You know you're excited.

  • Adams passed the math test and is now practicing with Oregon
  • Ohio State has at least twice as many QB options as Rev has working knees
  • The SEC is the SEC according to ESPN!!!
  • Year 2 of the playoff and conferences already promoting themselves
So how does this play out? The only known is I'm getting super drunk at the ASU vs Texas A&M opener at Texans stadium, but I still have questions

  • Is tOSU the favorite?
  • Will coaches try to run up the score as possible based on last year's play-off selection?
  • Oregon -> Vernon Adams -> just started practicing -> he got this?
  • HARBAUGH!!!!!!!
We can also discuss how astute Mascho was in identifying a breakout running back last year, because both those people are awesome.

Preview season is upon us at ITP. Mark Schofield starts with the Ohio State-Virginia Tech matchup, in two parts:

How VT slowed down the OSU offense last season: http://insidethepylon.com/pylon-u/teams-ncaa/division-ia-fbs/acc/virginia-tech-hokies/2015/08/04/ncaa-film-preview-week-1/
What to look for in the rematch: http://insidethepylon.com/film-study/film-study-u/offense-film-study-u/2015/08/14/ncaa-film-preview-ohio-state-and-virginia-tech/

And the mighty Bison of North Dakota State taking on Montana in a matchup of top 10 FCS powers: http://insidethepylon.com/film-study/film-study-u/offense-film-study-u/2015/08/14/ncaa-film-preview-ndsu-and-montana/

Schofield says Adams GOT this. And it's pretty damned convincing argument: video of Mariota being awesome. video of Adams running the exact same play successfully last season at Eastern Washington.

There's more on the comparison between those two on Monday.

Mark also finished his preview of NDSU-Montana, looking at the Montana offense.

As promised, Part 2 of Vernon Adams and Marcus Mariota looks at the very similar traits shared by the Heisman winner and FCS transfer, noting that the major difference is in height, while the athletic ability and competitive toughness shine through on tape for both QBs.

Just a heads-up, I'm gonna be a guest in Matt Waldman's film room tonight. We're gonna talk about North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz. Because, there's an actual real football game tomorrow. http://mattwaldmanrsp.com/rsp-film-room/ has details. You can find the video there or on his YouTube channel. You can mock my still-present Boston accent in here if you'd like.

This will the first time I'll have a chance to watch Bob Stitt's offense on television. Coaching a Division II school has given Stitt an almost mythical internet presence; I've read so much about him, but have never seen one of teams play. I'm excited to see what he'll do now that he's been given the reigns of a FCS powerhouse.

North Dakota State, of course, has been an FCS dynasty. I really wish they had scheduled an FBS team.

None this year.  Next year they play Iowa and they have a 2020 game scheduled with Oregon.

astride the divide
Quite a game. Griz went 80 yards in about 1:40, scored with two seconds left. 38-35. This after kicking a FG with three minutes left to still be down 4, which was a puzzling (to me anyway) decision. Terrific win for Montana, this game has been circled on the calendar for a long, long time up here.

I was in Butte last night and there were lots of NDSU fans around. Guessing they couldn't get rooms in Missoula--in addition to the game there's a big music festival downtown this weekend. That town is gonna be nuts tonight.

Jeez Hambone I don't care about ASU one way or the other but I have to watched that 10 times back to back this afternoon.
