I'm not sure you could convince me that there is a player in the NHL more important to his team than Bergeron is to the Bruins.

I know I'm repetitive on this, but man, he is so, so, so fucking good.

I still think that Sweeney should've drafted Barzal but I can tell why he didn't. Everything is on the perimeter. He's like Spooner with better skills. I doubt he'd be a good number 2 center in the playoffs.

He is a top 5-10 player in the league. An absolute monster.

Habs get run out of the Bell Centre, 6-2 to the Oilers. B’s have a 2 point lead on the final Atlantic spot with 4 games in hand. Good times.

Gotta give Sweeney credit, this team is going to have a lot of young depth moving forward. Hopefully they can add a few pieces before Bergeron starts to slow down, though he looks as good as ever right now and hopefully his game will age well.

I mean, who do you trade him straight up for? For this season only? Sid? McJesus? He put JT in his pocket last night. Tampa’s guys did shit against him.

One of the best defensive forwards ever, wins all his face offs, always plays the other team’s top line, QBs the PP.

For one season, McDavid and Crosby. Otherwise, there aren't really any players that bring enough value. Last season, Bergeron's relative Corsi % was more than a point higher (9.7 v. 8.5) than the next person (35 games played min).

And that person was Brad Marchand. Marchand's terrific, but does anyone believe that his game is not significantly impacted by playing with Bergeron?

If my math is right, I think that 8.5 to 9.7 gap translates to something like a 15% shot difference for the Bs when Bergeron is on the ice relative to his teammates.

Kucherov could be close. He’s the only player outside of 97 and 87 that may be in the ballpark.

Hard to get a read on how much Bergeron impacts Marchand or vise versa because there isn’t a big enough of a sample of the two playing apart from each other. They have basically been joined at the hip since 10/11 when the Marchand - Bergeron - Recchi line was formed.

Barkov is someone else who is sneaking into the elite conversation. They talked about him on the PDO cast in their episode about top centers recently. He's putting up dominant possession numbers on a bad team, leading NHL forwards in TOI, and scoring a point per game. I don't think he's on Bergeron's level yet, but I think he's the next dominant two-way forward who should win a bunch of Selkes if he can stay healthy.

It's also tough to compare the value of forwards and defenseman. Karlsson and Hedman might be in the conversation too.
