So, if someone intentionally tripped one of your blue chip players as they went up for a dunk, leading to an awkward fall and a broken wrist, you wouldn't consider that to be a dirty play?

I guess I just don't get your position on this. What Allen is doing is very dirty. Just because the recent examples have been relatively benign don't change that. At not point is a bball player ever taught to trip an opponent so how can it be "instinctual"? It's a completely foreign play in this sport.
For a lot of people, myself included it is instinctual to stick out your foot to do a lot of things including catching something you dropped, holding a door, trying to stop someone driving by you on the court. Some people just use their feet more. Its just a foul. Its the same as hooking someones arm when they go up for a dunk just with your foot. Not sure we will see suspensions for that anytime soon.

Sticking your foot out like that is not instinctual unless your instinct is to trip people. Honestly, you are embarrassing yourself here.

Allen is not some criminal and his play, while dirty, pales in comparison to the stuff we witness from someone like Draymond Green. Allen is a good, possibly great, player who sometimes does dumb things on the court and then loses his shit when he's held accountable. (And I have to believe that the reason he's sitting a few games is related more to his behavior on the bench than on the court.).

I don't know a large number of elite athletes, but I know enough to understand that this sort of behavior is not at all unusual for hyper-competitive people. Coach K is doing what coaches should do, which is holding him accountable and helping him understand the importance of maturity.

C'mon. Are you really equating what Allen did /has done to using your foot to hold open a door? You're getting silly, man. If Tyler Hansbrough had done this to a Dukie, you all would have lost your shit.

We all have blinders on for certain things, I guess.

Then why does the rule book specifically mention this action if it's so "foreign"? It's not at all - it's something you're not allowed to do and it comes with a defined penalty.

Hockey has a rule against tripping and it's a two minute penalty. We don't tweak out when that happens.
Comparing basketball and hockey is totally relevant. Good work!

Coach K out up to a month due to back surgery.

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University head men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski will undergo lower back surgery on Friday, Jan. 6, to remove a fragment of a herniated disc.

The procedure will be performed by Dr. Allan Friedman at Duke University Hospital. The anticipated recovery time for Krzyzewski is up to four weeks.

After utilizing many different conservative treatment options over the last month, it was determined that a surgical procedure was necessary to resolve the problem.

It must be really serious for him to do this right now. He has a potential historically awesome team. If he feels he can't hold off until the end of the season then he must just be in a tremendous amount of pain. I really wish him the best, he's one of the best things about basketball; goddamn Duke.

And who else thinks Carolina would actually improve if Robinson took over for a bit and we had to "run plays," "adjust defenses," and "call timeouts?"

Dude turns 70 in February. Wouldn't be surprised if the end (his career) is near.

I was annoyed by the Clemson coach, Brad something or other, yelling at Roy Williams. Apparently he (Brad Clemson Coach) was sad that Meeks was talking trash to his team.

It's basketball being played by college students. There might be some trash talking, Bradley.

Yea I saw it. I'm not defending Brownell. Even if Meeks said something inappropriate to the bench, it's not the issue you take up with Roy on camera. That's my understanding, that Meeks said something to guys on bench.

They should all go watch Requeim for the Big East for perspective. Lol

Well, announcing a one game suspension, losing the game and then bringing him back is pretty silly. Just say it's a one game suspension. Otherwise it looks like you are suspending him until it becomes an issue for the team on the court.

And if you don't care about his tripping, then don't suspend him at all and just tell the media you spoke with him.

Hopefully Allen learns his lesson. Wouldn't want him to get a 2 game lifetime ban.

Coach K back surgery a success. Expected to be out "up to 4 weeks" or roughly equivalent to Grayson Allen's punishment would be if he were to intentionally burn down the campus.

Grayson may have found his role on this team as a distributor. 7 assists vs 5 field goal attempts last game, 9 assists vs 3 field goal attempts so far today at the half. He could average a double double easily if he wanted

Looks like yes. It appears he flops a little and then unnecessarily kicks up his inside leg. The screener actually motions his outside shoulder away from the contact.

I honestly think he's hurting his draft stock at this point. Crazy.

I would totally contribute to crowdfunding a series of 10 day contracts for Ron Artest to conincide with games for whatever team drafts him though.

That screener will never be able to have kids given the ferocity of that intentional kick, I feel so bad for him
