This is sort of covered in various threads, but I can't find anything on point.  Post draft it seems like this team is going to be staying put until it trades Rondo.  Unfortunately that trade is starting to feel inevitable.  It is also starting to feel like we are not going to get the king's ransom people want.

However, who knows what that will bring.  One thing that does appear pretty certain is that we are going to have at least some cap space to outright sign at least one high profile/ decent FA in 2015.  For those that follow the league more generally then myself, who would realistically be a target? The Brow is a FA, but that is obviously a pipe dream.  I thought Bradley was an overpay myself, but who exactly would we want to be saving cap space FOR exactly?

Honestly, you can basically throw out guys like Anthony Davis coming off their rookie deals. Teams control them, can match, and can offer substantially more than anybody else. There's no point in discussing it, because he's basically a free agent in name only.

The actual list of 2015 UFA's can be found here: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9947573/nba-free-agents-2014-2015.

The highlights include Marc Gasol, Paul Milsap, LaMarcus Aldridge (though, he's stated his intention to sign a 5 year deal in Portland), Kevin Love, Goran Dragic, and a handful of others. Guys like Hibbert, David West, and Al Jefferson have player options. Guys like Thompson, Rubio, Reggie Jackson, and Kawhaii are restricted.

I've always been adamant that saving cap space for the purpose of making a FA offer in the future is a beyond terrible waste of resources. When a roster is properly structured as Ainge and Morey in Houston have done in the past by staggering large expiring contracts each year to dramatically increase flexibility which includes easily clearing salaries IF that FA opportunity (Bosh) becomes available.

To pry a good player from another team you're forced to make dramatic overpays that dwarf what Avery received. Look at what was needed to offer Parsons and Hayward to even make their present team consider not matching? Asik? Lin?

It's the worst way to go about building a team. Ainge executed rebuilding perfectly in acquiring salary slots and one good young player into KG and Allen. It was probably a once-in-a-career opportunity where all the stars aligned but still a much better alternative to waiting to sign a FA......especially in a market like Boston.

This is the price we paid for 2008.....hopefully we see light at the end of the tunnel as the Nets hopefully lottery picks and our own almost certain lottery picks arrive to see how Danny moves them and what he turns them into.
