I dunno, a third round pick (basically) for a guy coming off a massive knee injury seems a bit much.
I don't understand why the Jets added a 6th? Bridgewater is a free agent at the end of this year. The Saints can keep him, or they let him walk. If he walks, other teams may have enough interest where they get a 3rd or 4th round comp pick.

The Saints have now traded their 2019 1st and 3rd round picks. The 3rd in this deal, and the 1st to move up from 27th to 14th with Green Bay to select Marcus Davenport.

Edit: I think the Jets could have waited longer to see if there were QB injuries and get the 2nd back they used in order to draft Darnold. Throwing in a 6th to get a 3rd is a pretty good return since they're sold on Darnold starting the opener.

Maybe they don’t want to carry 3 QBs and maybe they value getting his contract off the books.

If he left for a comp pick instead of getting it in this year's draft it would be in next year's draft. Also there is a lot of risk with him so I wouldn't feel comfortable counting on a 3rd or 4th round compensatory pick. A 6th round pick is worth a fraction of a 3rd rounder even accounting for who owns the picks in this scenario. That's a huge jump in positioning and talent. If the Jets think Darnold is ready this is a good return - in agreement there.

Yeah not real sure on the Davenport pick or logic at all here. They killed last years draft but not so sure on this years.

Or they could have waited and he injures himself again. Take the 3rd if you want to trade him and start Darnold. I like the move.

Great points, thank you.

I'm not a big fan of Bridgewater, but I think someone will pay him. He's always going to be injury prone, throws like Philip Rivers with average arm strength, but he has the intangibles (intelligent, accurate thrower, charismatic, etc.) Out of all this, the Saints are really taking an odd approach to the 2019 draft.

Will get you substantially disciplined, your contract terminated, and possibly get you bustled out of the league:
- Trusting a financial advisor who happens to be insider trading
- Being generally aware of possible tampering with footballs
- Smoking weed as anxiety management or pain management from all the beating your body takes
- Players publicly but non-disruptively protesting police brutality
Only two of those things do what you say. One of which was a one off.

And Kendricks sure as shit seemed to be taken advantage of when he was handing over cash envelopes and texting about “cheesesteaks” while making a couple mil based off tips from a friend in a brokerage account he deliberately hid away from his actual, certified financial advisor. Poor fucking guy. Sometimes stupid people do stupid shit and shouldn’t have pity heaped upon them because others don’t care enough to actually learn about what they did. This was as cut and dry a case of insider trading as you can get. You don’t immediately plead guilt if you’re a pawn.

Aaron Donald is signed.

Long time coming: Rams and Aaron Donald finalizing a record 6-year, $135 million, including $87 million guaranteed, per source. Richest defensive deal in NFL history.

Donald now tied to LA for next seven years. And he will be ready for Monday night opener vs. Raiders.

The "richest (insert type of deal) deal in NFL history thing is boring - the cap goes up all the time so of course we get one of these every year.

Id be more interested if they had an inflation independent way of measuring these contracts. % of salary cap? It gets complicated with the guarantees I suppose.

That’s why you only pay attention to the guaranteed portion, since the rest can always be played around with or restructured. $87M is a big number for a non-QB.

Monster contract. Good luck with Mack, Raiders!
Better luck to any team wishing to trade for him. Mack is going to get what’s he going to get — there is no purchaser’s discount for a team acquiring him in a trade.

So take Donald’s contract as some kind of marker — then add two first-round draft picks to the purchase price.

Because of this, I highly doubt he gets traded. Only makes sense for a team ready to win now who is willing to make a GFIN move. A team like the Jets would be dumb to make the move since their picks will be too valuable and Mack would be 30 by the time they’re ready to win. Same thing applies for other teams with cap space like Browns, Indy, etc. Niners make sense but Oakland would never deal with them.

Team that has cap space which is ready to make a leap is Houston. Having a defense with Watt, Mack, Clowney, and Mercilus would be downright unfair. Load up your team while Watson is on a rookie contract and while Watt still can play, as he’ll be done soon. Would be a ballsy but great GFIN move for them.

Agree. Would never see a move like this in NE the past 19 years or for the foreseeable future.

That doesn’t mean it’s not the right move for another team in the right circumstances.

Edit. Teams, plural? Stay tuned —

Raiders and Bears have agreement in place for a Mack trade per Schefter.

“Sources to ESPN: Raiders and Bears have an agreement in place to trade Khalil Mack to Chicago. Still working through it, but Raiders now planning to send Mack to Chicago.”

What a fantastic trade for the Raiders getting two first round picks from a team that almost definitely won't make the playoffs this year and we'll see about next year.

Do the Pats have The Bears 2nd this year?

Damn that hurts the 2nd rounder. Oh well.
Might hurt it a little but they’re still in a division with Rodgers, a loaded Vikings team, and what should be a competitive Lions squad. Trubisky is by far the worst QB in the division so we’ll see. The defense should be very good but I’m not sure their offense will be good enough to take advantage of it.

Some new weapons and a new coach / system. Goff looked like absolute dogshit his rookie year then the Rams exploded last year. Not saying it will be the same thing but the Bears could be pretty good.

That’s obviously the model. But it will be tough to pull off in a division with Rodgers, Cousins, Stafford. We will see. Hopefully Matty P does us a solid twice.

This is a Khalossal trade. Can you I go with Khalossal? Yes, yes I can.

This makes the Bears a .500 team and it's a lot to give up. But Mack is a game changer. This might matter next season, if not for the fact that Trubisky isn't good.

One of only two Raiders fans on here I think.

Expected this but still shocked. Gruden is betting his entire run at the helm on this. My personal theory is he wants to rebuild the defense to time out when Brady/Belichick are out of the league.

My biggest fear is the damage to the locker room.

Bills have cut Corey Coleman. I wonder if Bill will put in a waiver claim on a sure-fire 1st round talent.
I cant see it but agree re the talent. He washed out because he couldn't grasp the buffalo offense.qui kly.enough. the patriots offense has challenged many better receivers with much more time

This is an interesting definition of talent. I’d agree 100% if you said he has elite 1st round measurables and athleticism but as far as talent I’d say that he sucks. He has produced two mediocre years in Cleveland and had two teams quit on him on a month.

Great athlete, elite speed but apparently poor football skills. I don’t think that equates to talent. Seems like a case where a guy thrived in college due to simply being a better athlete then the competition. But when he moved up to a level where everyone is a great athlete he does not have the skills and talent to be successful. I think it’s a hard pass on Coleman

I don't disagree, but fwiw, you could say many of these things about Corarelle, too

Seems pretty fair to me, assuming the second 1st rounder isn't in 20 but in 21. Which of course would be the draft where you think anyone with eligibility would stay away from due to the lockout.

Is Mack also agreeing to an extension? I guess they can franchise him, but what’s to stop the next holdout?

Luke Falk cut. Would be an interesting practice squad target. Can’t see Danny Etling being a road block.

Maybe the rest of the Mack return is contingent on what he agrees to sign for?
Bears get: Khalil Mack, a 2020 second-round round pick and a conditional 2020 fifth-round pick.

Raiders get: 2019 first-round pick, 2020 first-round pick, 2020 third-round pick, 2019 sixth-round pick.
