Jesus, what a game!
Fuck. That sucks.
Germany still has a PP.
Good for Russia that Gusev showed up. Still plenty of time for zie Germans
Have to think 4 on 4 is going to be advantage Russia. Tougher to jam them all up.
Time for a Kovy snipe.
I have a feeling this isn't going to last long.
Wow, thought that was the end. Not sure how he saved it.
Would have been sweet
Russian mistake for Germany win, or a touch of class by Russia for the Russia win.
Do they go to a shootout after 20 minutes, or do they continue with 20 minute periods?
Penalty on Germany. Probably not a good thing. 4 on 3 will be wide open.
Fucking clinic by the Russians on the power play ends it.
Whew. International peace can breathe.
Congrats to the Russians for now having as many gold medals this Olympics as they do athletes busted for doping.
Shootout. Was afraid Russia was going to Kariya it
77 with a snipe.
But it's the two that anyone over there or anywhere cares about.
Terrific tournament for the Prussians.
Sturm is boss
Does Kenny not know this one doesn't count in the books, per IOC?
FYI, Raymond Kaprizov (GMWG + 3 ast tonight) is only 20
Exactly. It's the whole joke about Michigan not caring about going 1-10 as long as the win was against Ohio State.
There's your handshake line before the medal ceremony.
Datsyuk joins the Triple Gold Club.
Norway needs to win the women's cross country 30k to top the medal table.
This is the 4th different name they've competed under in the last 30 years. They're used to it.
Looks like it will go better than this one
Tretiak getting some love from the Russian crowd.
So the lady handing out 1/2 the medals is part of the German federation? She was hugging the Germans and shaking hands with the Russians.
The crowd and players are singing the Russian anthem over the Olympic one.
That was awesome. F the IOC
Given that the Russian government sponsored a state doping plan I guess it is fortunate for them that the punishment they received was as light as it was. That being said can't believe that the impossible almost happened. Under two minutes to play, the lead and a powerplay to boot. I thought we were going to see the biggest upset since 1980. Congrats to Germany, they were the story in hockey!
Don't feel too sorry for poor Russia.
Too bad, Russia was the better team, but Germany absolutely blew that game. wtf was Seidenberg doing on the dump in on the poweplay with over a minute to play. All it accomplished was to give Russia the puck, and the opportunity to pull the goalie. Just an absolutely epic brainfart
Yeah, they should've banned the team entirely. F em.
That is *such* a great picture. When do you ever see the losing finalists in any sport celebrating like that, let alone players who lost a gut-punch game in overtime? In a nutshell, that shows just how much the Germans overachieved in this tournament.
I'm just glad I got to chronicle part of their journey to the finals - I called three of their games, and two of their overtime wins (against Norway and Sweden), and they were probably my third favorite story of the Olympics, behind Ester Ledecka and John Shuster.
Why punish innocent people like Yevgenia Medvedeva and others? The whole thing is a joke. The stuff the East Germans did in the 70's was so much worse that what Russia did.
