I have 2 trays of funeral potatoes in my fridge. The name is an anachronism to when the base ingredients were a lot harder to find, and would only generally be prepared for mass-gatherings, like funerals.

5 ingredients: hash browns, sour cream, cream of chicken soup, cheddar cheese, and onions. About a billion calories a serving and soooooo good.

Funny, in our family we call them church potatoes because they were always made for church pot luck dinners. And yes, they are all kinds of awesome.
Pro tip: double the amount of corn flake topping the recipe calls for

Rangers are having a weird year. 2nd best record in the conference, but they are the 2nd worst possession team in hockey with an abysmal 45.6% CF at even strength. Despite rarely having the puck, they have an absurd +32 goal differential (52-19). Their PDO is 107.4(!!).

Lundqvist is good enough to support mediocre possession numbers, and some of the possession is score effects, so it's not like they're a Calgary Flames type team living off smoke and mirrors, but the Rangers should be headed for some sort of a regression. .962 ES save percentage and 11% shooting percentages can't be sustainable. Here's to some regression today.

I still have so much food and wine, so between that and this afternoon's game I should have enough to keep me occupied while I avoid the public spectacle of idiots trying to save a buck today. Also have whiskey and a four pack of Boom Sauce, so I'm sufficiently stocked.

Frankie getting a look-see on the Bergy line. Jimmy demoted.

Both are probably deserving of that move. Be interesting to see how Vatrano responds to a top D pair.

So this is gonna be one of those Lundqvist games, isn't it.

This is true for basically every goalie ever, but you have to go high on Lundqvist. He smothers the bottom half of the net. Loui didn't have enough space and leverage to get the puck up underneath the bar.

Great play Marchand!!!

Honestly, is that a penalty? Marchand was outside the crease? He just staked across not like took his stick and lifted.

What's the call on that? It seems like it should be illegal but at the same time Marchand never came close to going into the crease. How much space does Lundqvist get?

I dunno. He has as much a right to skate through that area... At some point the goalie has to be responsible for his own stick as well. Tough to say how that'd have gotten called.

Besides just the goal, the Bergy-Marchand-Vatrano line has had a couple great attempts, the early returns have been very good.

Outstanding period for Bergeron and Marchand. They were everywhere, in a good way.

ANOTHER great opportunity with Vatrano camped out in the middle... Wow how did Lundqvist stop that...

At best it may have been blown off as incidental contact right, not a penalty on Marchand.

Entertaining period. Lundqvist is really good. Tuukka playing well, too. Should be a fun game the rest of the way.

The Bruins challenged a goal in the San Jose game (I think) where Rask's stick got chopped and he was unable to extend it in an effort to make a save. The goal was confirmed. Similar situation here. Marchand was outside the crease and made incidental (I guess because he's Marchand people will be skeptical) contact with the stick. No reason why it shouldn't count.

I fear the coach's challenge is going to become like the old toe in the crease rule from the late 90's where everything was being sent upstairs to make sure nobody's toe (fucking Tim Taylor) was in the crease when a goal was scored. The idea of reviewing goals for interference was needed, but they still need to flesh out a more comprehensive rule about what constitutes goalie interference.

This is the key. The spirit of the rule is so goalies aren't getting tackled and picked out of being able to make a play, but an instance like this where contacting the stick may be viewed as interference is a bridge too far. I know generally a stick is viewed as an extension of the player, but at some point the goalie has to be responsible for where his stick is as well. Otherwise what is to stop a goalie from tripping skaters who are skating through or camped out for screens and tips under the guise of "incidental contact"?

I still don't know how this team has put together such a successful PP but I like it so so much.

Nice interview about the first goal - besides all the hemming and hawing by the broadcast crew, Vignault admits he talked to the refs and the goal would have counted.

Nice cross check to the ribs then body slam on Marchand there.
