I appreciate that it's a thrill for Tahiti to be here, and I'm all for world tournaments being truly representative, and I'm sure Tahiti's goal against Nigeria was a historical highlight and that guy who scored will never have to buy dinner in Tahiti again, but I wonder if Oceania really belongs here.

Sepp Blatter had a little chatter 4 years ago that Asia would split into West Asia and Pacific (which would include Oceania), but nothing came of it

Most Torres moment ever?
So selfish to not let someone else take the kick. So appropriate that he hit the crossbar. And yet he still gets his fourth.

These goals should count as half goals in the official statistics.

Guarantee he tells Villa the match ball is his because he scored 4.

i thought it was a fun game to watch. Tahiti played hard, had some chances. Could've gotten a penalty at the end with a more lenient ref.

Great moment at the end, spain classy leaving the pitch first.

Ehh, I am a huge supporter of Spain, but the only enjoyment I really got from this mathc was laughing at Fernando Torres. Was it me or was he the only guy in a red kit that was actually running and trying as if he had a chance to actually prove something? The best thing being that despite all his effort he still looked pretty bad (missed pen, poorly hit pass to Villa, some greedy choices, shooting at bad angles).

I'm also really enjoying Palomo/Moreno - yes, they get a little silly at times, and the GOOOOOL sounded a little forced in the Tahiti game, but I am learning things from both of them, and it's just nice to hear two guys who love the sport. As for Darke/Robson, I usually like Robson but he sounds like he agreed to do this at gunpoint - maybe he needs to be at the stadium (or doing Premier League games) to get interested.

I watched some of Spain/Nigeria today.  Nigeria wasn't bad - they had some decent opportunities that they couldn't close.  But Spain was too much for them.   They looked very impressive on attack.

Balotelli out vs Spain with a strained thigh, might make it back for the final or third place game

Also Pirlo may very well miss the match and Abate is done for the tournament. For all of the neutrals out there that is a shame, but with Spain looking rather exposed by Nigeria (Mikel and Musa looked really good) I can not say that I am complaining about Italy's misfortune. I wonder if after this showing Del Bosque is considering reverting back to the double pivot and playing Javi Martinez, or if he will stay course.

Balotelli sent home. Italy is deep and and El Sharaawy is solid, but this is a big blow, especially if Pirlo can't play.

Also didn't know this, but Italy's backup keeper is their only player who doesn't play in Serie A

Is there a better possible goal call than "FRED!"?

Neymar is un-fucking-believable. The performance has exceeded the hype.

Brazil's shoddy defending gifts Cavani & Uruguay a goal.

Cavani's price just went up.

0-0 in regulation in Italy v. Spain.  No goals.  Soccer is so boring.  ;0)

Anyone else having trouble with the feed or is this just another example of why Verizon FIOS is the worst provider in the history of mankind?

That was a really gripping game, with a lot of very exciting offensive chances. Tt's astonishing that none of them scored: Italy hit the frame, Pique put two good chances over, Torres and Iniesta missed good chances, Casillas made some beautiful saves, especially on Christian Maggio's header, as did Buffon, especially against Jesus Navas, etc....

I think the injuries to Soldado and more obviously Balotelli really mattered in terms of whom the chances fell to.

Damn, Spain wins. Brazil-Spain will be a hell of a match.

I love Italia with all my heart, but I knew they wouldn't win the PK battle vs. Spain.  And yes, Spain-Brazil should be epic.  Can't wait for that one.

Uruguay-Italy has been a really entertaining game. Wide open like a friendly, but meaninful enough to have more intensity. No Pierlo, but otherwise this is great. Forlan is having a great tournament, quietly. He is fun to watch.

Also a spectacular save by Buffon, on his back after giving up a rebound straight to Forlan, he flails his foot at the perfect time to save a goal.

Keepers are never as fun to watch as strikers, but this really is one of the most consistently great soccer players in the world. Pleasure to watch, especially in international play. You sort of get the feeling that if this goes to penalties, he may get a chance to shine. At 35, you wonder how much he has left in the tank.

He could be Italy and Juve's number one through Euro 2016 at least, but it also wouldn't be surprising if Brazil 2014 was his swan song.

Couple of lucky bounces and Fred may have handled it when he fell. But goal is a goal.

First one allowed by Spa since Donovan in a major tourney. That's incredible.

So, we have Spain's 29 (?) match winning streak against a Brazilian team that hasn't lost a competitive match at home since the mid-70s?

The intensity to this match is stifling. It feels like something more than a World Cup final. The Brazilian fans and team seem to be playing for a return as the premiere futebol nation.
