Two on, no outs for the Hoos in the b-4th. Singles by Cogswell & Pinero bring Papi up.

EDIT - Miller with enormous nads getting Papi, McCarthy & Fisher in order to preserve the 9-5 Vandy lead.

Horrible route by Vandy's John Norwood in CF on that shot by Brandon Downes. Clearly over his head, but he takes a track perpendicular to its path, and then has to take an abrupt right turn and chase it down. It goes for a 2-out triple.

EDIT - #9 hitter Nate Irving knows him in. A double drilled down the RF line makes it 9-6, Vandy.

EDIT - A walk to Cogswell brings the tying run to the plate in Danny Pinero with 2 outs.

EDIT - Base hit up the middle. Irving scores, 9-7 Vandy.

Hope the SoSH Hoos contingent didn't blow this game off.

EDIT - Papi rips one to the right-center warning track, and Norwood tracks it down. Wow, thought it was gone off the bat. Inning over.

Close. I'll admit it. That was a nightmare to watch. I like that they are continuing to fight. That Papi ball...ugh.

Having Papi bunt in the 8th was moronic. They were all over that kid, and he gives away our best hitter. Basically played for 1 run in a 2 run game.

We are a much better baseball team. Not scared. We also pissed away game 1 vs Maryland.

Not all Kirbys fault. He can't take himself out. O'Connor didn't have pen warm fast enough. That was our game. Eight runs. We can still win this

Helluva try there by Kenny Towns, snaring the hard grounder on the tough hop at 3rd, and then throwing to first on a bounce -- while his ass was still planted on the dirt. Bryan Reynolds safe with the 1-out single.

EDIT - Easy 4-3 GIDP ball for Cogswell on the Vince Conde grounder. On to the t-2nd.

Another perfect inning for Beede, including a perfectly-placed sinker at the knees with late L to R kick that froze Derek Fisher for the 2nd out. He's at 27 pitches for the night.

Norwood draws a 1-out walk for Vandy. Wiseman up.

EDIT - An easy steal of 2nd. High throw by Coman. But on replay, his hand never touched the base before the tag. Pinero's cleat was in the way. Oops.

EDIT - Wiseman rips one past Waddell's feet and up the middle for a base hit. Norwood wisely holds at 3rd as Downes came up firing and rifled a strike to the plate. Men at the corners, 1 out.

EDIT - Hard liner right back at Waddell. Hits him near his chest/shoulders, but he appears ok and gets the out at 1st. Run scores, Vandy takes a 1-0 lead as Wiseman heads to 2nd.

EDIT - A 5-3 grounder ends the inning. We'll see whether the tainted run is a deciding factor.

A first-pitch ground-out to 3rd by LaPrise to start off the t-3rd for the Hoos.

EDIT - Another first-pitch swing by Downes and it's a liner off Beede's glove that goes for an infield hit.

EDIT - Another hard grounder by Coman off the glove of Conde and into shallow LF for a base hit. Downes was running on the play and gets to 3rd. Top of the order up for the Cavs.

EDIT - Cogswell with a beautiful bunt down the 1B line. Safety squeeze gets the run home and we're tied up. Coman to 2nd with 2 out.

EDIT - A walk to Pinero puts 2 on for Papi.

EDIT - Beede gets him swinging. Beautiful pitch. On to the b-3rd.

Hard liner pulled by McCarthy, but it's right at Zander Wiel for out #1. He really smoked it. #BadBABIPLuck

EDIT - Beede gets Fisher swinging on what he calls his "changeup with cut", which is what he used to get Papi last inning. He's at 55 pitches and still hasn't thrown a single breaking ball yet.

EDIT - A first-pitch single to center for Kenny Towns.

EDIT - Grounder to Conde, but he boots it for an E-6. Two on, two out. Beede's allowing a lot of solid contact on his fastballs so far.

EDIT - Beede gets ahead 0-2 on Downes, who grounds hard to 3rd for the inning-ending 5-4 forceout. On to the b-4th.

A leadoff grounder to 3B by Wiel, but Kenny Towns' throw sails over everything. Runner at 2B to lead off for Vandy with Norwood up.

EDIT - A 1-2 breaking ball is right in his wheelhouse, and it winds up as a gapper RBI double to left-center. 2-1 Commodores. Wiseman up.

EDIT - Two foul bunts, the first almost caught on a pop-up. Now he's swinging away on 0-2.

EDIT - Perfect location on the changeup at the knees gets him looking. One down.

EDIT - Great job by UVA as they catch Norwood leaning and get him in a rundown.

EDIT - Another K ends it as Harvey's caught looking. Waddell's got a great game working despite the scoreboard, just 50 pitches so far. On to the t-5th.

Coman works an 8-pitch walk to lead things off for UVA. Beede now at 69.

EDIT - Alas, Cogswell first-pitch hacking and it's a 4-6-3 GIDP.

EDIT - Wow, a somewhat generous call on a change along the outside edge gets Pinero looking. 77 pitches now, 47 for strikes.

A 4-pitch walk to Campbell with 1 out in the b-5th. Top of the order up for Vandy.

EDIT - A 4-6-3 GIDP by Swanson ends the inning. Waddell now at 62 pitches vs a lineup with 8 RHH.

Papi with the leadoff single in the t-6th, then the hit-and-run single to RF by McCarthy puts Cavs at 1st & 3rd with no outs.

EDIT - A slow grounder by Fisher to 2nd, and Swanson can only get the out at 2B. Papi scores, and we're tied again, 2-2. Runner on 1st with 1 down for Towns.

EDIT - Fisher steals on the first pitch, which was a pitchout. Delay bounced his throw several feet in front.

EDIT - Base hit to shallow LF by Towns. 1st & 3rd again for LaPrise, 1 out.

EDIT - A Baltimore chopper to 2nd, and Swanson's only play is to 1st. Fisher scores, and the Hoos grab their first lead of the night, 3-2. Downs up with Towns at 2nd.

EDIT - Well-hit liner by Downes on a low pitch, and Norwood got a shitty read on it. He broke in, then turned tail and sprinted toward the gap, dove, and had it glance off his glove. It's an RBI triple. 4-2, Cavs. Beede's at 89 pitches now.

EDIT - Swanson makes the play to 1st after a high-hop deflection off Beede, and Downes is left at 3B. On to the b-6th.

Not an error, but that should have been caught. The dive was unnecessary and probably caused him to drop the ball.

Another hard-hit ball by Cogswell, a bad-hop grounder that eats up Wiel for a base hit to RF leading off the 7th.

EDIT - Cogswell running on the pitch and he's safe at 2nd on the grounder to short, but they get the out at 1st. That's 105 pitches for Beede, and for some reason he's being left in to pitch to Papi despite having the lefty warm in the pen.

EDIT - An IBB. Guess that explains it. Two more lefties due up.

EDIT - Wow, they're leaving him in to face McCarthy. Fisher on deck. One out.

EDIT - Base hit to left. Bases loaded. Now if they bring in the lefty reliever, it'll be a guy who hasn't seen live game action in a month. 113 pitches for Beede. This is insane, IMO.

EDIT - Fisher bails him out on a first-pitch swing. Grounder to Weil, who throws home for the force. RHH Kenny Towns up.

EDIT - A 2-run single ripped to left. Towns takes 2nd on the throw. 6-2, Hoos. That was Beede's 117th pitch of the night.

EDIT - So 15 minutes after sideline reporter Jessica Mendoza detailed how UVA had figured out how to lay off Beede's devastating changeup, they finally make the move. Corbin's flushed this game down the toilet, IMO. Beede's final line: 6.2 IP, 6 ER, 10 H, 3 BB, 4 K.

EDIT - It takes one pitch to get out of it on a 4-3 grounder. Big hill to climb for Vandy's bats.

Mabrown, I think that hit by cogswell should have been an error on vandy firstbaseman. The hop seemed routine. Bad position

So impressed by Waddell tonight. Pinpoint location and command. What a great CH to get Norwood swinging after a 9-pitch PA. One out b-7th.

EDIT - Wiseman first-pitch swinging, flies to LF.

EDIT - A pair of fly balls to RF, and Vandy's down to their last 6 offensive outs. On to the 8th.

So freshman Ben Bowden's first pitching stint in a month lasts just one pitch. Fireballer RHP Tyler Ferguson on for Vandy.

Delay flies to RF to start the b-8th for Vandy.

EDIT - Campbell with a first-pitch 6-3 groundout. Two down.

EDIT - Swanson with a soft liner to Pinero. Another easy frame for Waddell, who hasn't given up a hit since the 4th inning. 100 pitches, 64 strikes.

Vandy reliever T.J. Pecoraro in some trouble in the t-9th. Papi walks and McCarthy reaches on an infield hit. Fisher nearly beats out the bunt, but the Cavs have 2 in scoring position with 1 out for Towns.

EDIT - They pick Papi off 3rd on a comebacker to the mound, and he absolutely levels Campbell like Ray Lewis trying to get back safely. Just lowered his shoulder and drove into his chest & neck. They're calling it "unnecessary" on the broadcast but I was always taught to try to jar the ball free with good, hard contact.

EDIT - All 6 umps conferring. Vandy fans chanting "throw him out". Seriously? Cut out this horseshit.

EDIT - The call is "runner's interference". Papi's out but not ejected. McCarthy & Towns sent back to their bases. Weird resolution on that.

EDIT - LaPrise singles up the middle, McCarthy scores. 7-2 Hoos.

EDIT- A foul pop fly ends the frame. On to the b-9th where Vandy's got 3 outs left and just 4 hits on the night.

Yeah, there wasn't anything overly flagrant about it. He was literally on the baseline when he made contact, and everyone seemed to agree it was an okay play at the time.

What I don't get is why they sent runners back to 1st and 2nd. That's a headscratcher.

edit: Single by the next batter, umps decision to reset runners cost Virginia a run for sure.

One pitch, one out as Reynolds grounds to 2nd.

A first-pitch strike to Conde followed by a grounder to short. Two down.
