if this is the case just roll my whole amount forward....i am in for this - definitely feel that more than 1st place in the final standings should get something more

    I am also in - I am guessing I won $25 so I would owe $125.
Would we get any keepers? I am going to miss Kyle Stanley carrying my team.

I just realized my math was off but I agree the balance should go to first place.

    7 tournaments $350
    4 bonuses $200
    2nd place $200
    3rd place $100
    1st place $150 (extra)

Edit: just realized I read your post wrong also but 350/200/100 seems fair.

I think I won exactly nothing all year, but in case I'm incorrect about that and I somehow squeezed something out of this year, you can go ahead and roll that over.

Next year cannot come quickly enough.

This year was a really strange year for me. I had a pretty terrible team, only won 1 week, but was 6th or 7th overall. Just a lot of awful weeks, lets start the round as I need to forget this year.

Last year i tried to go back and find all the data of the previous years of this league.

I have found total dollar amounts won for all 5 years (can't believe this was year 5), with the exception of the first year I can only account for $1492 in payouts.

I also have everyone's point totals from 2017/2016/2013 - but I can't find 2015 and 2014 per person total points.

    Some interesting info.
    - 17 of us have done this every year

    Points it takes to win
    2017 - 312
    2016 - 327
    2015 - ?
    2014 - 316
    2013 - 307

CShea is the first 2 time winner.

Over the past 5 years total winnings (top 3 most)
    Cshea - $1475
Vegas - $1025 (may have been helped by an extra $500 kicked in by JohnMD in 2015)
    BostonBeerBelly - $900

Top 3 least won who have done it for 5 years - Thanks for your charity!
    DaveS - $125
    Dan1864 - $150
    TeddyKGB - $225

For the years I have all data on points (2017/2016/2013) - Top 4 in total points
    BostonBeerBelly - 860
    CShea - 816
    EZ - 809
    BMHH - 802

Total points for the league - this one surprised me how consistent this was.
    2017 - 4673
    2016 - 4574
2013 - 4639 (this was with 22 teams, only year not with 20)

I'm pretty sure I have the weirdest correlation of point total to win total. I seem to be really good at drafting boom or bust teams. I think 2 of the 5 years I've had close to the most wins but haven't finished anywhere near the top of the standings.

What are the individual win totals?

Unfortunately never kept track of wins per season, just points and dollars. Looking at it though it appears you have 7.5 wins over the 5 years, with as you stated at least one absolute bust of a season coming in with 128 points last year.

This year you were tied for the second most amount of money won, but came in 11th place in points overall.

Haven't looked at your past teams, but you may be drafting swing for the fence type of guys. Maybe guys that don't grind out playing 25-30 events a year and get lots of cuts, but the players who when they play well they win, not just place in the top 10.

That was my strategy last year, to try and find guys that played a lot and grinded it out. That didn't work out well.

I've also never drafted higher than middle of the draft, if I'm not mistaken. Getting one of the first few picks in the draft is an advantage. This year I picked dead last.

I wish I had kept even more data, I would really love to see what draft spots the top 3 finishers drafted from each year. I believe I looked into it a few years ago, and it was all over the place. To win this thing, you really need to hit a rising star in rounds 4-8 and your #1 pick has to not be a bust.

I would say every year between 5-10 first round picks end up being worth their draft spot, but it is real important you don't get a dud in the first round - like I did this year with Ryan Moore (awful pick)

I think grinders are a bit overvalued. They have limited ceilings. I try to load up on guys qualified into majors/WGC’s, even if they’re not regular Tour members, then grab a few of the grinder types or rookies later on.

I I had the 17th overall pick this year (out of 20), and finished 2nd overall. I'd be curious if anyone has ever finished higher with a lower pick. Sergio was my 1st pick, and his Major win was big, but he didn't do a whole lot after that. Leishman in round 2, and then Casey with the 56th pick were my two really good picks. Stricker, Streelman, and Lingmerth were all good contributors too, but Malnati and Stuard were basically shit.

Although going out on bottom is not the best way to do it, I really don't think I'll be up for continuing in this. Please keep that in mind if you're talking about starting earlier as i'm not sure if you'll need to fill my spot.

Hey guys, I’ll get the payments out this week. Sorry, I haven’t had a computer which has made it trickier to match up the amounts to the screen names to the addresses.

As to the revised season, let me confer with @Zomp and see what’s best. Also need to see if we can fill teddy’s spot (sorry to see you go teddy).

Says the guy who threatens to quit the league for good every season.

Zomp and I will figure something out and confirm with those who haven’t chimed in here that they’re ok with increasing the buy in.

If you want to go start your own league, feel free.

Well if I had Flawless's average draft spot...I may quit too!

Still trying to round out all the previous 5 years of data, but it looks like I may never get some of the info.

Average Draft Spot (past 4 years - missing the first year) - Only for the 17 guys who have done the past 4 years.

    Lupe - 5.75
    BMHH - 6.25
    CSHEA - 7
    DOTB - 7.5
    T4P - 7.75
    Vegas - 8
    Airborne - 8.75
    DaveS - 9.5
    Leon - 9.75
    Teddy - 10.5
    BBB - 11
    BigMike - 11.75
    Zomp - 13
    Average - 13.25
    EZ - 14.5
    Dan18 - 14.75
    Flawless - 16

Now that I found draft spots from the past 4 years.

    Highest Draft Spot to win.
Leon drafted in 8th to win in 2016

If anyone has anyway to grab old data please let me know.

    Missing
    - Draft order first year 2013
    - Total payouts of first year (found $1492 out of the $2200 total that year)
    - 2015 points by team
    - 2014 points by team (only have top 3 EZ, myself, and Cshea)

Here are my thoughts, personally, after looking at the schedule:
    • We increase the buy-in to $150/person (additional $1000 to play with)
    • We find a replacement for teddykgb (keeping us at 20)
    • We start the season with the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii (Jan 4th), which adds 4 tourneys +$200)
    • We make the Players pay as a major (+$50)
    • Make the 3 WGC events pay as a major (+$150)
    • We do the following payout (+$600)
      • 1st place - $400 (was originally $200)
      • 2nd place - $200
      • 3rd place - $100
      • Last place - $50 (another option is using it to make another tourney worth $100)
      • Highest point getter w/out weekly win - $50 (another option is using it to make another tourney worth $100)
    • That's a total of $1000 increases.
For the season start date, having a little bit of a break is good in my opinion. The Hawaii swing is really the "start" of the year and gets us going right at the beginning of the calendar year. The only challenge with that will be trying to complete the draft over the holidays, but we can start it at the beginning of December to give us plenty of time.

First things first though - is anyone against increasing the buy in to $150? Without agreement on that, this is all moot. I think we're all pretty kosher with that, but just making sure everyone is on board before figuring out how to split it up.

    Not going to quote.

    In for $150
I like the $50 for last place, but will fine with $50 going anywhere people want.
All other payouts are awesome, I always thought first place for total points was underpaid.

This really is a league most people don't get rich or lose a lot of money. Lot of parity.

Also - one more advantage to taking a break is to actually being able to discuss/vote on the rule changes that FL4WL3SS always brings up 2 days before the draft starts.

In the grand scheme of things you're probably right, but the way I've always looked at it is we mimic a PGA season. So for example, the money winner from tour doesn't get a bonus. The Fedex cup winner does though, and I think its usually between 9-10 million. When you consider a tournament win now is between 1.5 and 2 million, it lines up pretty well with what we do.

It was, but don't forget that the first place winner also is generally making the most money by virtue of winning a lot of weeks too. So it becomes a compounding issue if we weight it too heavily.

Definitely valid point, and hadn't looked at it that way.

I hope we can get everything squared away and do the draft early December. Anything past the 15th and it will get fairly difficult with the holidays.

I get it, I just think with the added payouts for WGC (x3), Players...and the higher payouts for the majors. Some teams could have a very top heavy team winning the big tournaments - say 3 of them and grab $300, but for someone who is grinding out the whole season you may have 3-4 weekly wins at $50 but be able to grab the total points for the year (which I think should be rewarded the most).

Interestingly the only year that the overall points winner didn't win the most money throughout the year was in 2016 when Leon won $200 in tournament money, and WBV won $225 (also Cshea won $200 in tournament money)

Really wasn't trying to say much more than I like the $400 payout for year end winner.

Would an option be to have a payout for the lowest aggregate ranking of all golfers on a team for $50.
For example, my team never wins but I end up with all 8 of my golfers in the top 100 at year end and when you add up the composite rankings I have the lowest number.
In other words, I drafted a good team, may or may not have won many tournaments but I was in contention most times.

I've read through the proposed changes and I like most all of them. Mostly, I want to second DotB's opinion here and say that the most important change is to start the season earlier. Also agree with bbb that the draft should run from Dec 1 to the 15th, if possible.

I did not see a response on rolling over the $ from @Dave Stapleton or @4 6 3 DP so I'll send you two the full amount back. For the rest, I will send payouts back based on a $150 fee for next year, as we are in agreement there.

@inJacobyWeTrust has offered to join the league to replace teddykgb, so we are still at our full 20 people.

I'll start a new thread about the rules for next year within the week, but I think we have enough agreement to close out this year for good. Nice work everyone.
