.

This. They played extremely hard tonight but didn't get much puck luck. If this is considered an off night, we don't have much to worry about.

I'll be totally honest..... if I was tuning into hockey for the first time, and the game happened to involve the Montreal Canadiens, I would be hard pressed to find myself wanting to tune into another game.

What an awful team to watch play the sport. Between Subban throwing both hands in the air after punching Boychuk in the back of the head, Murray whining like a bitch after a clear hold (assuming he was whining because the B player didn't dive), and all the other whining and diving, not to mention Plekanic taking a free shot with his stick at Boychuk's face as OT expired.... I just really don't enjoy these games.

It'll be nice to get to watch the B's play a real team on Thursday.

Subban's theatrics send me over the edge. After the Marchand high-stick, a no doubt about it penalty, he lies on the ice holding his face for a minute wincing to be sure to sell it. The refs arm was up immediately, there was no question about it. Subban than hops up and plays the full 2 minutes on the PP. On the Boychuk fiasco, again a legit penalty on Boychuk (should've been matching, but whatever), Subban has got to do the hands in the air flailing around so that everyone in the rink is aware. Just fucking play hockey. He has all the talent in the world, is a top-10 defenseman and arguably the best skater in the game. But he brings all this bullshit to the table that is absurd. Leave the theatrics at home.

Also, can we talk about how on the Marchand high stick he actually grabbed Marchand's stick and pulled it up and hit himself on the face with it? Did I see that right?

He took another dive later against the boards with Marchand, but dove into Marchand's legs in the process. The dirty dive.

I had fun at the game. Montreal seemed to just be hanging on to that one goal lead. The Bruins definitely were missing that extra bit of energy to finish, but I still liked the way they played. I expected it to turn into a penalty fest a bit given it was the last time in the regular season (and likely season) that they will meet. That Miller fight was fantastic. His right hook on Moen after he stumbled a bit was right in front of me and awesome. It would be way more awesomer if Moen didn't stumble off the ice. 10 years ago I'm taunting Moen and laughing at him as he got KO'd. Now? It lessened the enjoyment of the moment for me. I loved the right cross, but I didn't like him having to be guided off the ice.

Still. Milller... Beastly. I LOVE McQuaid, but this pretty much ends his career in Boston if Miller is willing to fight and can kick ass a bit.

In the end, fuck Montreal. I feel much more comfortable if they match up with them after seeing them play each other live tonight. The Bruins outshot them 20-6 5v5 tonight. If they stay out of the bullshit, they could sweep them in a 7 game series.

I'm watching Rocky IV.  I'm pretty sure there are no lasting effects.

Aaanywho, that was a sucky way to end it.  Was the 71 streak a true winning streak or just an undefeated streak?  To make a fair comparison, I guess you'd have to make this game and the other SO (the one they won) ties since that's what they would have been in ye olden hockey days.

Also, I have to give NBCSN a little credit.  By the end of the game, they were (gently) calling out Montreal for all the diving.

I thought Pierre was actually pretty great last night without being able to buddy up with Eddie and Doc. He was screaming for too many men and went nuts when the stick went on the ice. It felt a little better having a neutral announcer see what I was seeing.

I just don't understand after decades of playing that brand of hockey how the Habs still get the benefit of the doubt from the officials. The penalties evened out by the end but that's because they had to call those 2 obvious ones that the Habs still whined and carried on about. Plus they missed an obvious trip on Paille among other calls that could have gone either way.

Pierre's "they don't get power plays because they don't dive" comment floored me. I took back 2 things I'd said about him after hearing that.

I thought so as well, at least on slow-mo replay. Live, I thought it was a clear penalty on Marchand, but the replay showed otherwise. Possibly.

I'll echo cshea's comments on Subban above. The guy is incredibly talented. He can really play. I have no idea why he insists on acting like a jackass. If he knocked it off and changed sweaters he'd be an admirable player. Instead he's infuriating.

I just don't know how any hockey fan could root for Montreal.  If you're a fan of the game being played the right way, they play it the exact opposite.

It's crazy. This shit has been going on for so long now, though, that it really has become institutional. I wasn't around then, but if you go back and watch the tape, it seems to me that those old Canadien teams were full of hard-nosed guys that stood up for themselves. What they've become over the past couple decades, especially the last decade, is really pathetic. At least with someone like Marchand, B's fans recognize that he skates along the line (though he crosses it less now), but when it comes to Canadiens fans, they are just completely oblivious. I think it's like that thing where Roger Clemens actually believes he didn't take steroids. If you believe something for long enough, it becomes reality in your mind. I don't care if it presents a tougher matchup or if it would drain the team more, I want to face and kick the shit out of this team in the playoffs. Five games.

The silver lining of this is that the Habs got the special teams type of game they needed to beat the Bruins... and only won through a skill exhibition with a lot of luck and with the officials ignoring a lot of their infractions for the first two periods.  Montreal is a poor 5-on-5 team (0.90 F/A, 21st in the league), but they're above average on special teams - 4th in PK% and 12th in PP%.  Last night's game is the type of game they need every night to win in the playoffs, which I just don't see happening.
