Cutler's Last Stand?
Jay Cutler is the perfect QB for a franchise that wants to tank but has to pretend to their fan base that they are actually trying to win.
Cutler to the Jets would be the Jetsiest thing ever. Please let this happen.
I'm sure Kristin Cavilliri is all sorts of psyched about a move to NYC.
Broadway Jay would own the city
This is oddly ok with me. Better than Geno, Fitzpatrick, or Petty.
Bring on Smoking Jay Cutler

Jets would like to deal for Siemian but will look hard at Jay Cutler if no trade with Denver.

Judge in Darrelle Revis hearing dismisses all charges.
I just don't know what the Jets are supposed to do to entice a player from New England, at this point, besides throw money at them (and, to be fair, that's more than enough for most guys).
I mean, joke about the cupcakes, but they were probably thanking their lucky stars it was Hightower's birthday so they could put up some kind of credible welcome-wagon bit. What the fuck else are they supposed to do? Tell him that they need him to "put them over the top?" "become part of a great tradition?"
It must be humiliating.
The Pats HAVE to bring Revis in for some cupcakes.

Darrelle Revis makes pitch to his hometown Steelers. Says playing for them "would be a dream come true."
He'll fit right in with Brady torching the rest of their secondary
Hightower could be doing the Jets a favor by stopping them from spending a ton of money they don't have.
The Jets goal is to suck in '17 and position themselves to win the Sam Darnold lottery..
Scam for Sam
As Darnold was a redshirt freshman last year, has there been any talk of him declaring after the upcoming season?
Will he be in the 2018 or the 2019 draft?
No cupcakes for the Jets. Cupcakes are for closers.
Pats could offer a 3rd
Here's the money quote:
One eyewitness simply said Wilkerson was “looking absolutely terrible.” When I pointed out that the defensive lineman has never been mistaken for Jack LaLanne, the person texted: “LOL He’s always looked terribly out of shape?”
2017 has $15m guaranteed on his salary. Jets can't part ways before 2018.
It's a far cry from the fearsome DL that once featured hungry Harrison, Wilkerson, and Richardson.
espn: The Jets were very interested in wooing Dont'a Hightower away from the division-rival Patriots. But whatever his physical revealed scared them away.
He has a tattoo of Bill Belichick's face inked in his ass cheeks.
This thread title needs the word "cupcakes" in it somewhere.
Why would he even take a physical before agreeing to a contract? I thought that only happened after coming to terms.
LOL Jets - so all we hear pre-signing is how much they love Hightower and how big of a contract they are going to give him, then only after he re-signs with the Pats we get stories about how concerned they were with his physical? This is like the "smear departing player on his way out of town" tactic taken to a whole new level.
(In any event even if the story is true I have much more faith in the Patriots medical staff, which has had five years to monitor and treat Dont'a, than I do with the Jets staff that gave him a single physical. Plus, you know, they're the Jets.)
The Twitter has Jets signing Clairborne (Dallas corner) for 1 year 5 million bucks. We need all the secondary help we can get so I like the deal. This guy can't stay healthy but maybe he's due (that's how it works, right???)
We're here to serve.
Getting veterans signed at short money/years is a wise strategy.
Despite what happened, I still "like" Mac & Bowles duo. We'll see how much patience Woody has, but those PSLs aren't selling themselves.
Isn't Woody sitting this one out in London?
That's sublime. Truly.
yeah it's good
Inspired title change - playoff form already!
Even mild mannered Mike Reiss can't resist a cupcake rim shot:
And well done on the thread title, well done....
Reiss' theory of single players: if you liked it then you should have put a ring on it.
Another interesting bit from Reiss' article:
Did You Know: With the Colts now checked off the list, the Patriots have made at least one trade with 30 of the other 31 teams in the NFL during Belichick’s tenure (2000-present). The one team the Patriots haven't struck a trade with under Belichick? The Jets, of course. The last trade the Patriots made with the Jets brought Belichick to New England.
Holy shit, that thread title is inspired.
Manish Mehta and Ron Borges are still arguing the Jets won that deal, I expect...
was it Manish or another Jets writer that recently went back to correct the article they wrote the day BB left town? It was pretty good.
Jets sign Josh McCown to a 1 year deal.
Didn't think it was possible for the Jets to downgrade at QB from Fitzpatrick. Well done.
I disagree. He is an upgrade. Bad move for tanking purposes IMO.

And just to put a bow on it, McCown gets $2M to make playoffs, $1.5M to make SB51, and $1.5M to win it
SB51. Alrighty. Can't believe how much these guys duck up tweets. Left it as duck.
Man, he should get a lot more than that if he makes SB51.
Well, tanking for one year doesn't really work that often in the NBA either...but what other options do they have? Plus there's no lottery to contend with so winning 3 games is a lot better than winning 6 or 7.
If you get a franchise QB it's worth it.
I'll take "unlikely to be earned incentives for $600", Alex
Or it's an accurate tweet and McCown has Master P as an agent.
Part of the problem is the same problem as the NBA - sometimes you get a Manning or Cam, but sometimes it's just a Stafford or Alex Smith, and sometimes it's a JaMarcus or David Carr or Tim Couch. The other problem is, now what? Indianapolis got a generational QB prospect in Luck, but they've struggled to put a consistent winner. Ditto Cam's Panthers. Peyton's Colts were a .500 team in his first four seasons. You put a franchise QB on a crappy team, and all you have is a mediocre team.
You want to get better? Get better. Get good players, develop, and retain them. Getting worse to get better is a backwards attempt to shortcut building a winner, and at the end of the day it only really buys you a lottery ticket.
This is just about the best move Mac could have made under the circumstances.
McCown throws 1.2 TD/GM as well as 1.2 INT/GM. This is a certain upgrade over Fitz, who killed the Jets over and over again with 0.86 TD/GM while allowing 1.2 INT/GM.
The only questions is whether the OL can keep him healthy for any length of time.
What do you call five guys yelling "Look out!"?
