Just out of curiosity, what do you have against Boeheim? I've always kind of liked the guy.mabrowndog said:That is one of the worst calls I've ever seen. And Boeheim gets a double T and an ejection.
I'm not an Orange fan and have no love lost for Boeheim, but this is fucking criminal.
A total breakdown in discipline by the official. Cuse should have been shooting a free throw for the lead.

Watch it again. His body leaned into Fair even if his feet were set. But what makes it so brutal is that a short while earlier, Parker drove to the basket and absolutely clearly plowed an SU defender over, but they called a block there. And in between, Grant and Christmas both get hammered on baskets and no call on either. Pretty much every big call down the stretch (with one exception...the Cooney stumble no call) went for Duke.Dr. Gonzo said:Feet were set, it's a charge. How is it a bad call?

It's nothing personal. I've just never been a fan of his strategy and game management.
mabrowndog said:So far tonight Cuse has missed a gimme layup, a driving dunk from the wing, and failed to execute a basic box-out on Plumlee who came into the lane uncontested for a rebound and slam. Despite those gaffes, they're up 7.
EDIT - And they miss yet another layup. Jesus, Grant, you need to finish the easy shit. And now he misses both FTs.
I just think it was close enough that it could've went either way. Not surprised it went for the home team. It's like hearing Duke fans complain when 3/5 of their starters were in foul trouble for the game at the Carrier Dome. I'm just not surprised that the home team will have a small built in advantage with the refs.ivanvamp said:Watch it again. His body leaned into Fair even if his feet were set. Not to excuse the horrible charge call (or the numerous blocks called on Cuse), but the above is the real reason they lost. You can't make a cavalcade of unforced errors early. That's 8 points right there, possibly 9 if Grant converts the 3-pt play.
I realize that Grant was fighting a back injury, but there were plenty of other cases of blown easy shots and critical defensive breakdowns on basic fundamentals.

And that's exactly what Boeheim said in his press conference afterward. He said it got called against Gbinije Earlier. And if you watch the replay, after he's done saying "Bullshit" over and over he starts telling the refs "That's the new rule! That's the new rule!"RedOctober3829 said:It was a horrible call. I think that is why Boeheim lost his shit - that call has been a blocking foul all year under the new rules.RedOctober3829 said:It was a horrible call. That was a questionable call, but at least the ref swallowed his whistle at the Dome. Plus, the call on Fair: 1) took 2 pts off the board; and 2) is not what the new rules say. A no call gives Duke the ball w/ 10 sec to go.tims4wins said:Guys, do you not remember the questionable no-call on the Hood missed dunk at the end of the first game? I have no idea if the refs made the right call on that, or tonight. But you have to admit it evened out, right?
So you decided not to watch the second half?tims4wins said:My larger point is that I think the two teams are even and that a split was probably deserved. Will probably play again for ACC title on neutral ground.

Yeah I think Cuse will win in C-villeGreg29fan said:
I would say you're much more like to play in the semi-finals given the way it shapes up now. UVA is probably going to win the league unless Syracuse can go into Charlottesville and win. Syracuse or Duke will be the 2 or the 3 and probably UNC the 4 unless they lose 2x down the stretch and Pitt wins out, leap frogging them in the process.

(Whoops, thought this was the 15-501 thread.)
nope. Did you see the 3 pt play Parker had prior? Have you been following the rule changes this year?tims4wins said:Guys, do you not remember the questionable no-call on the Hood missed dunk at the end of the first game? even??? give us a call when we get to 5 lossestims4wins said:My larger point is that I think the two teams are even and that a split was probably deserved. Will probably play again for ACC title on neutral ground.
A better screen shot would clearly show his heels off the line. I noticed it live as well and checked a couple of replays.minischwab said:Somehow everyone missed that before the charge, Fair caught ball and was standing on the sidelines. I missed it live too, and with the block/charge call and Jimmy B reaction I get why the broadcast never went back to it. But the call wouldn't have even happened if the refs didn't miss an easy call.

I went to the NCAA opening rounds at Greensboro back in 2009 and I can tell you playing there is a solid home court advantage for UNC, less so for Duke. Almost all the Duke and Carolina fans hung around to cheer against each other, but the Carolina fans were definitely in the majority.mabrowndog said:If Greensboro is ever considered "neutral ground" for Duke against any school from north of the Mason-Dixon line, that'll be a first.

I can assure you that when they finally move this back woods conference tourney up to the big time (MSG) that it will not be a home court advantage for Duke, especially against Cuse.tims4wins said:Eh it is not really a home court advantage due to all of the UNC, State, and Wake fans who will root against Duke. No where Duke goes is an advantage, aside from MSG. Just my opinion.

Surprised more people aren't talking in this thread about the crappy play from our starting backcourt. That's why we lost, guys.
Trevor Cooney is the 2nd leading scorer on the #1 team as a Soph. He avgs 41% from 3pt line and 88% from FT line. He is 2nd in ACC in steals. He is 6'4", pretty strong, needs to develop a MUCH better handle, but isn't some un-athletic white kid that can only spot up and shoot. And his improvement from last year to this year has been HUGE. He could become the #1 scoring option for Cuse next season.BigSoxFan said:Agree on #1 and need clarification on #2. You at one time thought Cooney had a shot at the NBA?
