Well, except he isn't getting fired. You can't fire someone not under contract.
It does sound like a "You can't fire me, I quit!" situation. Then again it's rare for a coach to actually get to the end of his contract. If the Bengals made the playoffs I bet he would have gotten a new deal.

It's also rare to have ownership like the Bengals'. This happened in 2010 too.

Isn't having the minority owner overseeing the investigation of the majority owner a conflict of interest?
The NFL is hiring outside counsel and taking over the investigation.

This is not good for Jerry. The Panthers were trying to do the ol’ “we’ll investigate and slap some penalties before the NCAA drops the hammer” thing. This could be a very interesting precedent set if it is bad enough to actually force the sale of a professional franchise.

Maybe a better comparison would be to say the Panthers were trying to do the ol' NFL "we'll run an 'independent' investigation into whether anyone at the NFL saw the Ray Rice video and then our investigation will conclude that no one at the NFL saw the video even though there was an audio recording of an NFL administrative assistant confirming receipt of the video and having seen it along with commentary on how awful the video was."

Like the Clippers. But Sterling didn't put up that much of a fight.

Awesome awesome news.

Kantor, Twohey, and Farrow need to have statues up for getting the ball rolling on bringing to light all of these dirtbags.

Richardson better lose this team immediately. Force him to sell. Sexual harassment and racial slurs have no business in the world let alone in a workplace. I’m all in favor of a female owner or an African American owner to replace this racist sexist pig.

Yes jones is next. I’d wager every single owner in pro sports needs to be shaking right now as all of them have probably either turned a blind eye to it from “favorite employees” or have done it themselves. Even Kraft probably has glossed over a complaint or two and said “boys will be boys” and chalked it up to locker room talk.

And they should be forced to sign Colin Kaepernick

Ed: he should go, and it would be great if a woman or minority bought the team, but even in a forced sale business is going to business and football is going to football

What does Kap have anything to do with it? They already have a great QB in Cam.

I realize it’s going to go to whoever. But the NFL needs to have a bigger say than the actual person selling it. He can’t go and sell it to his kids. Get that stink off the team.

Well that's a legal issue. I have no idea if they can or cannot have a bigger say, and what the League is entitled to compel him to do, or if he can sell it to his kids or what.

Sterling got $2 Bn for the Clippers. There will be a bidding war and he will get full value. Just be glad as a fan that Richardson won't be involved with the sport you follow for entertainment. There are plenty of billionaire fortunes out there held by even shittier people.

Don't sales have to be approved by the league or the owners?

In other news, I know there is nothing that can be dine to prevent it, but I hate that the puncihsment for such shitty behavior is that he gets 2 billion dollars for his team.

I mentioned it in the other thread, but given his age and that fact that he's already spectacularly wealthy, I am confident that being kicked out of the exclusive club of NFL owners is a pretty meaningful thing for the guy regardlesss of the fact that he's about to become a multi-billionaire. Also if somehow an ownership group with a minority as the principal could end up with the team, you know it would kill the guy that an uppity you-know-what is now representing the interest of the team he founded at NFL owners meetings.

Per Schefter:

"NFL head of officials Al Riveron said he has told referees not to use folded note cards on first-down measurements, as happened Sunday night in Cowboys-Raiders game."

Did I miss this being posted? Seems significant. Aaron Rodgers put on IR on Tuesday, ending his season.
When the Patriots claimed Martellus Bennett, the Packers complained that Bennett was healthy enough to play in games, should not have gone for season-ending surgery and was able to play, as proven by the fact that he played for in Patriots games. And we heard tons of complaints about Bennett from Packers fans. Then Bennett went on IR, so it seems he really was hurt.

Then the Packers placed Rodgers in a game, Rodgers played and didn't seem to aggravate anything, and yet he was put on IR.

This either gives credence to Bennett's claim that the Packers have a tendency to rush players to play even though they're not fully healthy, or it implies both Bennett and the Packers were doing the exact same thing (Bennett making the prudent decision because Rodgers was out not to risk health in a 50-50 situation on a non-playoff-bound team, Packers making the prudent decision not to risk Rodgers' health in a 50-50 situation when the team was not playoff-bound).

Where exactly would he fit on this roster? He offers zero value on special teams and, well, sucks at playing in any capacity on defense.

Couple that was his public - and I can imagine there's even more private - chafing at not logging sufficient snaps and I don't see a remote fit.

The patriots will sign him and he will proceed to strip sack Big Ben in the afc championship game to secure the win for the pats.

He’s toast. There’s a reason they cut him and he wasn’t playing. As someone else noted, the roster doesn’t have room for a five play player at the moment and he offers nothing else besides being a distraction.

This tweet has a non-toast ring to it.

@pff “James Harrison has seen just 17 pass-rush snaps as an edge defender this season, but has still racked up a pressure once every 4.25 pass-rushing snaps.”

Is that good? Bad? Average?

I like Harrison. He works his ass off. But he's the poster boy for abusing steroids and it always cracked me up the way people talked around it.

Loved it last week as Michaels talked about how incredible it was that Harrison was playing at this advanced age and Collinsworth talked about how insane his workout regimen is while they show a picture of Harrison flexing a 20-inch bicep. Reminds me of when people talked about the Roger Clemens workout.

For me, it was just when he returned from basically being out of football and everyone was like oh he took a few years off and is now suddenly bigger, faster and stronger and a Pro Bowl player when he previously washed out. Magic!

Definitely Lattimer from The Program.

No opinion on what Nomar did or didn't use, but I never got the fuss over that picture. That physique wasn't that hard to obtain, especially not with pro athlete genes and access to great trainers and recovery.

Nomar broke down like Tiger Woods. Rather suddenly, and irreparably.

Thought it was the fastball off the wrist. Regardless, what's that have to do with potential steroid use?

Or are you saying after testing came in he was never the same?

Rebounded from wrist with two strong seasons. Then came the Achilles ...

Did not intend to create frolic and detour and will let this lie.

Separately, some of you may have been amused to hear Jeff Fisher claim some credit for the 2017 Rams.

This is sadly true; all it takes is one:

PFF liked the percentage.
When you are playing something like 8 (football reference says he has 40 defensive snaps all year in 5 games) snaps a game and are the freshest player on the field, I imagine it becomes a little easier to generate pressure. I may be wrong, though, I have a tendency to say stupid things.
