We have real live hoop tonight!

What's left of Rose vs. LeBron and then actual basketball with The Brow vs. Curry.

Gonna be a good season.

Oh look, the Dubs got to have a big party with bands and the commissioner on hand to celebrate the best team in his league and all that since they were the champs.

FU, Goodell, you petty prick.

LeBron laying down on the sideline ala Bird on the Dream Team should terrify all Cleveland fans.

That was phenomenal defense by Jimmy Butler at the end of the game. Denied LeBron the inbounds pass despite getting screened twice until getting a hand on the pass and then knocking the ball wisely down the court as time ticked away.

Really funny watching him up there with the mic right now. Not tripping over every other word, not coming off like an entitled prick, or an oblivious airhead, or an over-prepped PR robot, or any of the other faces worn by Goodell whenever he's trying to put out fires started by his own office.

Or maybe I'm just biased because I've been waiting so long for Silver to take Stern's chair and would love him no matter what.

This is so, so true.

The warriors crowd man...they are entering hbo boxing status of me having to listen with the volume down. It's like they're filming an And 1 mxitape during their games.

Steph dribbles by a slow, 100000 foot center and the crowd ooohss and awwss like he just broke Chris Paul's ankles. Come on. I know for a fact this isnt the first time they've watched basketball because they literally just won the title.

Yeah, this is my issue as well. I like a loud crowd as well, but they are kind of entering CenturyLink level where they know everyone calls them the best crowd in the league and they have a "reputation" to uphold. Everytime someone dribbles meaninglessly behind their back you would think Vince just jumped over Frederic Weiss.

I get exactly what you are saying, but we are probably just assholes. A lot of west coast stuff, I just don't get it, but they seem happy so who am I to judge.

29/6/3 (with only 2 TOs) is a pretty good night.
Final tally: 40 pts (on 26 fga), 6 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, those same 2 turnovers, while barely appearing to break a sweat.

Not a huge surprise to those who observed him in preseason, where he casually put up over 30 pts per 36 on over .700 true shooting and generally looked like a (small) man among (big) boys. In a pre-season ESPN podcast, Nate Duncan and Ethan Sherwood Strauss agreed that the most likely Warrior to take a step forward this season was ... Curry. Scary thought for opposing teams.

By way of a topic: with LeBron doing his late-career Larry Bird routine (he's already logged more career minutes than the Legend), coming off his worse season in 7-8 years and a playoffs in which he put up .487 ts, I think one can probably make a case that Steph Curry is the best basketball player in the world right now. He has the ring, the MVP and the advanced stats (RPM, e.g.) to back it up.

I look forward to the howls of derision. HE TOO SMALL, ERNIE!!!

Blazers drop 43 on NO in the first quarter, including a cool 22 from CJ McCollum. Last year's Blazer high for a quarter was 39.

Melo goes 4-16; Porzingas 3-11; Bucks shoot 50% from 3 and ...

Knicks win by 25?

fake edit: Antetokounmpo, Parker, and Mayo all not playing. I didn't realize that Antetokounmpo has gotten suspended.

Denver blows out Houston by 20. Mudiay makes his debut with 17-5-9 with 11(!) turnovers. He is going to be fun.

Good for the T-Wolves.  And good on Adam Silver and the NBA for doing the un-NFL thing and allowing the players to do something that may not conform to the league's standards but feels right.

I forgot to add the Wolves to my Celtics draft pick watch.  I'd say about a 5% chance of it happening, but could add some fun for a couple months.

I had the Kings Clippers on last night but wasn't watching too closely. Neither team is enjoyable. I'm confused by the Clippers in that, I think I like individual players on that team but then I watch them play and I start rooting for them to lose. For the Kings, well that's a mess but they can win some games. Cousins needs to stop carrying on because he is hurting himself. I think a lot of times he is correct in what he is upset about but the officials give him no calls at all and his complaining is probably making it worse.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Kings compete for the 8 seed, but I wouldn't be shocked if they have a locker room brawl either.

Wasn't it during the GS/Clips series two years ago when the Clippers wore all white or something as a sign of disrespect to Donald Sterling? Imagine if Goodell was in charge for that.

So I'm watching Ray Felton try to run the pick and roll with Dirk and it is pretty sad. This kid Powell who was supposed to be trade fodder in the rondo deal is playing big minutes. The tank might be on in Dallas.

Well, they were without three starters due to the back to back. They're really in an ideal situation for the Celtics really - pretty decent when healthy, but going to risk getting blown out in back to backs due to rest.

They would have still worn all white.

I only follow the Celtics closely, so I didn't see who was in or out or why. But if they are going to rest guys, they should not make Dirk play with 4 dudes that suck. I don't know how Felton is in the league. He looked almost as bad as Jameer Nelson.

It's pretty remarkable. He hasn't been able to fight over the top of a pick for forever, and now he plain just can't fit over the top of one. That team is going to give up oodles of points.

That Zach Lowe suddenly doesn't have a platform 2 games into the NBA season is criminal.
Totally agreed. I felt the same way about Bill Simmons' unique voice being muted during the Warriors' historic playoff run, and I like Lowe even more than Simmons.

I'd kinda love to see Lowe end up on Nate Silver's 538 Sports, which on top of being a consistently great read is also the best-looking and most info-graphically rich sports site out there, imho. But I'm not sure Lowe is quite number-oriented enough for them, or if they have enough money to pay him.

Very curious to see where the few remaining smart, thoughtful, in-depth analysts on ESPN end up with the network apparently going full lowest-common-denominator. Can SoSH pool together and sponsor a new Grantland?

Edit: d'oh, just realized 538 is ESPN-sponsored too. So I guess if Lowe doesn't end up on 538 we can assume there was some kind of ego conflict with the ESPN muckety-mucks, as with Simmons. Makes me wonder how long Nate Silver himself will be able to hold out...

Isn't ESPN going to respect existing contracts? He may just join the regular NBA page on ESPN, which isn't too shabby (though not very creative).

Is this a scoring league now? All these scores look really high to me. I'm a super casual fan btw...

Yes. Watch the Warriors play. That is the perfection 99% of the league (minus the grizzlies) is striving for.
