Federer is playing the last round of 16 match now, it looks like he would have to beat Tsonga/Murray/Nadal/Djokovic to add another GS to his collection. He's off to a nice start against Tsonga at least, but that seems like an impossible road.

Fed does look rejuvenated with this larger racket, that match with Murray (assuming he closes this one out) is going to be worth staying up for.

Wawrinka's got a real chance to take out Djokovic, too.  He nearly beat him in Queens.

Li Na coasts into the semis before ESPN2 even comes on the air, she'll face the winner of the Ivanovic match about to start.

Just a shame that both are easy meat for Novak.

Tomorrow should be good. Hoping Federer is confident enough to aim for the lines.

Novak has Wawrinka to deal with first, who took him to 12-10 in the 5th here last year. They also went 5 sets at the US Open last year, Djokovic prevailing 6-4 in the 5th.

Yeah, last year was a spectacular match. I was seriously gripped watching that, but Wawa should have won that in 4. Since then he's come close but Novak on this Plexiglass is otherworldly.

What time is it there, buddy? This is worth staying up for, true, but it must be pretty late there.

I work from home, I keep crazy hours normally, I do this every year.

Couldn't believe Novak gave that break back so quickly, Wawrinka playing some great tennis.

They are just belting bullets at each other, a real heavyweight fight. Berdych is rooting for 20-18… :)

Wawrinka's serve needs to hold up, unlike last year. And he needs to start making inroads in Novak's service games soon because he's more likely to run out of gas.

Serving first is a big advantage for Wawrinka, I think. If he gets a break now, it's over, whereas Novak would still have to serve it out.

The ESPN announcers say that Wawrinka is tightening up in the cool air.

Yeah, you can see him stretching more and more. His legs will go soon, I guess. Needs to end this soon.

On another note, Djokovic isn't close to his 2011 peak right now. That version of him will most likely never come back, part of a natural decline. This version is still pretty good but I keep hearing the commentators saying that Djokovic can return to his peak, which is very unlikely when you see his statistics in general.

Wawrinka has beaten Berdych three in a row and six out of the last seven, although Berdych will be a bit better rested.

Rafa absolutely loves this. He owns everyone else left in the draw. I know Dimitrov gave him some trouble on clay last year but a GS QF is a different beast.

There have been an incredible number of long rallies where Radwanska gets to balls she has no business getting to and wins the point.  By comparison, Azarenka's points have been almost uniformly more boring.

And now Azarenka double faults to give Radwanska another break.  Radwanska is serving for the match at love.

Bageled?  Seriously, Azarenka bageled in the 3rd set of a major?  The mind boggles.

This might be Li Na's tournament.  She always does well at the Aussie, two of her three career finals have come here.

edit: Nadal drops the 1st set?  What the what?

He's not having much trouble so far, kind of coasted through those first two sets. Murray has his work cut out to even get this past two hours, on serve now at 3-2 in the 3rd.

Fed breaks to go up 5-4 and serve for the match, but Murray breaks back (his first of the match?), tied at 5 now.

Roger had his usual great tactics and shot selection, but also some great movement out there, which was unusual.  Looked like his famed backhand accuracy had left him a little bit though.

Meanwhile, Stan Wawrinka and Tomas Berdych would be little more than cannon fodder for Nadal, and possibly for Federer too.  Friday's Nadal-Federer match is likely the 'real' Final.

Also, I hate Stan Wawrinka with a passion.  Watched two of his matches in person at the US Open, and I have never seen a player be more disrespectful, verbally abusive and a general asshat to the umpire, line judges and even his opponent than what I saw there.  Well, maybe in the "non-Benoit Paire" division.  I hope Berdych - who's a great player as long as he's not playing the Big 4 - wins via triple-bagel.

Bouchard did come back into the match late in the first set and into the second, but still didn't have enough.

Sad how badly Radwanska is struggling after how beautifully she played against Azarenka.  This is shaping up to be an easy win for Cibulkova. :(

30 combined Grand Slam titles in the Federer/Nadal matchup tonight, an alltime high, breaking their own previous record of 26 the last time they met (here in 2012).

So, the match "starts" at 5:30am ET, but first point probably won't be until close to 6am, right?  Trying to set my alarm right.

They've had some trouble with the roof for the women's doubles final (live on the Tennis Channel right now), so it might end up pushing back the men's semifinal match.
