Well they could do the deal now (at least that's my understanding) they'd just have to clear space in a later trade, prior to signing a FA.I saw that too. But as I and several others have pointed out, the Celtics can't trade for Butler and still have cap space for Hayward or Griffin unless they relinquish Crowder and Bradley (or IT). It could never have been Butler for #3 by itself. Doesn't work.
This suggests that the Celtics feel good about their chances with Hayward.
I love they were called the Bobcats here lol. This offseason officially got weird

The Atlanta Hawks have agreed to trade center Dwight Howard to the Charlotte Bobcats, source tell ESPN's The Undefeated.

Sources: Charlotte is sending Miles Plumlee, Marco Belenelli and 41st pick to Atlanta for Dwight Howard and 31st pick.
It was, yes. But the larger point was that the bloom is off D'Angelo Russell to the point that he wasn't bringing back a star either way. That was about moving Mozgov.
We don't know, but there's a big risk that once you drive a guy off the lot he loses a bunch of value unless he's really good as a rookie. And even if he performs well, there still has to be a fit. There needs to be a team that's trying to get younger and looking to move the right sort of guy and the salaries have to work.Ball hasn't even played a game yet. How can we have any idea what he could fetch in a year?
Atlanta takes on three years of paying bum-ass Miles Plumlee AND moves down ten picks to get rid of him.The hardest working man in the NBA, Dwight works his way out of town again.
That's the price? What would the Cs equivalent be? Marcus Smart, the Cs '18 pick and their 2nd rounders this year?Mark MedinaVerified account @MarkG_Medina 20m20 minutes ago
I'm told Lakers + Pacers currently at standstill on Paul George trade involving either Randle or Clarkson & 27th and 28th pick.
Mark MedinaVerified account @MarkG_Medina 19m19 minutes ago
Nonetheless, Pacers will continue to talk to teams. I'm told it's "highly likely" Paul George gets traded before the draft.
That it very interesting. Ball wouldn't have gotten by Kings/Suns to lakers at 5.This is interesting.

Lakers, per sources, engaged Sacramento in talks that would have sent the 2nd pick to the Kings for Sac’s two 1st-rounders (5 and 10) (1/2)

Lakers would have then packaged one of the Kings’ picks w/27 & 28 along w/player in offer to Indy for Paul George. But Kings said no (2/2).
Squashes any thought of 5 and 10 for 3.This is interesting.

So is it a given they take Ball at 2? If they are willing to trade down to 5, they must not want Ball that much. That it very interesting. Ball wouldn't have gotten by Kings/Suns to lakers at 5.
Man the NBA off season is amazing
Sorry, misread---you're right.Squashes any thought of 5 and 10 for 3.
I think every team in the league would trade getting Ball for getting Paul George and 1 of Fox/Smith. Doesn't really say much about where they value Ball compared to rest of prospects. So is it a given they take Ball at 2? If they are willing to trade down to 5, they must not want Ball that much.
One of the teams contacted was the Phoenix Suns, sources relayed to ESPN. A proposal of Jordan in exchange for veteran center Tyson Chandler and the team's No. 4 pick in the 2017 NBA draft was discussed, sources said.
The Suns, however, are believed to have balked at the overture.
And this likely signals the end of Paul Millsap in Atlanta.Atlanta takes on three years of paying bum-ass Miles Plumlee AND moves down ten picks to get rid of him.
Brian Geltzeiler mentioned this on NBA Radio today. He thought that DAJ is the only piece they can move to change the landscape since Paul and Griffin are FAs but he thought both would return.
I'd assume the Clippers wanted the 4th pick so they could get Paul George. The Clippers too.
Seriously. Finals over one week and it's still dominating the headlines, blogosphere and the Twitterverse. How fucking awesome is the NBA lately? They've basically broken the internet for the past week.
Clippers could always check in with the Mavs...
And somewhere in a dank club on the outskirts of Memphis, Chandler Parsons weeps...Clippers could always check in with the Mavs...

Ball be fallin. Gravity will not be denied. So is it a given they take Ball at 2? If they are willing to trade down to 5, they must not want Ball that much.
Millsap would be an excellent value signing if Hayward and Griffin go elsewhere, George's rental doesn't work, and Chicago prices itself out of the Butler market. Millsap and Horford have shown that they play well together. And this likely signals the end of Paul Millsap in Atlanta.

This is right out of a John Grisham preamble. With a supermodel on each of his arms awaiting year two of a 4/94M contract payments to begin come October.
Yes. And it's all good, fun headlines. Contrast that with the NFL where every month there is a suicide and some research has shown that all players have CTE. That league cannot die fast enough for me.Seriously. Finals over one week and it's still dominating the headlines, blogosphere and the Twitterverse.
Of course the NFL is coming off the greatest SB of all time and the NBA playoffs were a complete joke with zero drama after the 2nd round.Yes. And it's all good, fun headlines. I dunno about that. I thought it was pretty thrilling watching Tiny, DJ and the Celtics capture the #1 seed.Of course the NFL is coming off the greatest SB of all time and the NBA playoffs were a complete joke with zero drama after the 2nd round.
NBA might win the offseason but the product during the season is as boring as it gets unless you are a GSW fan.
The who now?Without the #1 seed, they don't get by the Bullets for the privilege of getting slaughtered by the Cavs.
Injuries happen. In that scenario it's anyone's gameThe interest in the mind numbing nba trade talk always surprises me. Golden State is winning the title next year. None of this really matters
True, but the NBA is a sport where winning an offseason championship can translate to multiple championships (not one, not two) down the road. I think it makes perfect sense to obsess over the NBA offseason. It's the other sports where you really are buying lottery tickets that the offseason talk is a bit silly (although I follow those too)The interest in the mind numbing nba trade talk always surprises me. Really? "Tiny" and "DJ" weren't signals for you?The who now?
