First upset of the day is Sloane Stephens who was ousted in straight sets by the future Mrs. Alexander Ovechkin aka Maria Kirilenko.

Sam Stosur, in London without a coach, is now without a reason to stay in London. Bounced in the first round.

EDIT: Well, she is competing in doubles so she'll be sticking around for that.

And Sloane Stephens is out int he blink of an eye.

Bad draw for her as Kirilenko was unranked returning from an injury plagued season,  but is a classy professional who was top 10 last year.

Kirilenko should get a razzy for ugliest tennis dress possible for an incredibly beautiful woman.

Venus is having trouble.  Easy 1st set but dropped the 2nd, now 1-1 in the 3rd.

edit: turns it up and blows Torra Flor off the court, 6-2 in the 3rd.  Some vintage work from her after a mid-match stumble.

Venus into the 3rd round.  Murray dominated, I think he lost two games the whole match.

Yesterday, Nadal looked really shaky, almost like he was injured coming out of Paris.  Lost the first set, struggled in the 2nd, and the 3rd and 4th were grinds.  Anyone else see him and think that he wasn't himself?

I didn't see the Nadal match but I'm not surprised he struggled a bit. He put so much energy into winning the French that I don't expect a deep run at Wimbledon.

Azarenka struggling in the 2nd round against (quite cute) qualifier Bojana Jovanovski.  3rd set, 5-6, Azarenka serving, goes up 40-0, and now at deuce.  Two points from going out.

Vika is (in my opinion) probably the only woman who can stand toe-to-toe against "A-game" Serena, so I'm rooting for her to go through just so we get the chance of a classic.  Li Na isn't going to bring Azarenka's amount of thunder.

edit: so she loses 5 points in a row on her serve, and is out.  Right when I tune in, too.  Same with Ferrer - I'm like the angel of death today.

Djokovic struggled today in his 4 set victory over Radek Stepanek. Look shaky at times.

San Francisco's own Sam Querrey is currently up 2 sets to 1 on Jo-Willy Tsonga, although he's about to drop the 4th and go to a 5th.  A great way to kill half an hour before the 4pm football matches.  Querrey is placing the ball really well, and his footwork is letting him catch up to Tsonga's power.  I'm very impressed - and I've never before thought much of Querrey's game.

5th set, 6-5, Tsonga serving to level it at 6.  30-30, Q handles a ball wide left with side spin, runs very wide, and Tsonga places a nice drop shot to the right (also with knuckling side spin) and Querrey charges it, stretches, nearly lays out... and then places a perfect cross-court shot juuuuuuust over the net.  It has backspin, and catches the outside of the line to give Querrey break point.  One of the most amazing shots I've ever seen, I hope there's a replay out there.

Tsonga saves the match point and holds for 6-6.  This one will continue - definitely recommend it to any tennis fans out there, these two guys are busting their asses.

edit: play suspended for the night at 9-9 in the 5th.  Tsonga had a break point in the last game, but Q saved it and held.  I love the no-5th-set-tiebreak thing.

I saw Venus up a set 7-5 and on-serve in the 2nd, 3-2.  What happened, anyone see?  I realize Kvitova's no chump, but it did look like Venus was running her around the court.

Her serve was a little shaky, but she played pretty well until the last game.  Lost the tie-break to Kvitova in the 2nd set, and mishit a few backhands in the last game before dumping match point into the bottom of the net.

What the hell just happened with Serena in her doubles match? 98.5 broke in with something about her not being able to hit the ball (knocking serves into the stands, etc) and by the time I loaded espn3 they had called it. They said something about medical people (guys with green bags) running out?

Still haven't shown any replays but they're talking about it in the studio.
4 straight double faults on serve, couldn't pick up the ball.
doctors were apparently out taking her bp before the match

Nadal loses the first set to Nick Krygios who bombed 13 aces in the 1st set. He's a young 19 year old Aussie.

Something very wrong with Serena, clearly.  I didn't watch but I saw the same replays and studio discussion, it looked like she was just swinging and missing even during warmups.

Meanwhile, something called a Nick Kyrgios just took a first-set tiebreak from Rafael Nadal.  He walks with swagger and had pinpoint precision on his serves.  I'm not entirely sure I like him, but he basically dictated to Nadal for most of that set.  Something worth watching right now if Argentina-Switzerland isn't your bag.

Kyrgios won the Aussie Junior Grand Slam in 2013. He is an up an comer who looks to have a massive serve.

Kyrgios now up 2 sets to 1 over Nadal having won both via tie-break. He really is playing well against Rafa.

Kyrgios with the break of Nadal in the 4th and a (challenging) hold to go up 4-1.  He's two holds from unseating Rafa.

Meanwhile, Roger Federer plays his countryman Stan tomorrow; winner here plays Raonic and then the winner of Fed-Wawa in the semis.  Assuming Kyrgios pulls it out, him facing Raonic would be a serious display of serving prowess.

Kyrgios closes it out in 4 sets. He now gets Raonic in the Quarters. Real good chance if Kyrgios plays like this he will be in the semis.

I dunno, Raonic is playing lights-out.  He's only faced 3 break points all tournament, saving 2 (lost 1 vs Nishikori).

It would be pretty funny if a cocky 19-year-old Aussie storms his way through 3 of the Big 4 to win Wimbledon though.  If he gets through Raonic and then Roger, I'd probably root for him in the final despite not generally liking his attitude, just because it would be an underdog story for the ages.

He's definitely really cocky but very talented. Monster serve that showed a solid fore-hand today against Nadal.

It's not like Nadal was shitty today. He was real solid but Kyrgios was just better.

He's 19, if you can't be cocky when you're 19, when can you be? I'd say he was just 'young'. Great to see some new blood coming through.

Definitely....Thought we would see Janowicz up here again after the semis last year but he has had a terrible 2014 season. Good chance for Raonic also to reach his first Grand Slam semi final.

Kyrgios is the first WC to reach the Quarters since Juan Carlos Ferrero in 2009 at Wimbledon though Ferrero was a previous major champion at the French. Prior to that you have to go back to 2001 with Goran Ivanišević who won the tournament. If Kyrgios reaches the finals it will be one of the biggest unknowns ever to reach the final.

Well it is about time someone young starts to show up in the men's game.   Not a huge shock Nadal went out this early he really has been pretty shitty the entire tournament

Agree. He has been living on the edge all tournament. Might not even got by Raonic if he won today. He was likely spent from the French. I think he will be on come New York.

Tennis is such a brutal grind, and it has al.ways been a young man game.   Nadal is already past his prime.  That doesn't mean he won't win 5 more French,  but 28 is getting really old for this sport.

In fact only 14 of the last 120 grand slam winners have been older than Nadal will be when he takes the court in Queens.  On the other hand the rest of the top 7 at the moment are a couple guys a lot older (Feds, Ferrer), a couple guys a year older (Berdych and Warwinka), and a couple guys a year younger (Murray and Djoker).  So until the new generation shows they are ready for their time at the top

Cilic takes the tie break in the 3rd set now up 2 sets to 1 over Novak. That would be a huge stunner.
