This team can fuck around for half a game then put the clamps down when it counts

Reminiscent of the big three era

My prediction to myself came true(maybe mentioned here), they are far better but not as fun to watch as the scrappy dogs of yore.

Last year I felt like I needed a cigarette to watch the games in the 4th quarter and the playoffs almost put me in a coma. Now it’s like watching the Globetrotters vs the Generals, it’s awesome but it doesn’t give me that same dopamine hit.

Brad does not coach to blowouts. If the lead gets to 10 points or more he goes deeper and deeper into the bench until it's a close game. That way the starters get rest and the reserves get playing time. No need to be nervous about being behind 10 points or so -- Kyrie can score at will in the 4th quarter as long as he's rested.

I said something like that a month ago, and people thought I was crazy. Tonight I was smug - the score didn't matter, of course the Celtics would win.

It’s pretty cool that the Celtics are good enough to have a discernible rhythm to their games.

This game thread is really a wonderful read.

I feel the exact opposite. Last year felt like the Antoine/pierce years.. you knew they’d always have a chance in the regular season and that it would often be frustrating..but that the also had no chance of winning a championship.

Last year one guy had to take over every game because he was more or less the only one who could score with consistency. This led to long stretches of horrible basketball ..at least offensively.

This year any number of players can step up any given night. They’re much deeper and flow is often beautiful to watch.. although the second unit still struggles.

This team is so much more fun just to see Al and Kyrie playing together as though they always have.. the development of the young guns and the idea that they’re doing this with one of their best players is out hurt. Give me this year’s team any day.

I think part of the Cs second half success is that they are so active on offense and defense that they wear teams down.

It helps that no one is playing huge minutes.

This is where the "why is Kyrie still on the bench????!?!?!??!?!!" crew needs to trust the process. Brad is clearly playing the long game and seems to have an idea of what he's doing.

This! You are exactly right. Brad coaches to keep it close while resting his strongest team and then playing them when needed to put a game away. With a very busy January ahead Horford and Kyrie lead the Celts with 32 & 31 minutes per game. Those are fantastically low minute totals for the leaders of a 22-4 team.
