Fully expect Boone to over-react now and over manage tonight, but it's really simple: we either hit good pitching tonight or the season is over.

I’m looking forward to tonight. Last night was a shitty game but CC won’t let that happen again.

Remember what happened after the Yankees put a similar beat down against Boston on the road in the 04 ALCS?

History has a funny way of repeating itself.

Yeah, this is irrelevant either way, 14 years ago and zero overlap of personnel. If your point is that sometimes teams win games after being demolished, that is certainly true, although more often than not they just lose again (not going to find the numbers from Twitter, sorry).

NY has played all season long like they're not as hungry as BOS, we talked about it here a few months ago. I still have not seen even a single highlight/lowlight from last night, but Boone has made it obvious all season long that he is undeserving of such a premium job as he has zero sense of the game as it develops. I was ready to suffer through a learning curve from a rookie manager, but Boone is not getting better, and he shows no signs of actually learning/developing. If last night translates into Boone being fired this winter, that is a net win in my book (especially since I continue to think HOU is going to win the ALCS either way, although it would be a lot nicer to play them than not play them obviously).

    Anyway, my two cents.

I think if we learned anything last night, it's that Boone and NY are helpless without my concurrent game thread input. I'm expecting a job offer from Cashman any day now. :)

He could certainly pick up some tips on bullpen management around here.

Hicks is back, McCutchen sits in favor of Gardner. Also Andujar sits in favor of Walker with CC on the mound and all the weak contact he induces to the left side.

    Hicks CF
    Judge RF
    Gregorius SS
    Stanton DH
    Voit 1B
    Walker 3B
    Sanchez C
    Torres 2B
    Gardner LF

I moved to Maine this morning to change the karma for two days. Then I have to go back to Rogues Island.

Whatever the actual stats in this playoff, it's all too small a sample and I think Brett is in there because it's quite possible this is his last game in pinstripes... I expect the crowd will react accordingly,

He’s also a better defender than McCutchen, CC forces a lot of weak contact to the left side so I’m guessing that’s the major reason for going with the better left side defenders to open the game. When CC is out, they can bring those guys in.

I'm sure this is answered multiple times in the BOS thread, but why is Vazquez in over Leon when Porcello pitched almost exclusively to Leon all year? This will be the first time Porcello pitches to Vazquez all year, a little strange.

"Boone said he could have Betances, Robertson, Britton and Chapman for 2 innings each tonight. He sees Happ as an extra-innings option."

I think it's strictly for the "offense," and I imagine Porcello signed off on it. Cora made a comment before yesterday's game that Vazquez puts the ball in play, which he then did last night. Leon has never been much of a hitter, but his OPS post-ASB is .331. Yes, that's OPS. And 33 strikeouts in 116 at bats. He's simply non-competitive at the plate and tonight is probably going to be a higher scoring game.

My feeling has been that he'd like one time through the lineup from CC, and then the big 4 take it from there.

I bet CC is on a VERY short leash. Like one run scored. Or two base runners in the same inning.

What do people think of the strategy suggested in the other game thread about laying down some bunts against CC? Will it work?

No one ever actually tries this more than maybe once in an entire game, so hard to say. If my team scored 16 runs the night before though, pretty sure I wouldn’t want them bunting (and I am generally more pro-bunting than most).

Bucky Dent throwing out the first pitch just seems like it's trying too hard. Mookie Wilson would have been funnier (and that was a penultimate series game with BOS up 1 also).

Anyone else expecting a Yankee blowout? That’s how the season series has gone. I’m gonna say 10-4 Yankees. Walker has a good game.

NESN showing clips of Porcello striking out Bird and Romine in August. I wish that was the lineup (bet so does Rick).

That first inning was not encouraging; however, the balls weren't as hard hit as Severino yesterday.

    Damn on that Hicks out.

Last night you could sort of tell with Severino after the first. Here it's more like eh that's CC. Little bad luck with the jdm hit otherwise no biggie.

Taking pitches is acceptable. Porcello is not good.

edit: first pitch swinging. That's what I"m talking about!
