In an afternoon tilt, 7-seed TCU had a disastrous game in the field on the way to a 10-3 loss to 3-seed West Virginia. The Frogs tied a school record with 9 (nine) errors. I mean, holy fuck. In order to have a shot at the title, they'll need 2-seed and #12 Oklahoma St to beat the Mountaineers tomorrow, and then beat 6-seed Kansas themselves. Speaking of the Cowboys & Jayhawks, they've played 3 innings and KU has a 1-0 lead.

UPDATE - Do they do that "Rock Chalk Jayhawk" thing at baseball games? Kansas beats OSU 4-3 after scoring a pair in the 7th to take the lead. Tucker Tharp's solo shot tied it, and Mike Suiter later singled home the winner.

The first basemen were the offensive studs. Ryan Lindermuth went 4-for-5 with a 3-run HR, 3 doubles, HBP, 3 R and 6 RBI for W&M.
Lindemuth plays second, but you're right, he was awesome. He also had the game-tying hit in the JMU game.

The 39 runs allowed in two games is just mind-boggling. Unlike in the first game, the defense was a big part of the problem this time (4 errors). Still, this is the team that led the conference in ERA. It's just bizarre to watch.

C-USA (Houston TX) - 2-seed Southern Miss clinched a spot in the title game with a 4-2 win over 6-seed Houston. Even if USM ends up 2-1 in its pool and tied with either the Cougars or 7-seed Tulane, the Golden Eagles hold the head-to-head edge over both teams (FWIW, the Green Wave edged 3-seed East Carolina today 6-5, dropping the Pirates to 0-2 in the same pool). And here's what I hate about pool play. On Saturday they'll have two completely meaningless games, with USM vs ECU and Tulane vs Houston. The only game that matters starts at noon: 1-seed and #19 Rice vs 4-seed Memphis. Both are 2-0 in their pool, so the winner gets USM on Sunday for the championship.

Horizon (Niles OH) - In a 5-team double-elimination field, top seed UW-Milwaukee beat 4-seed Wright St, 6-1. Jake Long worked a gem for the Panthers (9 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 8 Ks). 5-seed Youngstown, which had lost to Wright on Wednesday, was eliminated by 2-seed Illinois-Chicago, 15-5. The Flames, who lost Wednesday to 3-seed Valparaiso, were themselves eliminated by Wright as the Raiders scored runs in the 8th and 9th to win it 5-4. Valpo & UW-M square off Saturday at 11 AM, with Wright getting the loser at 3 pm in an elimination match.

Metro Atlantic (Trenton NJ) - It's a 4-team field, and only 3 remain. 4-seed Siena knocked off 2-seed Marist, 12-5. As the Red Foxes had lost 2-1 to 3-seed Canisius on Thursday, they're now eliminated. Top seed Rider, which beat Siena 7-1 on Thursday, will face the Golden Griffins on Saturday. The Saints will get the loser in an elimination match.

Mountain West (Fresno CA) - 4-seed Fresno eliminated 5-seed Nevada, 10-1. The Bulldogs moved on to face 3-seed San Diego St, who eliminated them 4-0 behind Ryan Doran's complete game (9 IP, 7 H, 0 BB, 7 Ks). In the nightcap, top seed and #28 New Mexico handled 2-seed UNLV, 7-1. Sam Wolff went 6.2 solid innings for the Lobos (1 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 7 Ks), and Hobie McClain closed it out with 2.1 hitless relief innings (3 Ks). The Rebels will square off with the Aztecs in an elimination game at 3 pm local time Saturday, with New Mexico getting the winner at 7 pm for the title match.

Northeast (Lakewood NJ) - 3-seed Monmouth scored a single run in both of their losses (7-1 to 2-seed Sacred Heart on Thursday; 11-1 to top seed Bryant on Friday). But the Hawks are now eliminated, so I won't have to write about their paltry offense anymore. Sacred Heart beat 4-seed Long Island when the Ducks' 4-run rally in the 9th came up a run short in an 8-7 final. LIU had beaten Bryant earlier, so the Ducks & Bulldogs will play Saturday at noon for the right to advance , with the Pioneers waiting in the wings for a 3:30 date.

Ohio Valley (Jackson TN) - ...leaving EKU, 1-seed Tennessee Tech, and 2-seed & #26-ranked Austin Peay to contend for the crown. The unbeaten Golden Eagles and Governors square off tonight at 8 pm.

Peay prevails 6-2, with Casey Delgado getting his 9th win working 6 scoreless innings before tiring and running into a bit of trouble in the 7th (2 ER, one scoring on a ground-out).

That drops TT into an elimination game with 5-seed Eastern Kentucky today at 1pm. The winner meets the Govs for the title at 5 pm.

No Pac 12 tournament, but yesterday's games were noteworthy for what happened to 3 of their 4 ranked teams:

* Washington edged #16 Arizona St, 8-7 in 11 innings on a Joe Meggs walk-off RBI single.

* Stanford beat #11 UCLA 2-1 on yet another Mark Appel gem (8 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 9 Ks) for his 10th win. In the 6th Austin Slater tripled home Justin Ringo (double) with the tying run, and scored the winner on a Brian Ragira sac fly.

* In Corvallis, Washington St knocked off #3 Oregon St 10-9 in 11 innings. Trailing 8-1, the Cougars scored 4 in the 8th before the Beavers answered with a run in the bottom half. WASU then plated 4 more in the 9th to tie it, with Ian Sagdal belting a pinch-hit 2-run single and Jason Monda driving him in on a first-pitch 2-run HR. In the 11th, Monda scored from second with the winner on an infield error.

Only #8 Oregon averted an upset, winning 6-2 at Utah. The losses won't jeopardize any NCAA bids, but they could affect seeding. It also puts the Pac 12 title up for grabs, with the Ducks (44-13, 21-7 conf) now trailing the Beavers (43-6, 22-6) by just a game. The each have 2 games left at Utah & vs WASU respectively.

UVa gets a walk off 3-run HR in the 12th to beat FSU. Although VaTech won the pool, I think this game was for a top 8 national seed and host spot for the super regionals. Way to hang tough, 'Hoos.

Let the party atop Mount Monadnock begin. In the D-II championships at Cary NC, the Ravens of Franklin Pierce shut out Shippensburg 1-0. It was a scoreless game until the 7th. Ship loaded the bases with no out in the 5th but couldn't score. Junior Trevor Graham works a gem for the win. They'll face the winner of Grand Valley (MI) and Minn St-Mankato on Monday at 5 pm.

SEC (Hoover AL) - 2-seed and #2 LSU eliminates 3-seed and #18 Arkansas, 3-1. Five Tiger pitchers -- Hunter Newman (4 IP), Chris Cotton (1), Joey Bourgeois (1), Kevin Berry (1) and Will LaMarche (2) combine for a 1-hitter, as the lone Razorback run was unearned. Christian Ibarra goes 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles while driving in 2 of LSU's 3 runs. They'll await the winner of Vandy-Miss St, which gets going in about 15 minutes.

OU Sooners beat Kansas State, 7-6 in 11 innings. They'll play either Kansas, West Virginia, or TCU tomorrow for the Big 12 Championship. Even though the OU closer blew the save in the 9th, the pitching prior to that was impressive. For too long, the Sooners have been Gray, Overton, and pray for rain. Nice to see Jake Fisher and Kindle Ladd step up to the plate.

In the nightcap, Joe Powell worked 5 solid innings (1 unearned run, 5 H, 1 BB, 4 Ks) while DH Steve Fernandez was 4-for-4 with a HR, 2 R and 2 RBI.

Linfield (OR) creamed Southern Maine in round 2 of the D-III World Series, 10-1. USM had ace Logan Carman on the hill (12-0, 1.62 ERA), but he and his unblemished W-L record were done before the 1st inning even ended: 6 hits and 5 ER with just 2 outs recorded. In relief came Andrew Richards, who pitched 5 innings in yesterday's win and also pitched in both games of last Saturday's regionals. He got out of the 1st on one pitch and worked a scoreless 2nd before yielding to freshman Sean Murphy for the 3rd. He lasted 3 batters (single, FC, RBI double) and LHP Luke Hammond came on to record 2 outs with no further damage.

Hammond didn't record an out in the 4th, loading the bases (walk, single, bunt hit). On came pitcher #5, Ryan Browner, who coaxed a run-scoring DP that made it 7-0 and moved a runner to third. But a 2-run jack by Jake Wyle made it 9-0 before Browner got the next batter to end the inning. In the bottom half, all of USM's offense took place as Forrest Chadwick belted a solo shot.

After a single & fly-out in the top of the 5th, USM went to their 6th arm of the game, Dan Kinnon, who pitched 1.2 scoreless innings. Then came Dylan Morris for a scoreless 7th followed by Nathan Veilleux for a run-free 8th. The Huskies resorted to two position players to pitch the 9th. Chadwick, a center fielder by trade, recorded 2 outs, but not before allowing Linfield's 10th run on 3 singles. Right fielder Troy Thibodeau mercifully got out #3.

Why the detailed diatribe on USM's mound struggles? Because Southern Maine used 10 (ten) pitchers today. And that's a new NCAA Division III record, shattering the old mark of 7. On the other side, Aaron Thomassen went the distance allowing 6 hits & 2 walks while whiffing 9. And because Linfield didn't go to their bullpen, the two teams combined to merely TIE the record for most pitchers used by both teams in a single game. Selfish pricks.

Anyway, USM will have a day to lick their wounds before facing Webster (MO) in an elimination game (1 pm Monday).

The 4-seed picked a great time to go on a run.

After William & Mary eliminated Northeastern this afternoon 12-4, Towson met the Tribe for the title. The Tigers' Mike Volpe went the distance (2 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 6 Ks) while Kurt Wertz (2-for-4, BB, 3 RBI) and Dominic Fratantuono (3-for-4) both homered to carry Towson to a 5-2 win and the CAA crown. With 4 straight wins, they're now over .500 and they'll be in the field of 64 with a 29-28 record.

Man, the risks and costs of aggression just get bigger as the game goes on. With 1 out in the 15th, UNC gets a single and an ROE to put runners at 1st & 2nd. Colin Moran then fliest out to CF, and Chaz Frank tags up and heads for 3rd. He's gunned down 8-5 (Brett Williams to 3B Grant Clyde) for an inning-ending and rally-killing DP.

EDIT - NC State goes down in order. On to the 16th in Durham.

After losing their opener to Radford, Liberty ran the table on their home field in Lynchburg. Today they got a clutch gem from Josh Richardson (8 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K) to beat top seed and #24 Campbell 2-1 for the Big South crown, clinching the auto-bid at 34-27. The Camels seem likely to gain an at-large at 49-10.

Wolfpack gets runners on 1st & 3rd with 2 out in the B-17th after singles by Flincher & Austin. UNC intentionally walks Tarran Senay to load the sacks, but they get Grant Clyde on a foul-out.

On to 18, and the Heels get the first 2 on with a walk & HBP. State brings on Will Gilbert to pitch, their 6th arm of the game. Only 4 more to go to catch Southern Maine.

Finally, a breakthrough. After Landon Lassiter reached 3rd on a Skye Bolt fielder's choice, Cody Stubbs singles him home. Tar Heels lead 2-1. Still just one out, runners on 1st & 2nd.

That's just the 6th UNC hit. They were previously 5-for-58 in the game (.086 BA).

EDIT - Mike Russell with a chopper to Gilbert, and his only play is to 1st. Stubbs & Bolt move to 2nd & 3rd with 2 down.

EDIT - Holberton grounds to 1st to end the threat. Last ups for State in the 18th...

Brett Williams leads off the Wolfpack 18th with a double, then takes 3rd on a wild pitch. Munnelly shitting the bed for the Heels...

EDIT - Bryan Adametz flies to RF, but not deep enough to risk a tag-up.

EDIT - Sam Morgan pops to 2nd. Logan Ratledge (or a wild pitch/passed ball) is the last hope for State.

EDIT - A grounder to 3rd ends it. NC State is eliminated, and the Heels have a little over 11 hours to rest up and get ready for VA Tech and the 1 pm title game.

Vandy & LSU are in extra innings tied 4-4 on ESPN2.

EDIT - LSU takes a 1-run lead with 1 out in the top of the 11th. Chris Sciambra clubbed a pinch-hit liner to RF scoring Jared Foster. It was the first hit yielded by Brian Miller in his 4.1 IP of relief, and the first for LSU since the 4th inning. The crowd in Hoover is about 90% Tiger fans, and their chants have been thunderous.

EDIT - It's all over, as the Tigers take the crown 5-4.

America East (Kingston RI) - 2-seed Binghamton beats top seed Maine 4-0 for the auto-bid, as Jake Lambert stifled the Black Bears (5 H, 1 BB, 7 Ks).

ACC (Durham NC) - As noted above, the top seed and #6 Heels win the crown over 6-seed VA Tech, 4-1. Taylore Cherry scattered 5 H and 2 BB for just 1 ER over 5 IP, and Trevor Kelley followed it up with 4 innings of 1-hit, 2-K shutout baseball. Landon Lassiter went 2-for-3 with 3 runs, while Skye Bolt knocked in a pair.

Atlantic Sun (DeLand FL) - The 4-seed Buccaneers of East Tennessee St knocked off 7-seed Kennesaw St 7-4. ETSU had been lying in wait while the Owls swept a pair from North Florida last night and earlier this afternoon. The title match marked Kennesaw's third game in a 24-hour span. Kerry Doane spun a complete game 4-hitter for the Bucs (1 ER, 3 BB, 3 Ks) and 7 different players scored ETSU's runs in a 14-hit attack.

Big Ten (Minneapolis MN) - Top seed and #15 Indiana earns the auto-bid over 3-seed Nebraska, winning the rematch 4-3 on a walk-off bases-loaded single by Scott Donley. The Hoosiers had led 3-1 before the Huskers tied it with runs in the 7th & 8th. Will Coursen-Carr went the distance for IU (3 ER, 8 H, 3 BB, 3 K).

Big 12 (Oklahoma City OK) - 4-seed and #25 Oklahoma downed 6-seed Kansas for the title, 7-2. Sooner 1B Matt Oberste went 2-for-4 with a walk, SB, 2 R and 4 RBI, striking the big blow with a 2-run jack in the 3rd to put OU up 5-1. Jake Evans won it in relief of Ethan Carnes, who pitched just 2.1 innings despite no apparent signs of trouble (1 ER on 3 H, 1 BB, 1 K; he departed after a lead-off walk & a pop-out). Evans tossed 5 innings (a career high) allowing 1 ER on 4 H, 1 BB, 1 K. Kyle Hayes closed it out with 1.2 shutout innings.

Big East (Clearwater FL) - The two lowest seeds met for the crown, and 8-seed UConn crushed 7-seed Notre Dame, 8-1. Junior LHP Anthony Marzi was brilliant for the Huskies, going the distance on 1 ER, 4 H, 2 BB & 6 Ks. It was 6-0 by the end of the 3rd inning. The top 5 in UConn's order (SS Tom Verdi, CF Billy Ferriter, 2B L.J. Mazzilli, 3B Vinny Siena, and 1B Bobby Melley) were a combined 13-for-23 with 5 R and 5 RBI, with Verdi smacking a double & triple, and Mazzilli launching a 2-run HR in the 1st.

C-USA (Houston TX) - Top seed and #19 Rice need extra innings to dispatch 2-seed Southern Miss for the title, 5-4. After an HBP and a Christian Stringer single, Keenan Cook singled home the winning run for the Owls. Trailing 3-0 after 3, the Golden Eagles took a 4-3 lead in the 6th before Rice tied it in the 7th. Zach Lemond gets the win with 6.1 innings of relief (1 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks).

Horizon (Niles OH) - 3-seed Valparaiso shut out 4-seed Wright St, clinching their 2nd straight auto-bid 3-0. Dalton Lundeen was money for the Crusaders with 8 innings of 2-hit ball (0 BB, 6 Ks), and Karck Kowalczyk pitched a perfect 9th with a K for the save. Chris Manning had the big hit for Valpo with a 2-run double in their 3-run first inning.

MAAC (Trenton NJ) - In their first games of the tournament, 4-seed Siena scored one run while 3-seed Canisius scored two. In their next four games, including today's final, they combined to score a whopping 64 runs. The Golden Griffins of Canisius prevailed in today's slugfest, beating the Saints 12-11 in one of the most anti-climactic plays in baseball: a walk-off bases-loaded HBP with the batter getting drilled in the helmet. Fortunately the batter in question, 2B Jose Torralba, was uninjured and joined his jubilant teammates after Brooklyn Foster scored the game-winner. The Griffs' 13-hit attack was paced by Torralba (3-for-4, triple, walk, HBP, 3 R, 3 RBI), 3B Connor Panas (4-for-5, BB, R, 3 RBI), and RF Ryan Coppinger (2-for-3, 2 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI). Canisius enters the NCAAs at 42-15, a school record for wins.

MAC (Avon OH) - 6-seed Bowling Green takes the title over 4-seed Ball State 7-0, their second straight shut-out with the Falcons having blanked 7-seed Toledo 1-0 in yesterday's rematch to reach the final. Tournament MVP Nick Bruns tossed a complete game 4-hit shutout with a walk and 4 whiffs. CF Patrick Lancaster, 3B Nick Glanzman and SS Brian Bien each had 2 hits, a run and an RBI.

Missouri Valley (Normal IL) - After losing their tournament opener to 7-seed Southern Illinois, the 2-seed Shockers of Wichita St won 5 in a row including last night's title game over top seed Illinois State, 5-2. They got on the board early and never trailed, as Cale Elam scattered 7 hits over 7 innings (2 ER, 0 BB, 7 Ks) and Aaron Labrie closed it out with 2 hitless relief innings (2 BB, 3 Ks). RF Garrett Bayliff went 3-for-4 with a walk, 2 R and an RBI.

Mountain West (Fresno CA) - 3-seed San Diego St won its 4th straight game with a sweep of top seed and #28 New Mexico to win the crown. After holding off the Lobos' late-inning rallies in Saturday's 8-7 victory, it looked like another nail-biter for the Aztecs when UNM scored a pair in the 8th to draw within 5-4. But on Jered Meek's two-out RBI double, SDSU right fielder Danny Sheehan cut down the would-be tying run with a bullet to Jake Romanski at the plate to end the inning. The Aztecs then put up a 4-spot in the top of the 9th to seal the deal with a solo shot by 3B Tyler France (4-for-4, walk, 3 R, 3 RBI), an RBI double by DH Brad Haynal, and a 2-run shot by Romanski (2-for-5, R, 3 RBI).

Northeast (Lakewood NJ) - As Red noted, top-seed Bryant clinches the auto-bid with a pair of wins over 2-seed Sacred Heart. It's been quite a run for the Bulldogs since their opening 7-2 loss to 4-seed Long Island, as they've won 4 straight while outscoring opponents 41-5. Kevin McAvoy went the distance in today's 8-0 shutout (3 H, 2 BB, 2 Ks), while 6 different Bryant batters knocked in runs and 4 had at least a pair of hits.

Ohio Valley (Jackson TN) - 2-seed and #26 Austin Peay beat 5-seed Eastern Kentucky 6-3 for the title on Saturday night. Shortstop Reed Harper had the big blow with a 3-run jack in the first that tied the game. Govs starter Ryan Quick couldn't find the plate and didn't get out of the 4th (3.2 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, 6 BB, 3 Ks), but relievers Lee Ridenhour, Kacy Kemmer and Tyler Rogers combined for 5.1 shutout innings, scattering 3 hits & 3 walks.

Pac 12 (No Tournament) - #3 Oregon St held on for the regular season title and the auto-bid, sweeping its last two against WASU (4-0 and 7-6). #6 Oregon wound up splitting with Utah, winning 6-2 yesterday and losing 10-3 today, so they Ducks finish 2 games back of the Beavers. #16 Arizona St also split their last two, beating Washington 14-4 yesterday and losing 7-2 today. #11 UCLA dropped their second straight to Stanford yesterday 7-3, but they closed things out with a 6-4 win over the Cardinal tonight.

Southern (Greenville SC) - 3-seed Elon wins the title in their next-to-last season as a SoCon member, beating 4-seed Citadel 6-5. It's their 5th straight win since dropping the tourney opener to 6-seed Furman, 10-1.

Southland (Sugar Land TX) - 7-seed Central Arkansas emerges from the loser's backet to top 4-seed SE Louisiana for the crown, 4-0. Connor Gilmore threw a complete game 2-hitter (4 BB, 2 Ks), and the Bears scored 3 in the 3rd on just 1 hit -- and that was a bunt single (BB, PB, HBP, Bunt H, WP, BB, FC 5-2, BB, SF).

Summit (Rochester MI) - Top seed South Dakota St wins the auto-bid with a double-shutout sweep of rival North Dakota St, 2-0 and 1-0. Kolton Emery won the opener (7.2 IP, 7 H, 0 BB, 5 Ks) with an assist from J.D. Moore who whiffed 3 of his 4 batters, and the clincher went to Shane Kraemer (5.1 IP, 5 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks) with relief help from Stephen Bougher (1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 BB) and Layne Somsen (2 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 4 Ks). Not a single walk from the staff over 18 innings. That's how you win ball games.

Sun Belt (Lafayette LA) - 4-seed Florida Atlantic runs the table with 4 straight wins, including the title game over the host and 3-seed Rajun Cajuns 16-8. The Owls took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, and then all but sealed it with a 9-run second inning. DH Tyler Rocklein went 2-for-4 with 2 R and 4 RBI to pace a 16-hit FAU offense.

WAC (Grand Prairie TX) - 4-seed UTSA goes 4-for-4 in tourney games, capping it with an 11-4 championship win over 7-seed Dallas Baptist. The Patriots led 2-0 into the bottom of the 5th, when the Roadrunners began unleashing their offensive fury. 2 runs each in the 5th, 6th & 7th, followed by a 5-spot in the 8th. Catcher John Bormann led the attack going 3-for-5 with 2 R and 2 RBI. Brock Hartson gets his 9th win of the year (7.1 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 H, 2 B, 2 Ks).

West Coast (Stockton CA) - 2-seed San Diego wins the Saturday rematch with 4-seed San Francisco, 2-0, and takes home the WCC auto-bid. It was a vastly different game than the Dons' 10-8 win over the Torreros on Friday. Freshman southpaw Troy Conyers was huge, bringing a 3-hit shutout with 9 Ks to the party. And I do mean "party" -- check out the USD jerseys:

Biggest surprises to me:

* Bryant as a 3-seed out of the NEC? And behind Wichita State in the same regional? Wow.
* Towson as a 3-seed with an 89 RPI? Double Wow.
* William & Mary getting an at-large bid over the likes of Ohio St (2nd in the Big Ten, played a ridiculous OOC schedule)? Pass the pipe, dude.
* Coastal Carolina (37-21, 18-6 conf) getting an at-large out of the Big South as the South division winner doesn't shock me. But Campbell (49-10, 19-5 conf) getting stiffed as the North division winner from the same conference is a real head-scratcher.

Ohio St's RPI was 63 and SOS was 77 and was 2-8 in last 10.

W&M was 44 and 76.

And yeah, RPI isn't infallible obviously, but there's an argument there.

Texas A&M a 2 seed and Campbell not in are the 2 biggest gaffes for me Dog. Also, check out @CSFBaseball on Twitter. They are lighting up the NCAA committee.

Yeah, I neglected to add A&M to my list of gripes, mainly because I didn't even notice they'd been seeded at all. They're 10-22 vs the Top 100.

Then there's this:

Committee politics certainly seemed to rear their ugly heads this year. Remember that A&M's AD is on the committee; Aggies get a 2 seed.

I also saw that Mercer -- which had a convincing resume to be a 2 seed -- was the last at-large team selected. Wow.

Campbell coach Greg Goff on the snub: "It's the most devastating news I've ever experienced in college baseball."

Sounds about right.

MYRTLE BEACH!!!!
I don't feel bad for Campbell. They are 45 minutes south of Raleigh and have Duke, UNC, NCState within easy driving distance for midweek games and they play Duke twice and NCState once.  They should be making that drive every Tuesday and playing those teams in rotation all year.  They did manage to sprinkle in East Carolina, but playing NC Central twice and NC A&T twice as OOC opponents killed them.

You've got legitimate programs withing easy drives and for whatever reason you don't play them.  NCState, UNC, Wake, etc.

Coastal Carolina and UNC had games on the opening week against separate opponents bagged due to whether and Gilmore picked up the phone, scheduled, and drove to UNC for a Tuesday game on one day notice.  Top teams are looking for games mid week and are always looking for teams nearby to come to their place.  Campbell had a good year, no doubt, but the blueprint has been out there for a while.  Play someone, especially when its so friggin easy to do.

This isn't football, folks are looking for games every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Horseshit. It takes two to tango, and many of the power programs are highly selective by design when it comes to the mid-majors they schedule. You're talking as if Campbell can just force these teams to play them, or like the mega-powers are leaving unanswered voice mails for the Camels' AD trying to schedule them.

Any solid mid-major program that's deemed a threat to a major has a bitch of a time getting that major to play them. It's deemed too risky for the big dogs. They have too much to lose, especially when it's a program in their back yard that could gain a recruiting and/or marketing edge on them.

It's a postulate that gets proven year after year in NCAA football and basketball. College baseball is no different.
