the post game interview with Marco Strum and Pierre was simply awesome. When it ended Marco just burst out in emotion and was smiling, laughing and gave Pierre a huge hug. Pretty awesome to see
Forget it, he’s rolling.
Only got to watch the first and a little bit of the 2nd but I felt everything turned around when Rene Bourque took a face-off violation delay of game penalty which gave Germany a 2 man advantage and led to their first goal. Could not believe Bourque was that careless. That being said I would say that playing for a Bronze medal if you asked at the beginning of these games would have been as good as expected. It does not take the sting of losing to Germany. As far as the worst Canadian performance overall , that is not true. Canada has won more medals at these games than in any other Winter Olympics in history. Can't let the disappointments in curling and hockey cloud that fact.
The Toronto Star was not very kind to their performance. https://www.thestar.com/sports/olym...ens-semifinal-hockey-thriller-to-germany.html
The National Post was equally as critical. http://nationalpost.com/sports/olym...ermany-upsets-canada-in-mens-hockey-semifinal
This is like a "nation's tears" level of weak bitterness.
As for worst week. Canada is 2nd in the medal count. If our NHL guys lost then, that would be bad.
These guys list by taking too many penalties. Canada hockey announcers make YES look understated and neutral, so we almost are asking for it. I think 4 years ago I said we needed to enjoy it while it lasted since we are just one of the hockey nations now.
One thing that has stood out in men's hockey is with the exception of the Korea games the rink has been mostly empty.
I assume you're only referencing the hockey and maybe the curling, but Canada has done very well at these games and as mentioned, 2nd in medal count. Also the best medal count we've ever had.
There has been some disappointing things, but you can say that for most countries
Calling this the worst week in Canadian sports history would be like calling 2013 the worst October in Red Sox history. I get some Americans are really happy to have finally beaten the Canadians at hockey, but this is nothing too bad for us. The USA has far more resources, more kids playing hockey etc. It is matter of time until they have the upper hand, and should have it already, and looking at world juniors maybe they do.
As a Canadian sports fan this is fantastic. I remember as a kid Canadian olympic heroes didn't even win medals. in 1976 we won one gold one of three medals at the winter Olympics. Then we went with totals of 2, 4,5, medals. We are only country to host and not get a gold and we did it twice in 76 and 88. Canada used to be the Cleveland Browns of the Olympics.
TV sign off used to play "oh Canada" and show a guy that won a silver medal high jumping. Go to 1:18 of this video. I mean a silver fucking medal.
Marci Sturm is a Bruins cult hero. He scored the GWG in the definitive game that made me a Bruins fan again. He also makes a fucked up face upon scoring. You’re goddamned right I’m thrilled he’s in the gold medal game. Sturm Face is something for a reason. And now I’m watching Game 6 highlights on dafoomie for the next however long.
As for hating on Canada, well, sucks to suck in your two best sports. Better luck in the Stanley Cup. Fuck Canada. Scott’s a dick.
Edit: Roman Hamrlik still has nightmares about getting worked over three times by Sturm in one shift. I’m very happy now. Thank you all you sensitive maple syrup salesmen.
Yeah we’re just not insufferable about hockey. We’re insufferable about a lot of things. But goddamnit, hockey is not one of them!
Guys, just so you know, we tend to be a bit dry in our humor (or in your case...humour).
I love everything about Canada. I've visited there over a dozen times, coast to coast. Gone to games in Toronto and Montreal. Skiing in Whistler. Beautiful country, great cities, friendly people. But as a Bruins fan, I've taken a ton of shit. I had to fly into Montreal the day after game 7 in 2008 and had to watch them all celebrate. So yes, we are going to have a little fun when the US beats Canada in hockey and curling on the same day.
Oh, and I didn't think it was really the worst day in Canadian Olympic history, but did see an article in the Star (yeah, I know...) that said it might be, so take that for what its worth.
3 goals in 31 seconds.
Chris Kelly scores to make it 2 to 1.
It was definitely tongue in cheek with "worst week ever" but 3 of the bigger events (is curling big? it should be) was a rough time even with all the down-ballot success.
wacky 3rd period.
Kudos to Canadian captain and former Bruin Chris Kelly,in his last competitive game, in leading Team Canada to the Bronze Medal with his 2 goals and excellent defensive play, He says he is now retired.
Odd the Bronze Medal ceremony being done now with only Team Canada on the ice, what`s with that.
I can now add "Olympic Medalist" to accomplishments of my former students.
Anyway, my main point is how shitty Canada used to be in the Olympics.
Interesting that after everyone was ready to lynch Brule yesterday that no comments or even a penalty handed out to the Czech player who deliberately kicked Derek Roy in the face with his skate. If you watch it plainly obvious not an accident.
It ain`t Gold but it`s better that nothing, just ask the Czechs, Sweden, Finland and several other countries.
Honestly, come to the east coast someday. I regularly wear Bruins gear around town, and only occasionally get noticed for it, and even then, it’s usually a shout-out from a fellow Bruins fan.
Let's go OAR
OAR comes out in red, nice.
Holy shit. Russia with a goal with a half second left in the period to go up 1-0.
Nice momentum into the locker room.
That last 10 seconds seemed like it took 30.
Not gonna lie. I find it incredibly hard to root for anyone in a game involving Russia v. Germany.
Those wacky Germans tie it up!
Well if they beat Sweden, Canada, Russia, back to back to back they will have earned it, no NHL'ers or not.
Diamond-making time for Russia
Fucking amazing piece of forechecking by the Russians leads to that goal. They would just not let the Germans clear the zone.
THE GOOSE IS LOOSE
That was fast
Blitzkrieg by the germans
German goalie actually flinched and turned his head away from the puck as it went flying by his ear into the goal.
And now Germany matches about 10 seconds later. WTF
For international security, I think we need an OAR win.
For the sake of their own security, OAR better win. Hate to come home to a pissed off Putin.
Is that our old Bruin friend, Seidenberg?
Datsyuk needs to be triple shifted
You just noticed that?
Russian GK is ass
LOL, I haven't really been listening to the game. I don't know 80% of these guys..
One hell of a Molotov cocktail coming up
Germany should be ragging the puck this whole PP.
And that’s why.
German one isn't much better. Wow...
