Down here in Fort Worth for the Regional.  TCU's park plays very big which should be a good thing with how our offense plays gap to gap and doesn't rely on the HR(only hit 7 all year).  Will be intrigued to see how Preston Palmeiro hits our lefty starter today.  Going to be dodging the raindrops all day long.

Indiana decided to pitch to Dansby Swanson bottom 9 of a tied game with first base open.

2 run walk off. Imagine that.

Columbia has won three games including beating Miami on their home field tonight (Alex Rodriguez Field, no joke) where they were previously 33-4 this season. They play again tomorrow to decide the region winner, but as it is, Columbia is the first Ivy League team to win three games since Harvard in 1974.

Miami over Columbia in a squeaker right now, 20-3 in the 6th.

Still better than Radford did today, they lost 21-0 to Vandy.

Running out of pitching kills you at every level.

Maryland and UVA both won their regionals in Southern California then shared an "awkward" charter flight back to the east coast before facing each other in the super regionals coming up.
That Virginia coach sounds like a dick. Sharing a charter with another team and flying back from the west coast is a "student welfare" issue?  He does realize school is out right?  You don't like travel delays? Win enough games to host the regional.

He's not talking about sharing, he's talking about getting back to school at 4:30 in the morning. The flight was delayed 6.5 hours.

And many college athletes take summer classes to lighten the load during their season. School isn't necessarily out.

I doubt any of those kids are signed up for Summer1 during regional, supers, and Omaha, but I guess its possible. But if they aren't he sure is using the term "student" conveniently.

But again, he's complaining about getting back at 4:30 in the morning. That's not ideal. Not sure why complaining about that makes him a dick.

I understand he's talking about the delays and arrival time. But its not like the stuff Bobby Knight used to complain about when Big Monday had the Big Ten game starting late and by design, the kids wouldn't get back to the dorm until 2-3 in the AM if you were the road team. We're talking about a travel delay and a flight from California to Dulles. It's not as if the NCAA was sticking it to UVA. There wasn't a regional north of Florida and east of Louisville. All the ACC 3 seeds played in California.

He's pissed. I get it. But he doesn't have to use "welfare of student-athletes" to make his point.

Okay...I think we're coming at it from different places. I think he used that term because it's the term the NCAA uses all the time. He was tweaking them.

Back to baseball, word is Clemson already has a YES from a coach for the job, which would probably rule out O'Sullivan, Schlossnagle, or any one else still playing.

Hoping its Monte Lee.

Trying to confirm this from a friend whose son is going there next year.

They kept LaCroy on for the transition. But can't blame a kid for opening things up. I'm assuming he's a rising senior and not a fall enrollee?

There is going to be fallout for sure. Jack is an HOF coach and the coaching tree, players, and recruits are loyal. Most of the HC's in the coaching tree are saying they are loyal to Jack and won't work for the AD that fired him. But its Clemson, they're spending a ton of money on facilities and its a big job. Interesting to see how this plays out.

Looking like a strong group for Omaha. With nothing but Regional 1 seeds left to fight it out today, we're going to have 6 1 seeds, a 2, and a 3 advancing.

And the 3 seed is a team who was top 5 pre-season before Joe McCarthy and Nathan Kirby got hurt.  I wonder if Kirby will be healthy enough to play in Omaha as there was a chance he'd be back for Regionals.

It's got to be strange to have the NCAAs and the draft overlap like they do, kids are going for a title at the same time some of their futures are being decided. Slightly odd timing, why don't they have the draft right after the NCAAs end, or even on an off day for the tournament?

TCU and TAMU tied at 4 in the 14th, TCU have based loaded with one outs in bottom of inning.

Edit: A force out at home and a groundout to 2nd ends the inning - on to the 15th.

Yeah, that "force out at home" in the 14th above was a rocket off the pitcher's chest that caromed to the 1B who threw the runner out at home (who had to hold because it was a line drive).

Then in the 15th, TCU tried a hit and run with a 2-1 count, but somehow A&M pitched out and threw the runner out easily.

Now they're in the 16th, the longest game ever in this round was 17 innings.

Oh man, runner on second, two outs, sharp grounder that the 3B can't play and slightly bobbles, but for some reason the runner keeps going, right through the stop sign. The throw beats him home by 15 feet, but the catcher lets it get by him, game over, TCU wins.

Too late to get the Short Season leagues going if they wait until after the CWS.

It was a cool day 3 years ago when we beat UCF for the Coral Gables Regional title and our CF was drafted by SD in the sandwich round.  Then the next day we flew to LSU and 6 more of our guys got drafted.

And we're off. I was tied up Fri/Sat playing some golf, but did catch the big Florida inning. Offense is back apparently. 3 total home runs each of the last two years, and in the opening game we had 2, including this BennyBomb below.

UVA over Arkansas, 5-3
Florida over Miami, 15-3

Winners pair up. Loser play elimination game. Bottom of the bracket starts today.

For those interested the buzz is that Clemson has hired College of Chaleston's Monte Lee, who is bringing highly regarded pitching coach Matt Heath with him. Heath was probably leaving Charleston anyway as he had SEC offers this offseason. Supposedly its a done deal, pending backround checks and contract details, and an announcement is likely coming Tuesday.

Interesting day. Walkoff homerun by Vandy. Walkoff single by Miami, courtesy of Jason Heyward's little bro.

Good news is Benintendi now has some free time.

Lee couldn't have liked the move to the CAA. I had heard he was looking to get out. That would be a good hire for Clemson.

I've heard Monte Lee is at Clemson again today for a third interview/meeting. If he's up there, my guess is its details. I've heard from someone connected to CoC he's gone and that was at 5:30 on Saturday. Waiting for real news.

The internet and twitter are worthless in these hiring situations. I've heard it all from done deal to no offer has been made. Waiting on official word from either Clemson or Monte.

I do have a close connection to a CoC recruit and he is not happy, but I don't know if he's spoken to Monte or just seeing what we're seeing on the internet.

Nobody is watching but this is a great match-up (again).  Haseley is giving Virgina a fantastic outing keeping them in this game.
