So quite a bit of money is freed up with the departure of Desmond, Zimmermann, Fister and Span, but some holes are also created. Among potential offseason moves would be picking up a serious corner OF bat and putting Harper in CF with Taylor as 4th OF. I love Taylor and see lots of upside in his game, but he is still pretty raw and have a hard time imagining them agreeing to have him as starting CF just yet. I also assume Papelbon will be on his way out of town if a trade partner can be found. I don't see them being in the market for any of the FA starters - they have good young depth, and need to have $ to sign some of the young guys they probably want to keep in the future (aka Harper, Rendon and Stras)....

Nats added Shawn Kelley, to add Yusmero Petit

    http://m.nationals.mlb.com/news/article/159289906/shawn-kelley-agrees-to-sign-with-the-nationals

The Nationals improved their bullpen on Wednesday by agreeing to terms with right-hander Shawn Kelley, pending a physical, while working on signing right-hander Yusmeiro Petit, according to a baseball source. The club has not yet confirmed.

According to the source, Kelley, who is expected to pitch in the late innings for Washington, will likely take a physical later this week. Kelley had his best year of his career in 2015, playing in 53 games with a 2.45 ERA for the Padres.

Look, A Murphy in the Stocking!

    http://m.nationals.mlb.com/news/article/160418426/daniel-murphy-nationals-agree-to-3-year-deal

The deal is worth a reported $37.5 million over the three years, according to FOX Sports.

By getting Murphy, the Nationals will surrender a first-round Draft pick because Murphy rejected the Mets' qualifying offer worth $15.8 million. New York will get a compensation pick between the first and second rounds.

*AAV for the deal - $12.5 million

It is a lock that Dusty is going to play Drew over Turner.

Stephen Drew will probably serve as backup MI, and come off the bench.

    Nats sign Bronson Arroyo

    http://m.nationals.mlb.com/news/article/162928770/bronson-arroyo-will-sign-with-nationals

Arroyo agreed to a Minor League contract with the Nationals on Tuesday that will have him pitching for former Reds manager Dusty Baker.

If Arroyo makes the team out of Spring Training, he would receive a base salary of $2 million. The incentive-filled contract can earn Arroyo up to an additional $6 million if he makes at least 32 starts.
