118 years after Teddy Roosevelt gathered his Rough Riders in Tampa to sail towards glory on Cuban shores, another band of scrappy, underpaid young men prepare to depart the city for Havana to begin their campaign for glory. Hopefully they will avoid the mismanagement and significant disabled list time that held back that 1898 squad.

The Rays have signed Dan Johnson (hitter of the most clutch HR in Rays history) as a knuckleball pitcher. (Yup)

Got me all nostalgic about the greatest night in baseball history and I came across "Game 162" - a neat production made in the mould of Four Days in October:

I still remember everything about that night - the agony as Price shit the bed, the glimmer of hope after Longoria's first HR and the pure ecstasy after his second, the relief when Crawford came up short on that line drive in the 9th inning of the Sox-Os game and, of course, Dan "Ice in His Fucking Veins" Johnson hitting that HR to send the game to extra innings.

That was a hell of a night. It felt absolutely bizarre to be ecstatic about the Yankees blowing a game, but obviously that didn't matter anymore. The one thing I always remember is the final, merciful, somewhat pathetic appearance of Scott Proctor as a Yankee, years after Joe Torre had destroyed his arm in both New York and LA. It felt fitting that he had to give it up and lose that game, but I felt bad for the guy.

Brad Boxberger out for two months after surgery to 'repair a core-muscle injury', Kevin Cash says they will go with closer by committee until he's back.

The smell of plastic is in the air, the walls are freshly painted, the roof is glowing in the midday sun....it's opening day at the Trop.

Archer goes today with a line-up behind him that has turned over pretty heavily from last year.

Let's see what the boys can do in 2016.

Really nice piece. That 3-D pitch data is incredibly interesting. Snell sure looks like he could be a good one.
