Gillislee has a $3.5 dead cap hit this year. He salary actually goes down next year as it was 2-year front-loaded salary.

Gillislee is a 26-year old back that averaged 5.7 yards/carry as recently as last year (and the year before that too). Blount is enjoying a bit of a revival but Eagles aren't trading for Ajayi if they thought Blount was the answer.

Gillislee is not going anywhere and most likely neither Lewis nor Burkhead.
Gillislee doesn’t have a $3.5 dead cap hit if traded. He has zero signing bonus, there’s nothing to accelerate from future years. The $3.5mm you are referring to was the dead cap hit if he was cut before June 1st. It consisted of $2mm from a roster bonus and $1.5mm because his base salary is guaranteed. If he’s traded,the Pats don’t have to pick up the base salary. So trading Gillislee is $2mm of “dead” money, but its just a roster bonus that’s on this years cap if he stays or goes. His contract is actually trade friendly as trading him frees up modest cap space immediately from saved salary and LBTE game day active bonuses and there is no hit to next years cap.

Is he playing Thursday?
Seems awfully soon...maybe in a few simple packages?

edit: Unless BUF runs the same kind of offense that was run in CAR? Then maybe he would be a lot smoother in transition.

Steep price to pay for 1/2 season of Benjamin . Bills must really want to get to the playoffs even knowing they have no shot at reaching the Super Bowl.

I've been beating this drum since his rookie year but Benjamin gets overrated by counting stats because the Panthers/Newton force the ball to him. His career efficiency numbers are not good (though they're better this season). He drops too many passes, has trouble getting separation, runs sloppy routes, and he's had trouble keeping himself in shape. I don't think Carolina will miss him all that much.

Weird move for the Bills.

Apparently Cincy tried to trade McCarron to Cleveland but it fell through?

Bengals and Browns actually agreed to AJ McCarron trade at 3:55 pm, per source involved. Bengals approved trade to NFL, Browns did not.
The line is that similar to the Ravens or was it the Broncos (with a broken fax) a couple years ago, the Browns didn't make the deadline.

and
Grossi says that apparently the Browns were celebrating their trade and forgot to call in the deal before the deadline...

Although I haven't seen a report stating which picks specifically were to be included, I would guess the additional compensation is related to this:

"McCarron, taken in the fifth round of the 2014 draft, is in the final season of his rookie contract. However, the Bengals could retain his rights next season because he did not spend enough time on the active roster as a rookie to accrue a year toward free agency. An arbitrator will have to decide whether he is a restricted or unrestricted free agent in 2018."

Jeremy Lane failed his Houston physical so he's being sent back to Seattle. The trade is going through, but is now just for the picks.

That sentence makes no sense. Is it supposed to say "CB Jeremy Lane failed his physical. Texans trade Brown and a 5th in 2018 for a third round pick from seattle in 2018 and a second in 2019"?

Texans -> Seattle: Brown + 2018 5th
Seattle -> Texans: 2018 3rd + 2019 2nd

Mary Cabot seems to have the whole story here. Lots of choice quotes here, including this kicker:

Another said, "The Browns know how to execute a trade. If they had really wanted to make this deal, they would have.''

Several sources have told cleveland.com that the personnel department -- which values its draft picks very highly -- didn't want to make the trade in the first place,

Lots of speculation on Cleveland sports radio today that the coaching staff got the owner to agree to this deal only for the front office to sabotage it by screwing up the paperwork.

Maybe Paul Brown's descendants can sue to have the franchise change its name.
