Maine was unbeaten in FCS play until New Hampshire pounded them on Saturday. Now they'll almost certainly have to play them again in two weeks.

How quickly things can turn. I was getting ready for a William & Mary home game before they let the Towson game literally slip through their fingers last week. Then they turned in a stinker against Richmond yesterday, and suddenly it's basketball season.

I wonder if they are going to rename the sub-divisions seeing as Football Bowl Subdivision will have an actual real playoff championship next year.

I'd like to see them go back to 1-A and 1-AA

I think UNH has to feel pretty damn good about this draw, considering they started out 1-3.  A home game against a team with a losing record, potentially followed by a game against their biggest rival that they beat by 21 points, 24 hours ago.

Don't have much to contribute but I live with the Fordham football team and the scheduling of this kind of sucks because none of them can go home for Thanksgiving and none of us will be here for the biggest home game of the year. I guess that's the price you pay for missing out on the undefeated season.

UNH up on UMaine, 17-10 in the 2nd in a very entertaining game thus far. Maine running all over the field and UNH throwing all over the field.

Refs just took a game-sealing INT away from Towson, still gonna take a miracle down 21...

The FCS championship is still the only one recognized by the NCAA; the FBS playoff is a third-party event.

Coastal Carolina with Joe Moglia beat Montana (8 seed) in Montana yesterday in -4 to -9 degree temps.  So two playoff wins for Coastal in Moglia's second year.  I saw a TV interview earlier in the week where they were getting ready for the elements.  Now they get to travel to North Dakota State, so the cold gear gets two uses.

NDSU plays in the Fargo Dome.

NDSU-Coastal is the Noon ESPN game on Saturday.

Man, I'm glad this thread got started.  I'm an absolute FCS junkie.  I keep spreadsheets of statistics for every team going back years because it's so hard to locate reliable stats anywhere, so I use the box scores and track them.

Anyway, if anyone can beat NDSU this year, it's Coastal.  Coastal has been putting up ridiculous numbers all year long, and they've been doing it as balanced as you'll see.  Some weeks, you look at their numbers and wonder how the hell they scored 50+ points, but they do it all the time.

My choice this year is Eastern Illinois. Garoppolo is going to finish with over 500 yards passing and 50 touchdowns, and they have stomped on almost everyone in their way.  Their only loss was to a Jordan Lynch lead, nationally ranked FBS, Northern Illinois, by a score of 43-39.  They have two absolute studs at WR in Lora and Drake, and compliment them really well with Lepak and Gober, and they have a stacked backfield, led by Shepard Little, who is only a sophomore, but is also backed up by two pretty good runners in Lera and Duncan.  They just have weapons all over the field.

Seems to me that offense is reigning supreme this year all over the FCS.  Almost every team in the final 16 was an offensive juggernaut, and the scores yesterday were pretty indicative of that.  Fun to watch.

And I apparently jinxed Eastern Illinois, as they went down today to Towson 49-39.  Crazy game though.  Terence West, the Junior RB for Towson, went OFF.  He had 39 carries for 354 yards and 5 tds.  He has 2295 yards rushing on the season now (with potentially 2 games left to play) and the FCS record is 2326 by Jamal Branch of Colgate in '03.

He also broke the season record for touchdowns on the ground, which was 35 in the FCS.  He is now at 38, and has a legit shot of breaking the all divisions, college record of 43 held by Nate Kmic of Mount Union (DIII) in 2008  Kmic did it in 15 games, while West is currently at 14.

And I mentioned he is a junior, and is now making a charge at some pretty lofty career records.  He ran for 29 td's as a freshman too.  After today, he is at 4,640 yards rushing in his career and 81 touchdowns (83 if you include the 2 td receptions he has).  Adrian Peterson (not that one), of Georgia Southern, holds the career FCS record at 84 touchdowns on the ground, which obviously should be broken unless something happens.  Kmic holds the all divisions record of 125, which West could get to if he can get another 6-10 td's in the final two playoff games, assuming Towson keeps winning.  Peterson also holds the FCS record for career rushing yards with 6,559.  Kmic holds that one as well with an absurd 8,074.  Many folks might not know, but Danny Woodhead holds the DII record with 7,962.

On the other side of the ball, EI's wide receiver, Erik Lora had 18 catches today to finish with 123 on the season.  Last year, he set the FCS single season record with 136, which he did in only 12 games.  He played 13 this season.

I love FCS football.

West is a beast. He ran all over us.

NDSU/Coastal is going to be a game of contrasting styles. NDSU has the #1 scoring defense at 11.3 ppg and Coastal scores over 40 ppg(#3 scoring offense). We will see if Bohl leaving has any affect. I think Coastal can stay with them for awhile.

Yeah, we played Coastal last year in playoffs (ODU). They're building a good program down there with good athletes. FCS is a blast, but my school made the jump to CUSA years ahead of schedule because of fears the NCAA was going to put a kibosh on teams jumping. Fun watching the numbers that some of these kids put up. Got too see Heinicke throw for 730 against UNH last year.

And as far as good stats, the NCAA site is actually pretty good.:  http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fcs

Damn, is ESPN3 (which is carrying most of the remaining games today) only on the internet through Comcast?  If not, anyone know what channel it is?  I can't find it online anywhere.

Really impressive beating that NDSU put on Coastal Carolina today.  After that one, I'm not sure anyone has a chance to knock them off.  Awesome program they've built down there.

That Towson RB is a goddamn wrecking ball. Does he have NFL potential? The football players on my floor were in awe.

With a chance to take a 10-point lead in the 2nd, UNH has a 27-yd. FG blocked. 14-7, Wildcats.

A sloppy end to the first half for both teams and UNH takes a 14-7 lead into the half - a rather unexpected low-scoring game thus far.

UNH completely self-destructing. Three consecutive trips inside the opponent's 12 yard line and no points.

EDIT: Now trail by three with five minutes left.

UNH scores a TD with 47 seconds left and hold on to win (extra point was blocked, btw) 20-17. Now, 1-6 in the QF.

The one ranking I saw had him 6th among running backs and around 150th overall, so around a 4th-5th rounder.

He had some issues last season and there were brief rumors of him transferring. I imagine he's going to declare for draft.

What a game from UNH last night. They probably get stomped next week, but they've had a great year nonetheless. It's pretty nuts that its this team who goes the farthest of any UNH team considering all the great teams they had.

It's really crazy when you think about it.  If they had even average defenses for the last 15 years, they could have multiple titles.  This stretch of the last 10 games, especially the last 4 or 5, they have played better D than I can ever remember.

I agree though, they are probably going to get steamrolled next week, but the future is promising with Goldrich at QB

17-7 NDSU.  Defense is hanging as tough as can be expected.  Goldrich is going to have to get the offense going like now, if UNH wants to have any shot at all.

UNH got a pick-6 on the first series of the game and are leading 7-0 in the 1st quarter up in Fargo.

31 unanswered points later, UNH faces an impossible task, down 31-7 at half. UNH outgained 319-61 in the first half. NDSU is ridiculous.

I wish the timing worked better and the FCS champ could get a bowl game slot or something. I'd enjoy that more than a random 6-6 team playing a 7-5 squad.

By my count, Eastern Washington WR, Cooper Kupp finished the season with 93 receptions for 1691 yards and 21 tds.  He's a FRESHMAN.  Obviously a long way to go, but puts him on a pace to absolutely dismantle the record books across all divisions at the WR position.

The aforementioned Terence West of Towson had 27 carries for 115 yards and 2 tds against Eastern Washington.  Going into the title game against NDSU next week, he has an FCS record 2416 records rushing and 40td's.  As for his career, he is now at 4755 yards and 85 touchdowns (83 on the ground).  He needs 2 touchdowns to break the record for most rushing td's in a career, and about 1750 yards.  Again, he's just a junior, so if he stays in college, he should break both (if he doesn't break the td record next week) next year.
